Excellent kit for the value

This is a fantastic kit for the price. The quality is the same as much more expensive pieces from high end brands. A necessity for any serious tool box. EDIT: This kit comes from the same manufacturer that the truck brands take and slap their logo on and sell for 3x-5x the price. This set has saved my **** twice already - once when I encountered a deformed wheel stud and the grinding bars filed the threads back to shape and once when I deformed an intake manifold bolt that threaded into the engine block. A quick run through of the bolt in the proper die and the bolt threaded back into its hole like butter. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Restoring set

The product works good, but no warranty or you cannot even get a replacement piece when you break one

Great tool!!!

|

I've been a DIY guy for a while but recently my ************** stuff has been breaking a lot, so I've started purchasing everything from craftsman. This set has turned all my rusting bolts and nuts brand new with a little WD-40 and some time. I know that everything is torqued to spec after I use these.

48 pc. SAE & Metric Thread Restorer Kit

|

This set is identical to the Snap-On set at less than half the cost. This makes the SO-fanboys very mad.

The set is very high quality and is super handy. I use the kit frequently.

Same as the rest

|

First, These are not taps&Dies, they are thread chasers. Lube them and back them out to clear the crud off and they do the job.
I've used my set for many years and have only broken one internal part. Easily replaced off a truck.

Kastar tool is the maker of this kit, and the same people who make the S.On, Mac, Mco and Cwall kits as well. The only differences are the price and that SOn and Matco do replace the pieces that break, However you can buy 4 kits from Sears for one SOn... That said the trucks and online will also sell you replacement pieces.

Saved my mower

|

The electric PTO fell off my mower's driveshaft after years of operation, threads on both ends were messed up. The PTO threads into the end of the crankshaft so I really, really didn't want to mess up this repair! Anyway this set did the job and I had it up and running again in no time.

Previously I've used cutting taps but had just gotten this thread reformer. I was very happy to use it instead because it is less likely to cut new threads and crossthread, and it really does press the metal back into place instead of removing it in chips.

Like all taps it is made of somewhat brittle metal, so if it breaks off you can get a punch and break it up and remove the rest. The key to not breaking a tap (cutting or reforming) is to back-off oten and relube often. Very often. Just forcing it in there will break it for sure.

Good quality Set

|

I bought this set for our shop. We are always gumming up our nuts and bolts with dirt and resin. We have our standard Tap and Die set, but I wanted to try the thread restorer kit out. I think it is a really good addition to our tool chest. I find these to be a very "mild" way of cleaning up threads. You certainly can use a tap and die set to do the same thing, but there is a higher chance of really messing something up. Using this kit is much safer. Though not absolutely necessary, I am glad we have it.

Great set

|

Looks like good quality and a good value. Made in USA. One of those tools a DIYer won't need too often, but a huge time saver when it is needed.

Great value thread restorer kit

|

This kit is made in USA and has both Metric and SAE thread sizes. I looked around at what other options were available and found that this appears to be the same kit you can buy for 3X the price from your local tool delivery service, it is also very convenient to have the thread files included in the same box. I bought 2 of these, one for each shop at work.

Excellent Thread Restorer

|

I haven't used it yet but looks like a high quality product but I have used other brands versions which looks exactly the same and it is a life saving tool to have in your tool box. This is not to be used as a tap and die for cutting threads! This product is for straightening out threads that are messed up.

Gets the job done

|

Cleans threads right up. I needed a 14mm size tap and die and there aren't too many inexpensive sets with this size available. Keep in mind, that this is not a true tap/die set and mainly to chase existing threads. This kit had just what I needed.

I would give it 5 stars but the threads of my 8mm size "die" sheared right off on some stubborn threads. Thanks Craftsman for your Forever Warranty. I did have some problems replacing it since this is an ONLINE ONLY item and not available in stores. Finally got it replaced.

Good value set

|

This set is very different from tap/die sets which will mess up a hole or thread if used to "repair" the hole or thread as they will cut new threads. Much better to use this thread restorer kit to fix threads or holes and usually reuse the fastener too.

Fantastic set

|

This is a great set. It is made by the same company that supplies the professional truck brands. This is not a tap and die set, and should not be used to cut new threads. I used it to clean the stripped threads on a part that sells for $350 new so the kit paid for itself in one use. I now use the kit on all kinds of rusty threads and can't believe that I made due without these tools for so long. This set is made in the USA. There is no guarantee on this kit, but replacements parts are available from various truck-brand (SO) websites for cheap.
