great boot for $50

I bought these boots from my local Sears about 6 months ago and have been extremely happy with them. I was concerned that waterproof leather boots at this price would fall apart very quickly, but they have not (yet), nor do they show any signs of problems. I am very hard on shoes and know what problem areas to look for. I was concerned that the metal grommets would pop out but they are in fine shape. I was concerned that the metal hooks at the top of the boot would cut into the laces (or my fingers) or bend, but they are fine. I was concerned that the stitching would break or wear out at the seams, but there is no sign of this. And I was concerned that the soles would start to separate from the leather where it is glued together (as reported by another reviewer). Thus far, there is no sign of any of these problems. I have worn these boots daily for about six months, through a Chicago winter averaging several miles of outdoor walking per day along with some trail hiking in all conditions including rain, mud, and snow. They continue to be water proof and I continue to be extremely impressed with them considering they cost $50. I have paid three times as much for a pair of high end hiking boots in the past and these Elk Woods Summit boots are equal to or superior to them in every way including fit and comfort! My only criticism of the boot is the orange highlights which in my opinion detract from an otherwise good looking boot. If all of the orange bits were black or dark green, the styling would be perfect.

Confortable show but very poor quality workmanship.

Soles came apart from body of shoe after one month of normal wear.

Dry Boot that Leaks

I bought this boot specifically because of it's "i.dry waterproof system". Unfortunately didn't get a chance to wear them in wet conditions until after the 90 day return period. Right boot absorbed water from wet pavement! Sears would not take them back and couldn't even get them to tell me how to contact manufacturer. If you buy, make sure you check out the boot's waterproof feature before your 90 days are up.
