Tough and strong drill-driver

Pros: I really like this little drill/driver. I use it almost every week for anything from tightening screws to heavy duty drilling 1" holes. Compared to my old Black and Decker, this is like night and day. The batteries last really long and it is much stronger than my 19 V driver (from a cheaper manufacturer). The light that comes on during operation is a nice touch which I now can't live without. I have 3 batteries at this point, but honestly only need one, because the charger is fast and the battery last long. The driver feels good in the hand and is nicely balanced and small. Cons: When pushing hard on the unit (for example to tighten a difficult screw), it is easy to push the gear selector from low to high during operation by accident, which I would guess could harm the gears. The quick-chuck is not working as well anymore after 2 years of usage. Sometimes have to turn almost a full turn until is holds against me and allows me to tighten the chuck.

Nice drill while it lasted

It's a handy tool when it's functioning. Feels good in the hand, lightweight, & has decent power. I've had it about a year. It never sees hard use, just lightweight around the house use. The problem is that it started to smoke the other day, a very light scent. The following day smoke started pouring out of it, then it stopped functioning. The day after that it was functioning again because it had cooled off. The troublesome thing is that I was driving small machine screws at the first clutch setting, & only for a couple of minutes total, so there wasn't any kind of strain going on. Over the 3 days it was in operation for between 3 & 4 minutes total. I doubt it's going to last much longer. Doing some research on the 'net, it seems that the electric motor burning out is a common issue. Now I'm torn between buying another one, or just spending twice as much to get another brand that will last.

Craftsman

This is a great tool for the home carpenter/DIY person. Put in a new door with all the hardware worked great. Also put in a home made door frame with help from the Craftsman Nextec drill driver

Surprisingly strong

|

Given the compact design, I was expecting something a little more basic. I am surprised how much torque and lasting power that this thing has, not to mention the same rpm's for drilling. Compared to my older 19.2v set I had, this ranks up there. I am impressed.

12 Volter

|

Got it because it is much more portable to fit in my tool bag for jobs. No big bulky battery. But it also has twice the torque as the Black and Decker 12 volt I was using. Win win!

Very surprised in a good way

|

Great product, and here is why: First, I had a Craftsman 19.2 volt drill and impact set that I bought 11 years ago. The batteries finally died, and we all know that batteries don't last forever, and hey cost just as much as an entire drill kit with newer tech. Well, I took a chance and bought this drill based on high reviews. To my shock, this little sucker not only does more work off of a single charge (compared to when my 11-year-old 19.2 volt system was new), but it has at least the same amount of torque. Even better, it weighs a lot less, and gets into tighter spaces. In my opinion, assuming that the lithium-ion battery holds up, this is one of the best drill deals out there and this is a VERY underrated item. I would definitely buy more of this Nextec series.

I wanted a reliable cordless. This is a great buy and I expect it to prove to be high quality even after years of use.
