same engine as cheap no name generators that cost hundreds less

I have no complaint about the generator other then the engine is made in an " unknown private overseas vender" (china??). Look at some pics, the gp5500 has the same engine found in all the cheap chinease generators that cost half as much.
I am really upset that i spent $780.00 w/tax for this generator from GENERAC! only to find out later its a cheap generator like a chicago, champion, homelite, other no name generators etc. I bought it because it was a generac and it was suppossed to be made with quality. For example using a known engine from briggs, tecumseh, suburu, honda or yamaha. I could have spent half the money and gotten the same product that was not hiding behind a name that used to be known for  quality.

I bought it in a time of need and had no time for research. Shame on me but I specifically bought the Generac and paid extra because i thought i could not go wrong with a generac generator.
When the engine needs fixing how do you get a part for it?

The carb is also a chinease cheapy. How do you get a carb kit if it gets gummed up? ( it happens all the time to carbs that sit idle).

Its like buying a stihl chainsaw only to find out you bought a poulan with a stihl sticker on it.

Awesome even for novice

|

Pretty easy to start with pull cord. Holds 5 gal gas, runs home furnace blower and lights for 12 hrs. (runs that plus neighbors 1500W space heater to heat their house in 12F weather for 8 hrs) Loud, as expected. Heavy: needs 2 strong people to load in truck. (assembled in freezing weather, by light of truck headlights, started right up. If I can do it so can you.)

Generac - the best

|

Just after Sandy hit, I ran to Sears to get back-up protection even though our power was still available. Sears was great at describing the product and it's capabilities. My electrician also told me to go with the best and that was Generac. I bought two of them - one for me and one for my in-laws in North Jersey. We took it up to them but before we got there we stopped at my sisters house who had no power for 2 days and ultimately 12 days overall - I left my unit with her. I left the other with my in-laws - who lent it to my brother-in-law who had no power for 15 days. Amazing - but both of the units ran well and efficiently. I left them the two and I'm going back to Sears to get another. Thanks Sears and Generac.

Heavy duty

|

I bought another brand and quickly returned it when I saw the Generac model. It is extremely well built and heavy duty. I used it during the hurricane power outage and performed flawlessly. Starts right up with no issues at all.
