RATEDGreat compared to most modern furniture
As others have stated, it's definitely a good solid wood product when compared to the mdf junk that's in most furniture you can order online with free shipping. Compared to most furniture of that sort, it's great, it's really nice looking, while still being quite easy to put together despite having good strong mortise and tenon joints and screw connections that tap into wood backers. However, it's not "solid wood," nor is it a high quality piece of woodwork. It's got alot of plywood in it, which again is great for budget furniture, but it appears that the plywood and most of the solid wood is actually fairly soft. It's made in Indonesia, which is fine. but it's a type of wood I'm not familiar with. I don't think it's the type of wood that will become antique, and it will likely dent and scratch easily over the years. It's a very simple and elegant design, though, so if you wanted to copy it with hard oak or maple for the outside pieces, it would be fairly easy. The finish job on it is fairly cheap, too, unfortunately, which I just wish was more consistent since that's most of what you see. There was a light spot on the edge of one of the drawers that can blend into the shadows for the most part, or I can touch up with a finish pen. Also, there are definitely a few pieces of mdf snuck in there in inconspicuious places that likely won't affect the strength. As long as you don't go into it expecting a work of art, it's a great piece of furniture that I would recommend spending the extra bit of money on instead of picking up something at a department store. I'm actually really impressed with the design of it, and given that I expect alot from furniture, that's a really good thing.
