This ISN'T a 19-24V drill so don't expect it to work like one. It's a very compact LIGHT 12V for average use. It's been great so far for automotive work and grinding/polishing. I DID buy the extended warranty as the clutch makes a lot of noise when you just drop the trigger. They all do it so it may be fine but 9 bucks for 2 additional years is cheap insurance. Yes, you can see the brush sparks..... as you can on my Milwaukee and many other drills. None of them is rated for enclosed explosive spaces. The battery charges fast and discharges slowly. I was amazed at it's "staying power" for such a small battery. It's li-ion so it doesn't slow down before it dies it just dies which I like. When using it for polishing and grinding, I don't want the torque to start slowly dropping off.
It's a handy tool when it's functioning. Feels good in the hand, lightweight, & has decent power. I've had it about a year. It never sees hard use, just lightweight around the house use. The problem is that it started to smoke the other day, a very light scent. The following day smoke started pouring out of it, then it stopped functioning. The day after that it was functioning again because it had cooled off. The troublesome thing is that I was driving small machine screws at the first clutch setting, & only for a couple of minutes total, so there wasn't any kind of strain going on. Over the 3 days it was in operation for between 3 & 4 minutes total. I doubt it's going to last much longer. Doing some research on the 'net, it seems that the electric motor burning out is a common issue. Now I'm torn between buying another one, or just spending twice as much to get another brand that will last.
Throw your big drill away! This drill has never, not done what I needed to do, AND it’s light and well balanced too. Well wait a minute… there was one time I was driving a lag screw into a 4x4 to put up the mail box. About 2/3’s of the way in the drill stopped. I couldn’t believe it. Then I noticed that I had it in Hi gear. I switched it to Low and finished the job.
I use this drill constantly in my woodworking business where I make chests. It works well for drilling holes and driving screws and I can build 2 chests on a single battery charge.
I bought this for a Christmas gift, I was impressed with the speedy & courtesy service I received. I will be doing business with Sears again
The price was in ****** for what I wanted to spend and the use is simple yet powerful!! I no longer need to be borrowing from friends. It's perfect for my first home!
This little guy is great!
The Craftsman 17586 NEXTEC Drill/Driver is a very strong operating unit. Compact and very easy to handle and carry. I enjoy built-in light. Makes it easier to see work. Lots of torque from a 12v system. I like 2 speed adjustment and variable torque clutch adjustments to prevent from over torqueing or stripping screws. I like battery change out capability for use with other Nextec series equipment which I have. Only draw back is lithium battery does not drain down like a conventional battery when it starts going out. The lithium battery will run full bore until the end then immediately shut off when power is depleted from battery. Overall this drill/driver is a very good product for the cost. I give it 2 thumbs UP.
Great drill for my small hands. Easy to use and works for hours on a charge
