51-1/4" Wide 9-Drawer GRIPLATCH® Top Chest - Black ( WARPED )

Bought this with matching bottom.Top piece is warped. Will not sit flat on bottom box.Not worth effort to send back.Had to use some foam and a few washers to level it out.Not sure if it was made poorly or boxed on crate uneven causing it to warp while sitting.Have to have lid open to open drawers. Wish they used lift shocks on lid.Otherwise I'm happy with it.

Good box but does no good when the lock breaks with your tools inside

I've had this box for about two years and tonight the lock broke as I was cleaning up for the night. The box is worthless when you have a 20 year collection of tools locked inside. I'll stop being cheap and start buying Snap-On or Mac tools.

griplatch drawers for the win

I got this set and the bottom box. I thought I had alot of tools but when I condensed them to this set I had plenty of room. The griplatch drawers are nice and they roll smoothly. Best toolbox I have ever owned.

Great complement to lower box

I like the GripLatch drawers and added space. It would be nice if the box came with drawer liners (other boxes I have owned did) and if it was the same depth as the lower box. No real complaints, great homeowner box with some room for expansion.

Excellent Box for Price

This is a great tool box. Love the ball bearing and locking drawers. Tool Box is very heavy-duty and the price was great, especially with the bundle offer from Sears. Was simple to assemble and set up in the shop. Very strong construction and will last a lifetime.

Craftsman 52" 9-drawar chest - Great value

I shopped all the alternatives and the Craftsman was the best value. I wanted 'next to the top' quality since I'm not a professional wrench. Craftsman Professional, Snap-on, Matco are the best but have a very steep price. Craftsman premium with Griplatch drawers is the best value. Mine came in great shape with no dings, miss-aligned drawers, or other flaws that people were having with Sears during their bad quality years. I got this and the matching bottom for $999 online only sale. Can't beat it.One note - you must have the lid open in order to open the 9 drawers. I wish you didn't.

JUNK and horrible customer service

DO NOT BUY! I was excited about this purchase. When I got it home, the top tool chest was so twisted it would not sit on the cart straight. While inspecting the damage, I came to realize how cheaply this was made. The metal is so thin it is hard to tell what keeps all their tool boxes from twisting. Sears was very little help in resolving the issue. I am returning and for the price I have found much better quality elsewhere. Take my advice for what its worth but I am speaking from experience.

Thin metal and broken spot welds equals not very good.

The Craftsman 51-1/4" tool chest is beautiful, and has plenty of room to store what you need into it.  Unfortunately, upon taking it out of the box, I noticed broken spot welds right away.  The thin, cheap, flimsy metal that the box is made out of doesn't  get stronger with the broken welds either.

If this box could have slightly thicker metal, and GOOD WELDS, this would be a 5 star item, and well worth the money. I don't see that happening anytime soon, and therefor, I would have to recommend that you get a quality box (MATCO, Snap-On, etc) Instead.  For what this unit costs, it should have lasted until my kids are old and retired. This couldn't even make it out of my truck.

Buy a better product if you have the means to.

Craftsman 51 1/4" tool chest

I bought this top box late last year, so I've had a little time to get to know it. I really like having the ball bearing slides. My previous boxes were older Craftsman units with standard slides, it really make a difference when the drawers are loaded. I like the way the top of the box is designed, I'm able to put my long pry bars under the top lid, without having to squeeze them sideways in a drawer. I also had room for a 48" metal rule in the top that I use for layout work.

Note that this box is only 16" deep, not 18" like the matching bottom cart. I don't know why they wouldn't make them both 18", you're buying a 52" box because you need the capacity, right?

One thing I did notice that I don't like is the top lid. There is no easy way to open it, it's narrow and there's no edge to catch with the palm of your hand to push it open. It's an easy fix, I just need to find a pair of small black or aluminum handles to bolt on.

One more thing. HEY SEARS! Why don't you offer an 18" deep intermediate box to go under this top box?  You make one for the 40" unit. It wouldn't need to be one wide drawer, I would settle for a double bank of 3 drawers, 22" wide, 2" and 3" high drawers. I'll have this one filled shortly and I'll need to expand!

Great price & Quality.

I was originally looking to get the 52" combo but at 50% off for this model I couldn't pass up the deal.  It has outstanding Craftsman quality and more than enough space for the typical homeowner.  I went from my 27' rollaway that was overfilled with tools to this top chest and bottom combo and had a few drawers still empty.
