I have been shopping around for the press for quite some time. I recently purchased this one from Sears and am very satisfied.Pros:1) I spent probably 1.5 - 2 hours in assembly. The manual is well written and easy to follow.2) I was able to assemble to entire machine by myself. The power head is heavy, but can be done alone if properly planned for.3) The machine has plenty of power, and spot on once the laser is set up.4) Well packaged and had no broken or missing parts,5) Good power and easy to adjust belts for speed control.6) Easy to use chuck7) Heavy enough to stay put, but can still be moved around the shop.8) QuiteCons:1) The belt cover could have a nicer fit. I had to bend the latch slightly to get it to close. Minor thing.2) Laser takes a little time to set up, but works well once done. No 9v battery included, so you will have to purchase seperately to get the laser up and running.3) Would like to have seen the light power cord integrated into the press electrical system so that it would eliminate one cord. As it is, you have one cord for the press motor and one cord for the light. This is a convenience problem and my one major knock.I would recommend this drill press to anyone. Great price, even when not on sale.
The chuck will not hold large bites (forstner) tight enough to keep them from spinning. Makes it useless for drilling large holes.
Extremely easy to setup and use. Have already got my money worth.
after some assembly, this drill press works so good, i should have bought one sooner.
found that it was the most powedr for your money
I needed a dress that would be mounted next to the wall and dependable and this drill fill the bill.
I have had this tool for some time and really am pleased with it. I have a motrise attachment and it functions quite well. Easy set up for any type drill bit--regular, brad point, forstner, or spade. Heighth adjustment is easy and can be locked in with ease. Table heighth adjustment also easily done.
idle pulley machined too small so the pulley is lopsided. sears would only give me the option to return to store even though i drove an hour to get it no option to get it repaired i would just have to try my luck with another
This drill press is a great adition to my shop and I really like it, but it still has its cons like everything does.
Pros: It has a serpentine multi-rib belt which is way better than the competitions V-belt, plenty of power, nice paint and finish, the lasers work great, the motor is smooth and quiet, it has a key that you can remove to disable the machine, the table can be tilted and it has a degree sticker to show you the # of degrees you tilted it, the handles can be placed on either side, the chuck is really easy to use and you don't have to worry about losing any key for it, and the belt tension is very easy to adjust
Cons: The bolt that clamps the table to the main pipe is riveted together so it can swing, but the rivet is loose. The table crank handle is plastic along with the belt cover. The light it comes with has a springy cord type holder where you are supposed to be able to place it where you need it, but it droops down becaused it cannot support itself properly. But it still works fine as long as you put the light above where you actually need it so it will droop down where you want the light. Also, the light cord is seperate from the drill press motor cord, making it a hassle to have two electric plug receptacles to power the machine. Then, it has a weak plastic screw thing to hold the quill that doesn't feel like it will last very long or hold the quill very tight. Finally, the "hood" or belt cover has a cheesy latch and it took me a long time to finally get it adjusted right so it would close and it still does not close all of the way.
By the way, the lasers take a long time to adjust, but if you take your time and read the instructions, you will really enjoy them in the end.

The quill is solid No play. There is a slot in the quill for fast and easy removal or the arbor and chuck. Table movement works very smooth. Hood opens up easy and, also easy to set belts. The light is ok but I can see it might be in the way from time to time. The laser is a joke works well until you lower the table or raise it. It only takes about 30 seconds to adjust it if you needed it.I will add that is was well packaged...Cons:Key~~less chuck is junk...it is very sloppy it does not tighten up enough for Forster bits. Even had some slip-age with some twist bits. Called customer support and I have a keyed chuck hoping it's a Jacobs chuck coming should solve my chuck issue.Table is the smallest I've seen on a floor model press. Which is not a big issue since I plan to make a table for it.This press has moderate vibration no matter what speed you have it set for.Over all I rate this to be above average.~~~~~~ 3.5Only difference between this press and Ridgid 15" press smaller table size and this press has some vibration. You can visit my blog @ lumberjocks.com/kkickback
Received the tool in 4 days. The packing was good and delivery was great. Instructions and assembly were very good. The unit was missing the feed handles, so I called the 800 number and the missing parts were delivered 2 days later. The price was excellent and have been 5 stars if all the parts had been included.
i just got this new drill press i was at a garage sale and the guy was moving and scaling down all his tools i set it up in my work shop and its the greatest drill press in the world to me the drill press will be helping me to really build some great thing in the future i have some bits for it already and i will be getting more
Excellent drill press for wood working. keyless chuck is easy to use
decent drill press, but quality is terrible, laser devise snapped in half second time i used it--got NO satisfaction from Sears, changing speeds can be a pain too, but then i guess i got what i paid for-next time i'll go with Delta or a name brand.
Very good piece of equipment, however it arrived with a broken belt guard cover. Too much of a pain to try and deal with to replace.

Overall, it will be a welcome addition to the shop. I have not used it enough yet to rate the assemblies durability.Pros:1) Assembly was easy and took me less than an hour to do by myself.2) Heft and build quality of the components is impressive. Much better than some other brands.3) The press started right up and works well.Possible Improvements:1) There is a large bolt that needs to be loosened to allow you tilt the table. This is difficult to get to and required a number of trips to the garage to find a tool that would fit. I ended up finding a 15/16 socket with a breaker bar, since neither a wrench nor a normal rachet was able to fit. I am going to try to come up with an easier tool-less bolt to replace it (such as the fasteners used to hold the table height and tilting adjustments in place).2) During assembly, the corners of heads of the bolts that hold the column to the base interfered slightly with the column casting. Though the bolts were able to be assembled, they wore some of the paint off of the casting in the process.3) It may be nice to have the lamp plug into the drill press itself or be hard wired in, so that there is only one cord to plug in. However, this is very minor, and the way they did it allows a user to remove the lamp entirely.4) The belt cover does not fit very snugly.

What a great machine! Looked at the home improvement stores drill presses and just couldnt bring myself to buy anything but another Craftsman tool. Cant wait to start collecting accessories!!!!!!
I've been shopping for a drill press and found this one. I am very pleased with the ease of operation. The set up was a little difficult as the first Laser didn't work but a quick trip to the store and it's working. The laser isn't all that important but comes in handy now and then.THe features are easy to use for even a novice.
This was set up in my garage in about an hour. It was very simple to set up and so far it works very smoothly. I actually enjoyed doing the very first trial on a piece of scrapwood. As for durability, I can't comment on that yet.
