This charger was bought because I changed over to lion batteries. It is capable of nicad or lion. The unit senses what type the battery is. It charged the lion batteries in 20 minutes. The unit and batteries did not get hot. Really like this charger.
this battery charger only lasted 4 months with only occasional use
I bought this to replace the first lithium charger that was used quite frequently, since all my lithium tools are Craftsman 19.2 volt cordless. Though it was not long-lived, it was almost constantly charging for my string trimmer, hedge trimmer, drills, circular saw, sabre saw and more. The only thing that needs to be changed is a way to break down the components when it no longer works to recycle properly.
I had 4 dead batteries when this charger came . Pulled it out of the box and plugged it in. The first battery was charged sooner than I expected . I charged every battery in less than a couple hours . Not sure how long ,they where done every time I looked. My old charger took for ever. glad I misplaced that one and had to buy another.
This is a replacement for one I had before that just died one day for no reason - I had it for about 2+ years so a little disappointed that I had to replace it. Hope this one lasts longer.
The charger that came with my drill died. This one works great so far. One feature I really like is the energy save mode in case you forget to take the battery off the charger right away. You can use this charger for more than one type of battery too.
Dead after only three years of *light* residential use. Perhaps charging batteries 36 times, if that.
Also do not see anything in accompanying instructions that clarify how long batteries can be left in this charger. (remove immediately upon charging, overnight, long-term storage?) That kind of instruction is REQUIRED for proper use.
Now stuck buying another Crappy Craftsman Chinese-Made Item.
I love this charger. It will charge the older batteries also. It has lights so you can see what it is doing, and when your battery is charged, my old one didn't.
Batteries charge quickly. Displays indicate status of battery and are very easy to read.
