It is rated at 30 lb per drawer, which it accomplishes. If you want a heavier box spend the extra money and get the one rated at 75 lb per drawer. It all depends on how heavy and how many tools you want to put in a drawer.
low price but too weak to hold hammers and other heavier tools
Purchased the 4-drawer cabinet for the purpose just to hold my household tools, putty knives, drill bits, levels, tool belt, extra. The drawers only hold 30 lbs and the metal is thin but then again I am not loading the drawers with heavy tools. Pain $89.99 and w/ SYW coupon $10 points w/ purchase of &75.00 I could not pass up the deal. Happy w/ the purchase.
I have always believed in the old adage that you get what you pay for. This is a piece of junk. I only bought it because I have some very light things to store, no more than 10 to 15 lbs. per drawer. One drawer came off the flimsy track the first couple of times I used it. When I put it back it comes off again as soon as I try to open it. I will now cut my losses and buy a decent one. I wish I had spent more money and got a quality cabinet in the first place.
This tool cabinet is made of lightweight steel and includes casters with hard plastic wheels. Unlike other tool cabinets, this model has a lock bar instead of a keyed tumbler lock. The drawers are built in to the cabinet and are able to removed if necessary.
The cabinet is assembled except the casters have to be bolted on. They are a little lighter weight than I expected but should ok for me.
This Mid to Low end tool cabinet is sturdy, easy to set up and use for light to medium duty use. The drawers use ball bearing slides so they open and close smoothly. The wheels are heavy plastic and should work well on smooth floors (but not as well on rough black top, etc.).
There is no push/pull handle, but since the cabinet rolls pretty well, it's not really necessary.
The locking mechanism is a bar that gets placed in front of the drawers. This is very cumbersome, since you need to store the bar somewhere, then hook it into the slots when you want to lock the cabinet. But once locked, it's very secure.
To get better quality you would need to spend much more $$$. For the price, this is an excellent unit.
I gave it to my boyfriend as a present and he loves it! Very durable and easy to set up. I would recommend it to anyone. My dad wants one now.
This tool chest is lightweight compared to other heavy gauge steel drawers. It's similar to a file cabinet. Two minor criticisms: The caster wheels are plastic, and the drawers are only capable of closing with the click-locks when pushing from one side (on empty). Great value for stationary office furniture with casters removed.
