Sliding mitre saw

This is a terrific value for the money. It performs as well if not better than other brands costing up to twice as much. It is easy to use and has safety first features. Do not see why anybody would want a non-sliding mitre saw (that most others sell for about same as this) when they can have this one.

OK saw, cheap plastic

The saw is ok - cuts are straight and miters are fairly tight. The laser is difficult to see when using outdoors, even in the shade. My biggest gripe is the sorry plastic "handle" on this saw. After finishing a job the other day, I picked up the saw by the "handle" which pulled apart from where it is attached to the motor housing. Half the screws stripped out of the motor housing and the other half broke through the upper handle's plastic. I have been trying to get replacement parts through parts direct, but the motor handles are backordered for a month! I imagine they replace a lot of these handles. If you buy one of these saws, be sure and not use the handles as handles. Pick up the saw from under the base.

Very Good Value for the Money

I bought this to replace an older miter saw. This has the advantage of being able to cut relatively wide boards. I found the saw to be pretty accurate and straight cutting right out of the box. I was pleased with the quality of the 60 tooth carbide blade and the smoothness of the cut. I read feedback from people saying that the saw did not eject sawdust very well into the sawdust bag. If you remove the bag and look into the sawdust outlet port on top (with the power off, of course) I saw that the casting of the blade guard in that area internal to the saw where the sawdust has to pass had metal ribs that stuck out into the discharge area and significant amounts of waste metal flashing from the casting process. I assume the protruding ribs inside the sawdust discharge port are some sort of safety arrangement. You can knock out the excess flashing with a screwdriver. Clearing the sawdust discharge path greatly improves the ability of the dust collection to work without clogging.

Very nice machine

A clean and simple design that's worked exceptionally well on the few test cuts I've done so far. Needed hardly any setup and cut square and true right out of the box. And the laser was on the money. The sawdust collector, as others have noted, is virtually worthless. And you have to move the fence forward when cutting a rabbet. But, for the money, this is a great tool and worthy of the Craftsman name. Will be getting a workout soon as I help replace a friend's deck railings. If it lets me down, we'll let you know.

Not Cutting Straight

This is a very good product for the amount of money but I cannot get this saw to cut square. The problem is with the blade, it cuts okay once if the board is within 3 inches. Anything wider, one end is way off. I try replacing the blade and now looking to see if I can adjust the fence.

Will not saw square cuts

I bought the saw. On one side you get a square cut. From the other side, would not saw square cut. Fence molded crooked. Took saw back to Sears and they were nice to get me another one. Same problem with the other new saw. I had to attach shimmed boards to the fence and I finally got the saw to saw a square cut from both sides. This was a lot of trouble and time to spend on a new saw. I guess the saw would be OK for rough cuts where squareness was not an issue. Not recommended for a woodworking shop.

Could be a lot better.

I had a hard time adjusting it. The "positive stops" are not very positive. The mitre handle moves about 3 degrees back and forth without locking it down, tightening the handle slightly makes it move about half a degree and tightening it firmly moves the adjustment another 2 degrees. I've been doing ok with giving the mitre handle moderate tightness and watching the indicator but it seems like I shouldn't have to do that for the price. I've seen cheaper saws that are much better in that regard but they didn't have the laser or the sliding feature.

Very good saw...

The only issue is the laser getting obscured with sawdust very easily. Don't see anyway around this, just the nature of the beast.

Great saw for the $$$$$

This is my second Craftsman miter saw. I briefly owned a Cobalt sliding miter saw from ***** but took it back after one day. The laser was not aligned and useless (could not adjust!). I shoulda known to stick with Craftsman. My last one was flawless but my boss borrowed it indefinately. My only gripe is that the dust bag feature hardly works. Sawdust goes everywhere but in the bag. Not sure why - it's not clogged at all. The safety switch on the trigger annoys me but adapt and overcome right? Everything these days have so much safety built in and sometimes makes life difficult. I give it 4.5 stars for value.

GREAT EXCEPT FOR...

ASSEMBLY TIME: 8 mins PRICE: $190.00 Final price: $250.00 (5 year sears warranty was an additional $50.00) WARRANTY: you have the 90 day manufacturers, but for $50.00 you get a 5 year sears overall protection warranty AND once a year they will come to your house and perform free maintenance or you can bring it in and its still free MAIN POINT: the saw will cut through anything you throw in front of it and this is a quality saw by craftsman. PROBLEM: with a high quality saw comes a low quality problem...the miter handle installation was easy but i applied just a slight amount of pressure and the PLASTIC BROKE!!! though this does not affect the cutting capability of the saw its the principal of avoiding plastic where possible, craftsman, you know this. OVERALL: Great saw despite the plastic part that broke easily and it will easily get your job done. if you can get the saw on sale thats a plus and i highly recommend getting the 5 year sears warranty.

Broke during assembly

The **** used to lock the deck at varying angles is routed through a PLASTIC block with narrow ears at each end where it fastens to the metal neck which slides around the cutting deck. When I installed the handle and tightened it the first time it snapped with a loud pop. I have been waiting nearly a week for a replacement part. This is a poor design and I anticipate future problems with this poorly designed piece of the saw. Other than the fact I can't use it, it is a good looking conversation piece!
