Don,t waste your money.

I got this battery charger for a birthday gift. The battery charger I had before for over twenty years was a Centuary. It cost around $100.00.I have used it this charger three times to charge up my diesel truck. Well the cabels touched Pos.& Neg. instint death to the charger. There is no circuit breaker on it if this happens. Spend a few dollars more get a centuary or shumaker.

Unreliable design

|

I am a highly experienced engineer, and I purchased one of these chargers. I only used it for about 8 times over a 2-year period. The last time it failed completely. When I dis-assembled it, I saw the five small transistors that produce the load current. One fails, and they all fail. I have no idea why it failed, as I was only trying to charge a small mower battery. There are no parts available, and I was denied Sears servicing of the item. There is no schematic or parts lists available.

I have had excellent lifetimes on my other past Sears products, but this one is terrible in every way except its looks.

If you do have one, treat it very carefully in every way is my only suggestion.

|

I bought this battery charger for my husband car. he rarely used this car so whenever he needs it, it wont run cause its battery dies. this battery charger is very helpful and practical . its size is perfect.I think this kind of battery charger should be available in everyone's home as it is as important as an extinguisher.

Do Not Buy

|

Purchased this charger about a year ago, have used a few times. Last week I charged a battery overnight and simply unplugged the power cord and walked out of my garage for a few minutes. I came back in to a cloud of smoke coming from this charger and the positive and negative cables melted all the way into the unit. Serious fire hazard, this unit should be recalled. Worst unit I have ever owned and would not recommend buying one period.

First one didn't work

|

Brutal winter and the first one we bought didn't work.
Took it back and it was replaced quickly and the second one worked.
I guess I would recommend you check it before you leave the store.

Does a good job

|

Has worked perfect for a few months. Great to keep a battery maintained, its automatic. Unit has some weight to it, made at the same country Schumacher chargers are made. Charge dead batteries slow for best results.

Diehard 2/10/50 Amp Battery Charger

|

Solid built should last for years to come. Price was about 50% of what another high quality brand. I bought four of these one for me, one for my son and two to sell to pay for all four. I had a 2/10/50 Amp that I had for about 20 years that I sold also.
I like the 50 Amp start so you can start the car fast. I also like the automatic 10 amp changes to 2 amps once the batter is fully charges. Also like that it will fully charge a 12 volt car battery in 4 to 5 hours. These chargers are not needed all the time but when you need one they are great to have. I have let my neighbors use this charger and that make me a hero.
Overall I like these charger very much.

Very Good Charger

|

Jump started my car with no problem. Seems to have good quality like the last one I had that was nearly 10 years old.

Charges OK

|

The 10amp charging mode seems to work well. However, the 50amp "Engine Starter" setting could not turn over the engine of my Craftsman riding lawn mower. I would not recommend it if you need that function to work.

When on sale... and it is automatic.

|

If you can catch this on sale for about half, for an automatic charger that could be left on for days or more.... and if they last half as long as the last one I bought 30 years ago and still going with minor repairs (replaced clamps and power cord with 25' cheap extension cord, but missing carry handle), these are a deal.

Only time will tell on these imports (Mexico) and why the four star instead of five, but these do have a 3 year warranty.

If you have the time, no battery likes to be over charged, but modern high amperage auto batteries with close internal plates don't like to be cycled dead to full charge very many times before they are junk. This model seems to tickle recharging slowly before coming to full power on 10 amp automatic... it may start off at 1 amp or less, but give it time to do it's job automatically.

I have noticed with the 50 amp boost, let it charge for a few minutes before trying to start whatever and it will not trip the overheat switch as quickly. I also purchased the larger 250 amp 'manual' charger made in Mexico for a lot more money and it states 3 seconds maximum while waiting 240 seconds before next try and basically a two person operation because one cannot do it that fast.

That said, this 'automatic' unit and a portable battery booster on sale makes more sense for normal use and emergency.... as you have an automatic charger that does not overcharge for maintenance duty, or bringing a battery back to full charge slowly, as well as a moderate 50 amp boost, but also a cordless battery booster for emergencies that puts out as much or more power than any of the chargers for less money.

Good charger bad clamps

|

I have two of these and they work great, compared to all the junk out there. I Wish the clamps were better quality. I treat my stuff with alot of care and never abuse but the wire came off of one of the clamps but I was able to crimp it back on. If I didnt catch it cant imagine the damage it could have caused.

An excellent quality battery charger

|

This is an excellent quality charger that will maintain the charge on a battery after charging it so you don't have to worry about unplugging it or that the battery will over charge. It also has a starter function is a bit small in capacity but might be just enough to start a small to med size auto. Overall very pleased with price and charger.
