Craftsman 21" 190cc Rear Bag High Wheel Push Lawn Mower

When you buy a lawn mower, you want to get it right the first time. I agonized over buying several different mowers, both gas and electric, but I finally chose the Craftsman 190cc with 7.0 ft/lb torque based on past performance of an old Craftsman Eager 1 that I had 20 years ago. I've mowed my 7000 sq. ft. yard with absolutely no problems. The grass was 8-10" high when I cut it and the mower never stalled once. I thought that the grass catcher could have been bigger but then I though that its because I neglected the lawn for too long. Next time I'll cut it long before it gets to 8". It starts with one pull every time. MRS (most reliable starting) is everything its cracked up to be.

Poor quality Carburation system that allows moisture in and creates a poor to no run result.  2 units purchased, same results

Spark plug fouls easy.Powerful enough for hard use, but not tough enough. Cuts out won't restart.

I actually have the Platinum 6.75hp rather than the 7. But close enough. It is a Briggs & Stratton. And I bought it to replace my previous craftsman(also a B&S)mower that finally went out(white smoke everywhere) on me after 10 yrs. I mow 3/4 an acre once a week, sometimes from Feb. to Dec. (when I fertilize in the fall it stays green and just keeps going) I do not like this mower as well. I thought the quick start would be nice....but it's a pain. If I mow wet grass higher than my ankles(sometimes in the spring it can't be avoided) It costs me a spark plug. They foul up with carbon real easy, then it won't start. Sometimes you can clean up the plug and finish, but in 2 years I've been through 3. They say to change it every yr. anyway right? Well my last craftsman only went through 3 in 10yrs. It is powerful, smooth & easy start most the time. But this Spring is 3rd season I've owned this mower an it is froze up solid, half way through 3rd use. Can't even turn it.

Great mower for the price

This mower has great power and range for the price. This is my second cutting season with it and I am still impressed.

major issues

Good. When it runs it cuts well. Bad. The paint came off it not long after the first use. Had for three years and have had major problems starting it. Now it wont start at all. It is poorly laid out for maintenance such as fuel line, carburetor etc. My third lawnmower from sears and my last.
