We fixed the sag problem with the top

Lots of helpful pointers from previous owners helped us solve the sag problem with canopy. Of the 5 bars that go on the top of the structure we reversed # 1, 3 and 5 (or turned them upside down). This corrected the pitch of the canopy. Also sprayed the canopy material with waterproof spray which aided in repelling water! Finally added 8 lbs weights to each corner of bar that allows you to move canopy back and forth to keep material taunt.

Terrible - not as advertised

This is for outdoors right? It is flimsy. The material on top does not hold up well to any weather. One night of wind and rain wore it out. It took about 2 weeks for the ties to break off and have to be repaired. Once the material flapped a bit in the wind, it weaked it enough to tear when we tried to take it down. We tried to go to Sears for warranty. They told us we need to go to the Manufacturer. They manufacturer says it is not for permament outdoor use. It needs to be taken down for any weather. NO WARRANTY. This this is not worth 99 dollars, much worse asking price. If you are looking for one, inquire within. You can have mine. JUNK

Good overall Value

|

We had purchased this last week on clearance and I have to say it was a bargain in comparison to other products out there. I purchased this as a cover over an outdoor spa. The spa is on the north side of my home and direct sunlight isn't a major concern, but I live in the Pacific Northwest, so rain is definitely a problem a good part of the year.

I followed the advice of a previous reviewer, flipping the 1-3-5 struts to provide a more consistent cantor to the cover. I also got 4 five pound ankle weights and hung them from the corners of the cover. The cover now comes with drain holes as well. As luck would have it, a thunder storm came through after it was up a few hours. Good downpour and it did produce some pockets of water accumulation, but nothing as described by other reviewers, and nothing that required a lot of inconvenience to drain..

Should note, the cover is waterproof, but is a very thin material - more a sunscreen than a cover. I have already purchased a heavy duty 10'X12' tarp and bungies that will go on it this fall. The cover it comes with would not likely survive a winter.

The structure appears very sturdy, but I was not confident with the small pins provided to anchor it to the ground. I have artificial lawn and did not wish to bury the post, but I did come up with a solution. I purchased 4 three gallon decorative plastic planter pots and two 80 pound bags of concrete. I set each leg in a pot and filled with about 2 gallons of concrete (about 35 pounds). The added weight gives me a bit more comfort that it won't lift off the ground and it does appear more solid

CANOPY PROBLEM

|

Purchased this item on 3/27/12 and picked up at local Kmart. There is a major problem with rain water draining off the top, therefore creating water bellies between the cross members. This is a pain having to push the water off the canopy when it rains. About 2 months ago I pushed a hole through the canopy when pushing the water off with a broom. There is no drop between the last 2 cross members on each end causing the water not to drain off. Poor design as for as draining the rain water off. I have some images I will share, if I have an opportunity to add images between sending these comments.
Thanks,
J *****, Covington, Ga

Unhappy customer

|

Bought this item last year. We loved it at the beginning except for the canopy. When it rains it sags in several places and we have to use a broom to dump the water off - which is a pain to do several times a day. The canopy only lasted one full summer season. During the middle of the second season the canopy ripped in several placed. Also, the frame rusted at all the joints. We order another canopy at $129.00! I don't recommend this product. There must be something better on the market.

Good Looking and Good Value

|

We bought our Pergola a year ago and used it all summer. Loved it. It looks good and was a great price, compared to what's out there. One word of caution, bolt it down. It is light, so if you don't bolt it down, it could get caught by the wind. We get a lot of wind, and the only thing we had to do was straighten it out once the wind died down. It will collect rain water, but it was easy to broom out from underneath and dries fast. Love the rods on each end which hold the cover in place and add shade if needed. You more than get what you pay for with this gem.

Pergola is nice with one HUGE flaw!

|

We purchased this pergola to replace a gazebo we purchased from ****** 5 years ago. I like this pergola and the frame is a pretty sturdy structure .... HOWEVER when it rains, the water pools in the canopy and creates a hot mess. We've tried bungie cords to make the canopy more taut, but the water still pools. So if you don't mind dealing with the water / canopy issue every time it rains, you will like this pergola. We went on vaca for a week and took the canopy off. Putting the canopy back on is pretty easy We plan on purchasing the replacement top when they become available.

A sucker born every minute

|

Looks pretty when the sun is shining! When it rains water collects where it is not braced and then sags and looks really trashy. To get the water off it we have to push the areas with a broom.Set up was fairly easy. it was scratched in several places and one of the ties on the material is torn and needs resewed.
Do not buy this.

the good and the harsh truth

|

We bought ths pergola three years ago and we loved it--sturdy frame, very classy, good shade. We still love it. I would have given it five stars except that last fall (second year of use) the cover tore and was no longer usable. That would have been no big deal except WE CAN'T GET A REPLACEMENT COVER. They've been "temporarily out of stock" ALL YEAR. So, we're trying to find a custom canvas designer in our area willing to make a replacement cover, but no luck so far. We may have to buy a whole new pergola just for the cover.
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you have a source to get a replacement cover when the original wears out.

Great pergola

|

Thanks for all the tips. I plan to use a grommet maker and place 4 to 5 holes that will not rip but also let water not pool anywhere on top. This will be a great cover for the summer

Excellent - with tips

|

I'm happy with the pergola--great product for the price! But I did have to address a few issues:
1. ASSEMBLY: First I didn't see how a curved iron joining plate could attach 2 flat crossbars--then I realized the curve flattens out as you tighten the screws. Assembly otherwise straightforward. I bolted it to a wood deck and it's held up in the wind.
2. RUST: Noticing complaints of rust, I thoroughly CAULKED EVERY SEAM with silicone window caulk--& it's working well. NO rust so far in 6 months. (During assembly, I noticed slight surface rust on unpainted interiors of bars and posts, but not a problem; the caulk seals everything nicely.)
3. CANOPY: I replaced the standard canopy with a sunscreen fabric that lets rain & some wind thru & devised a system to stretch it tight using electrical ties, grommets and bungee cords. Now it flaps less in the wind and there's no problem with rain.
With can-do attitude, common sense, and minimal handiness with tools, I think you'll make out great!
