Moved to rural area in a high mountain desert in New Mexico several years ago. This is a very dry area that doesn't support regular lawns. My property is 1.6 acres and is covered with native grasses, weeds, goat head, tumbleweed, cactus etc. I cut this stuff 2-3 times a year on about 2/3 acre surrounding the house . The top of the line Honda I used for 3 years struggled to cut it. In April I purchased this mower and I am really impressed. Absolutely nothing slows it down and it does a terrific job of mulching this variety of growth. I like the single handle height adjustment and one pull start. The B & S engine is very fuel efficient and is really quite. This mower has large wheels and rolls easily. Love the rear wheel drive. Highly recommend this mower.
If you like yellow, easy starts, quit and the word professional, this is the mower for you, but if you want a mower that gives a good quality cut, this is not the mower your looking for. The only thing professional about this mower is the name. Like most of the country this 2012 mowing season we had drought conditions in our area so the mower was used very little this season so the 30 day return time frame ran out. Do not buy this mower. Worst mower I have ever used in my 45 years of mowing.

1)Mulches very well, engine does not bog down, and it has not left a trail of clippings behind the mower.2)Bagging works well, but is a little difficult to remove and replace bag, pull cord rubs on top of bag. Note:Not a issue for me as it does such a good job of mulching that I will rarely use the bag.3)Side discharge is powerful & works well.4)Easy to use, self propel & engine bail levers are comfortable and easy to use.5)Rear wheel drive self propel works well without slipping. Note:This mower will pull you around the the yard if you desire mow this way.6)Engine has started on 1st pull every time. It is well balanced, very quiet and has power to spare.7)Single lever height adjustment lever is quick and easy to use. Locks in place well.8)Mower has a very level cut and leaves lawn looking good.9)Good on gas, mowed 1/2 acre on 1 tank with some fuel left. Much better than my 10 year old Craftsman.10)Overhaul Quality is Good. Rolled edge on mower deck makes it stronger. Wheel bearings in all 4 wheels & Platinum series Briggs & Stratton engine.
Hard to find a simple lawn mower any more. Engine starts and runs perfectly (B&S) Using 89 octane and fuel stabilizer. Best for side dis-charge >>> bag inconvenient and only works with dry grass. Handles tall, wet grass well; stalling minimal amount of times. Power is great! Durability is the unknown >>> have had Honda and Husquvana lasted one season; researched this and think that the engine appears to be the best available. So far so good.
I bought this mower for a standard 0.25 acre lot with a fairly steep hill and slightly wooded back that edges to a creek. It has performed great. The adjustable walk speed is easy adapted to mine or my daughter's pace and it has enough power for the incline that my daughter needs while mowing. Everything is easy to use - my (9 years old) daughter can easily use and operate and it is not overwhelmingly big, so she can fit through and around the trees in the back. More satisfied with the purchase than I expected.
I bought this mower and am inpressed. Clean cutting, starts on 1st pull, self-propelled is very strong and climbs hills with ease. The only thing I wish this mower had would be an option of to be a push mower with self-propelled when you need it or that the self-propelled would had the ability to go faster. But over-all I am very satisfied with this mower.
Online this mower was listed under electric start which is why we bought it. We picked it up and when we got it home realized that it is NOT electric start. (you can even purchase extra ignition keys for this mower) This mower does a great job on the lawn once you get it started. It takes at least 75-100 pulls and sometimes more to get it started. I have never in my life seen anything so extremely hard to start. My husband and I take turns pulling on the cord to get it started and most of the time my arm is shaking by the time we do get it started. Our suggestion is -- you had better have a strong arm and an extra 20-40 minutes to waste getting this mower started before you plan to start mowing.
I just recently got this mower so I really can't review for durability but it has a quite a bit of "Giddy Up" and handles the wet tall grass pretty good.It was easy to assemble and is easy to handle.I would say that the bag could be a little bigger but I think it is standard nowadays. You really can't go wrong with Craftsman!
i BOUGHT THIS MOWER ABOUT ONE AND A HALF YEARS AGO. iT IS A GOOD MOWER IN A LOT OF WAYS. iT MULCHES BETTER THAN MY LAST MOWER EVEN WHEN LAWN IS WET. THE ABILITY TO AJUST ALL WHEELS IN ONE MOVE IN NICE AND SAVES A LOT OF TIME. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IF THERE IS ONE IS THAT IT IS A LITTLE BULGY TOMOVE AROUND SOME TIMES.
The 21 inch Sears Craftsman lawnmower(RWD)has the power but is relatively quiet to operate. I mow my yard as well as my neighbors which takes approximately 1:45 min. to do both. The yards are adjacent to one another with some slopes to contend with as well as a few trees and telephone poles. The 21 inch Professional does a great job cutting through high grass while mulching at the same time! I have not used the rear bagger yet but will to rid my lawn of leaves once the time is right. I would encourage anyone to purchase this model if they have a large lot of lawn to cut and need a powerful mower to get the job done in a decent time frame. The only negative aspect to this mower is that its a little rigid to maneuver around objects that are in the way.
it fires up on the 1st pull every time. Actually works like it is supposed to. I do wish that the bag had a handle sewn on the backside to ease in dumping.
I purchased this lawn mower with the key start and thought it would be a quality purchased since I paid around $750 (after three year master warranty program). The mower right out of the box started right up was really quite! The mower feels well built and I thought I had a winner here. However, once out cutting grass I found that it would cut the grass but the end product was not smooth and very uneven. I tried to lower the mower and even raise it (which took way to long to do) but this did not work. I tried to go slower giving the mower more time to cut the grass. I even tried to cut less grass at a time. I even cut the grass two times. Same results, the grass was very rough. Every customer of mine complained about the "Cut".
I then tried out the baggins system, since a lot of people complained about it not working properly. I can confirm that they are correct. The bagging system is "bulky" and does not function.
Basicly, to sum things up: The mower feels great, great engine, quality built but it just does not cut or bag well. Therefore, I will be returning this back to Sears.
I have mixed feelings about this lawn mower. My husband and I have always bought from sears when it comes to lawn and garden supplies because he espcially likes the Craftsman brand. First off I will start by saying that it is a good value for the money if you are looking for a good tough rugged mower. Second, it was very easy to start, I was rather pleased that it started on my first pull. Third, very easy and quick to assemble. My main complaint was the lack of suction with the bag. I could only fill the bag up a little bit before it would come off. Overall though, I would still have to say that its not a bad mower.
This is the first push mower i owned. I decided on this one becouse of the strong deck and the duriblity.I threw the handle on, filled it with the oil it came with, filled up the grass and it fired up on the second pull. Its preaty quiet and the strength is amazeing, it does a better job the the old murry rider i had. I wasnt able to cut the grass for a few weeks and liveing in south Louisiana the grass grows fast. The grass was about knee high and preaty thick. This mower took care of the high grass no problem at all, ALTHO! i did choke it out in some preaty thick grass just had to take my time, but it started back up with one pull. the only thing i didnt like is the wheels sliped a lot when it got thick, im just guessing it was the thick grass that was holding it back.. but with a little push to help it out it mowed threw it.
All in all i think its a great mower im cutting around 3/4 of an acre ,side discharge im not worried with bagging. so if your looking for a mower that will last i would go for this one.
This mower worked okay at first but the bag constantly leaks dust and is a pain to empty. In the beginning I did love the one pull start but now it takes three or four. Also just this weekend it began spewing white smoke from the front pipe. It has oil and gas and is only two months old so I am staying away from user error and calling this piece of crap.
I bought the Craftsman Pro 21" RWD mower after trying a Large wheel RWD Craftsman. There is no comparison, even though the Craftsman Pro mower was slightly lower in price due to recent sales. This mower is more solidly built, runs quieter and there is much less dust with this bagging system. I was not able to pull the first mower backwards without the wheels dragging but there are no issues with this mower. It also pulls the hill on my front lawn with ease. No complaints so far and don't expect any issues. I also like the fact that this is the only Sears mower to offer a commercial warranty.
The mower is very quiet and powerful enough for my St. Augustine lawn.
That is the good news.
The bad news is the uneven cut the mower leaves. It leaves my lawn looking furry with blades sticking up here and there.
I have had the blade professionally sharpened and the set-up checked out to no avail.
The engine starts up easily and is the quietest mower I have ever used. It goesthrough my thick lawn without issue except for the cut is leaves behind.
Also, note this mower doesn't have a manual throttle. It is set to run at optimum rpm continuously.
We bought this mower from Sears based on reviews we read in ****************. Unfortunately we have been very disappointed in this mower and are really sorry we bought it. Assembly was fast an easy, but the first time we mowed it kept dying and the bagging system kept plugging up. We were constantly unplugging the tube to the bag and restarting the engine. After using the mower a couple times we checked the blades and found out that the manufacturer had failed to sharpen the blades, so we sharpened the blades ourselves. Then we changed the oil as was recommended, and the oil was full of metal shavings. After sharpening the blades and changing the oil a couple times the mower is working, but we have no confidence that this mower will last very long. Besides all the other problems we've had with it, the bagging tube constantly plugs up from the poor design. We should have just gone with a cheap mower and it would have worked just as well and probably lasted just as long. Too bad everything is made in China now.
