Initial review: Used 6 times thus far. I mulch cut my thick, uneven, 1/3 acre lawn and this mower does a very nice job. Easy assembly, It starts on the 1st pull every time and runs quiet. It's light (plastic wheels and parts of deck, not made like they used to be) and maneuverable. Pros:1).Love the Platinum 190 cc B&S engine. 5 stars for the engine (so far). Minor Cons: 1.) Although the EZ Deck Wash system is a great idea on paper, it leaves about 50% of the mulch buildup stuck to the deck underside when mulching. So I still need to flip it on it's side to hose it off. 2). Plastic wheels without wheel bearings. Neutral: The Non CA version I purchased online was not available in my area of PA (website issue) but the Sears sales guys were great, making up the price difference on the in stock 50 state (CARB) version. So I was very happy with the Sears store service. Overall, I'd recommend this Craftsman to a friend as a great value over it's competition. And at this price, it beats monkeying with the old mower's service and repair.
Poor quality Carburation system that allows moisture in and creates a poor to no run result. 2 units purchased, same results
after ^ 6 months had starting problems after 1 year wouldnt start at all . had a mclane reel mower that lasted almost 20 yrs never had a problem ! had to rebuild carburator.WARNING !!! YOU MUST DRAIN GAS TANK IF MOWER WILL BE SITTIN OVER A MONTH IT WILL VARNISH THE GAS AND U WILL HAVE PROBLEMS!
This perticular model grab my attention because of the style and self starter without priming.
This mower is superior to my old MTD mower in every way except that it takes 2 or 3 pulls to start instead of 1. The grass bag loads more evenly, the high rear wheels make it more maneuverable, the handle is stronger, and the engine is smooth and powerful.
I actually have the Platinum 6.75hp rather than the 7. But close enough. It is a Briggs & Stratton. And I bought it to replace my previous craftsman(also a B&S)mower that finally went out(white smoke everywhere) on me after 10 yrs. I mow 3/4 an acre once a week, sometimes from Feb. to Dec. (when I fertilize in the fall it stays green and just keeps going) I do not like this mower as well. I thought the quick start would be nice....but it's a pain. If I mow wet grass higher than my ankles(sometimes in the spring it can't be avoided) It costs me a spark plug. They foul up with carbon real easy, then it won't start. Sometimes you can clean up the plug and finish, but in 2 years I've been through 3. They say to change it every yr. anyway right? Well my last craftsman only went through 3 in 10yrs. It is powerful, smooth & easy start most the time. But this Spring is 3rd season I've owned this mower an it is froze up solid, half way through 3rd use. Can't even turn it.
This mower has great power and range for the price. This is my second cutting season with it and I am still impressed.
