Easy to replace old opener

I originally ordered this opener to be installed for $120, but got a call that they did not have installers thru sears in my area. I got my money back and was going to call local contractors. I decided to take a look at the instructions and I'm glad I did. With all the existing hardware and wiring in place, it was a piece of cake. Super quiet. I had trouble with programming my truck's button to work, but I found a section in my owner's manual for GDO's with the security feature this one has and was able to program it. Opens slow, but with the reach of the HomeLink from the truck it opens it from a very good distance and it's 100% open when I pull into the drive. Before you pay for installation to replace an existing look at the directions and your existing installation and see if you can do it yourself.

Buyer Beware

Beware... Sears does not stand behind the 3 year parts warranty after 90 days as it reads in your manual !  Bought 2 in December and installed in April. Garage door started going back up by itself last week. The position sensor on the motor is bad. The only way they MAY honor the warranty is if you spend $99 for a technician to come to your house and then in turn orders the part. Otherwise they will only sell you this less than $50 value part by buying the entire motor for $109. Your roped in to their service. Battled this for days on the phone as they bounced me from department to department or disconnected from the call. I was never rude at any time. Do NOT buy craftsman and know that SEARS does NOT value you as a customer. I have been a loyal customer for 30 years and spent thousands this year alone. They do NOT care. Willing to lose a customer over a $50 part. REFUSE to pay 1/2 of the purchase price of this opener for a technician to tell me I need the part I already know is bad. Pulled the part from my 2nd opener and moved to my most active door. Will never buy Sears and/or Craftsman again. Researching to see if this is legal based on the language in thier warranty. Frustrated does not begin to describe me right now!

Works Great Extremely Quiet!

I?m replacing my 18 year old screwdrive type of opener. This battery back up unit works great! Its operation is near silent and smooth. After I installed this new opener on my 18 year old door I realized that the rollers on the old door were loud and squeaky so a little lithium grease on them and everything works in near silence, GREAT! I installed this unit 5 months ago and it works flawlessly. I?ve unplugged the unit and tested the battery backup system and it works fine. Since my garage has only the car doors I needed a battery backup unit so I can get my car and generator out when the power goes out. I also like how the control panel displays the time and temperature. To ensure operation during power outages I plan on replacing the battery every two years regardless of condition, they are relatively inexpensive.

Quietest opener I've never heard!

I purchased on sale for under $190.00, definitely worth the money at the regular price. Normal installation is a breeze, except for the fact that there's a support beam across my finished garage ceiling, so I had to shorten the rail 3", and the belt 6". It would be nice if Craftsman provided on-line or toll free technical support, which unlike Genie, they do not. Very quiet unit that can't even be heard in the overhead master bedroom. We love it!

Great GDO

Installation took about 3 to 4 hrs. Adjustment would have taken about 30 minutes if i followed instructions word for word. Overall this GDO is worth the money and time to install yourself.

Lasted 1 year

Beware. Sears no longer provided technical support for garage door openers. Mine died after on 1+ years and Sears will only send a technician to determine the problem. Parts are warranteed, however, the technician charge starts at $80...for a $200 product. Junk.

Wait for the sale!

I bought two of these units to replace a genie from the 1970's and a new install on my other door. The units were relatively easy to install by yourself but make sure you check for any addendums to the installation manual. In my case each unit came with different instructions, one had the addendum to make them equal. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product. They are much quieter than the screw drive I had installed. The battery backup is a nice feature as well.

Comes with everything.

Very quiet and smooth compared to my old chain drive Sears that was 25 years old. Like the auto light motion sensor and garage temp. Easy to install.

Easy to install and works with older HomeLink

I've never installed an opener before so I didn't know what to expect. The instructions were good and took me just over 3 hours (including programming both of our cars) to install it by myself. It was also very easy to make all of the final adjustments. A HUGE improvement over my previous opener, so much quieter. I've seen some complaints that other openers don't work with vehicle's homelink if it's older than 2011....I had no problem what so ever programming this one with my 2003 Chevrolet and my 2004 BMW. This has a lot of nice features, and don't be afaid to install this yourself!

good door opener but........

Bought this opener about 6 months ago. Seems to be a good quite door opener. Only problem is sometimes it won't work when the stationary remote is pressed. I have to walk thru the beam at the bottom of the door and then press the remote and it works. Go figure. Only other dislike is the menu scrolls really slowwwwwwwwwwwww.

Look at the features!

I had 2 openers destroyed by lightening. I made the mistake of replacing one with a "cheap" unit. I didn't make that mistake twice! This opener has 2 remote controls, an outside the garage control, an excellent main control (with a clock, thermometer, and lockout switch), and battery backup. Even without the belt drive and 3/4 hp motor it is a good value.
