it'e good

Unless your thread is really destroyed, these re-thread dies and taps will fix the threads.Tip: Instead of drilling out and inserting a HeliCoil, just go to the next largest size SAE ot Metric thread and re-tap at that size. For example, if you ruin a metric 6mm bolt, then just drill and re-tap for a 1/4" - 20 bolt

Absolutely useless! Don't waste your money.

You would be better off just running your bolt through the thread you are trying to clean up.  This is not even close to the sharpness or hardness of a standard tap.  Waste of money.  Had to go out and buy a real tap to clean up the threads.  Would've bought the tap in the first place, but Sears did not have the size I needed.

Still made in USA!

As more and more Craftsman products are switching to Chinese production (alot of american tool brands are doing it too), it is getting rarer to find tools still made in USA, get this while it still is american made, you'll be glad you did!

this is the right tool to clean up threads

These are really thread chasers. I used this tool set to clean up some threads on a cylinder head and it worked. It removed some dirt and little bit of metal shavings from the threaded hole. Just go slow when you turn it. It's better to use this tool if you want to clean up threads, if you want to cut new threads you would use a tap which is a different tool.

Buy It Now, You May Need It Later!

Made In The USA.  Model# 52105   Is Not A Tap & Die -  it is a rethreading kit, It is not intended for cutting new threads. The items are cutting tools and have a limited life expectancy and Do Not have a Lifetime Warranty.

In the event this set looks familiar It should, it is a rebranded Kastar product.  As you well know Kastar specializes in a number of areas, including rethreading tools, so the quality is definitely there.

With the proper use this set will allow you to quickly repair damaged and nicked threads on various bolts and nuts.

48 pc. SAE & Metric Thread Restorer  Kit # 971 2750 is another Kastar product as well.

Ensure you check the included sizes prior to purchase.

how did you ever get along without it?

you wouldn't think you would use one of these so much until you have one, then you use it all the time.

Worth the money

I am an engine machinist and builder whereas I am constantly going over and repairing threads. This kit is excellent! I have used it on a daily basis since I bought it and is much better than using taps and dies which will remove material. I would recomend this set highly.

Craftsman 40 pc. Tap and Die Set is the best for the dollar

I got this 40 pc. set a few weeks ago. The most useful part of the set for me is the thread chaser. I work at an auto shop and I use almost all Craftsman tools and this is the best for the price.

The Master Rethreader Set handles the job perfectly!

This is a rebranded Kastar product.  Kastar specializes in a number of areas, including rethreading tools, so the quality is definitely there, but with the added convenience of Sears/Craftsman service.

A rethreading kit is far preferrable to a standard tap and die kit, as you only want to chase the threads and clean them up, not cut entirely new ones.

This kit is nicely comprehensive for most tasks and carries a great price.

No, the warranty isn't "lifetime", but this is a wear-product.  Sandpaper doesn't carry a lifetime warranty.  Saw blades don't carry a lifetime warranty.  Taps and dies that wear out aren't going to carry a lifetime warranty, either.

good concept, poor quality control.

It it cheaply made and poorly put together. Parts not right, nor labeled right and needs to be sent back to get the right parts labeled right.

Terrible, do not buy unless for light service

The taps in this set are incredibly weak. I broke one in half trying to clean up the threads on my car frame where the trailer hitch mounts. The tap was not cross threaded and I was using a 6" ratchet so not a whole lot of torque. The tap kept getting stuck and so I was working it back and forth, cleaning half a turn at a time, when it broke. The threads are not sharp enough on these taps and they are made of weak metal so they will not cut new threads easily and tend to bind. Ended up buying a higher quality tap which cleaned up the threads in no time.

Unless you are planning on light usage, I would go with one of the other more expensive sets. The metal will be of higher strength and the taps will be much sharper and cut a cleaner thread in less time and aggravation.

This set is a life saver!

While working on cars, I occasionally encounter stripped threads.  This set has saved me many times!  The quality is excellent.  It is made in the USA.  I've seen no wear on the pieces.

I do wish more sizes were included in the set.  I have since found a larger Craftsman set that is not available in stores and must be ordered.

BEWARE: NO CRAFTSMAN FOREVER WARRANTY

I bought the 40 pc rethreading set, reassured by the label on the cover that says "Craftsman Forever Warranty".  Note that the warranty link on this page makes no exceptions for this tool set.  On the inside though is a card with "Dear Valued Customer"  (scare quotes mine, but you know what is coming), some stuff about labels for the inside of the case, followed by "Craftsman individual taps and dies are cutting tools and have a limited life expectancy.  Consequently, these items DO NOT carry the Craftsman lifetime warranty."

I can see the logic, but I also see the deception, both in the web page links and on the cover of the tool case itself.  If they can put a card on the inside of the case, under the shrinkwrap, they could have (and should have) put the correction on the OUTSIDE of the case and on the webpage.

I am afraid I will have to return mine, as I am very unhappy about this situation.  I can't comment on the tool, because I cannot use it before returning it.

Missing the one size I needed the most!

I just bought this set and brought it home, only to find out that the die I needed right away -- 10mm x 1.25 -- is not included. I find this particularly annoying because this a very common size. One 10mm size in the set (10 x 1.5) and THREE 12 mm dies??? C'mon Sears, get a clue.

I'll be returning the set tomorrow, just because of this.

If you don't have one of these, make sure your friends do. I've had it for 3 yrs, used it 2 times for bad situations, used it dozens of times just to clean out some corrosion, thread locker, etc.

Got me out of a jam the first time I used it. Seems like good quality. I wish it had a few more sizes, but other than that it's a nice set.
