Very nice generator but I wish it had the start/stop on the panel and a main circuit breaker . This would make it easier to remove the load prior to stating & stopping the engine. The location of the on/off or start/stop switch is less convienent than that of the GP3250. This surprises me that the lesser generator has two nicer, more desirable features. Nonetheless, a great generator with plenty of back up power for the home's necessities. After storing it away for about 4 months, I noticed the hour meter is stuck in a maintenece mode. unlike the newer 5500s, this one, last year's model, came with the hour meter that notifies you of oil changes & spark plug changes. For the past two hours of use, it is blinking "change plugs in 177 hours" OH WELL, I'LL GET A CHANCE TO RATE THE WARRANTY SERVICE LATER THIS WEEK. We'll see how smoothly that goes!! LOL!!
We purchased this product for home back-up but have found that it is great for running our electric leaf blower in areas where our extention cords wont reach as well as using it for camping. Back to the main reason we purchased it, it works great and runs my whole house.
I purchased this unit after Hurricane Sandy on other peoples reccommendations. It is simple to set up and operate. I tested it and it started on the first pull. I have a 30 amp line that goes inot 6 outlets. It is a great value for a great product.
We purchased this generator just before the storm. I was skeptical purchasing because it was not one of the "big name" brands. My fears were laid to rest. This machine ran day and night for 18 days straight and worked great! I am very pleased with this product and would definitely recommend this generator!
We were late in trying to purchase a generator for Hurricane Sandy. We lost power for ten days. For the first three days we were out of luck, until a friend got their electricity back and generously lent us their Generac 5500. This generator didn't let us down, and it ran very economically, too. We got between 12 and 14 hours per tank running the refrigerator, furnace, stove, coffee pot, microwave, phone system, security system, televisions, computers, and a few lights and other small conveniences. It started on one pull every time. I vowed I would have one of these before something like this could happen to us again. This winter we saved up and bought the same exact unit. It was easy to set up, and yes, it started on the first pull. Awesome machine! We love it!!
Following Hurricane Sandy I swore I'd never go without electrity again, and soon after this declaration I purchased a Generac GP5500. The market was still chaotic so I "settled" on the 5500 since I believed that a 5500 in my garage NOW was better than a 7500 sometime in the future, although I would later learn that the 5500 surpassed my needs. Set up was straight forward and didn't take long.I installed a transfer switch to my breaker box- the hardest part was selecting the six circuits that would receive backup power during an outage. Once complete I killed the main power and switched to generator power. The GP5500 easily ran 2 oil burners (1 heat, 1 hot water), a microwave, 2 refrigerators, 2 televisions, a desk top computer, and every light on the main floor of my house. I monitored the guage on the transfer switch to make sure I didn't over do it and the draw stayed right around 3000 watts but would briefly spike to about 4000 watts when the refrigerator's compressor kicked on. After six hours the fuel tank was still about half full, and I'd say the noise was about the same as lawn mower.A few months later Long Island was hit by a blizzard and I was able to test the machine for real, and I did learn something- store the generator as close to where you will run it as possible! I learned this after shoveling a path through 20+ inches of snow. A front opening deck box type storage container will be in my yard shortly. The peace of mind that you will get from OWNING a Generac generator is worth every penny of the purchase price, and USING the generator is like a dividend! I strongly reccommend this company's products.
Assembly was quite easy and started on third or fourth pull...
SETUP took 10 Minutes. Delvery sent smooth and warranty is great
I researched many brands and specifications and found this to be the best. The brand is well known and the price is right. I put this together myself, and being a female, I will be the one to start it up when it's time. I am confident in this product!
This generator has great features and the name back it up at a great price and the best warranty.
I have had no trouble with this generator at all. it starts on the first or second pull every time. i have used it 2 times so far and had no trouble with it. this generator looks and runs great!
In the area of Cape Cod where we live we are constantly losing power in the winter. I got this generator so my 85 year old mother would be comfortable at home during our recent storm. Nemo knocked out power for 3 days & we were happy with it's performance. TV, cable box, space heater and microwave were all used.
This is our 1st generator and we were so pleased with the quality, how quiet it is, and how easy to start. very pleased and would recommend this product to friends
This is an outstanding product. Having said that, if there is one component missing it is the inability to determine (short of longhand) how much wattage you are using. Other than that, it is a fantastic piece of equipment.
This is the second Generac 5500 I have purchased. The first was for a cousin in Rockaway, NY after Sandy. We used it for tools during the day and back up power at night. Fater power was restored to his house, the neighbors are using it while they restore their homes.I bought another for my own back up needs after seeing how durable this one was.
Assembly instruction are complete and straight foward (easily understood). Starting is easy and has only required at the most two pulls of the starter cord. Noise levels are acceptable, considering this is an internal combustion engine.
the generac is a great product. the price was good. keep up the good work.great company.
Bought this for Winter storm Nemo, had it ready to go, and never lost power! I hope I never have to start it, but if I do I know I will be ready, and my well, heat and lights will be on.
Bought this when the power went out during Hurricane Sandy (one for my father, too). Pretty easy to set up, and fired on first pull of the cord. Kept our lights on and food cold. Would recommend highly!
Easy to start, solid and reliable. Ran for days during Sandy. Was able to do laundry, have hot water and has many lights as needed. Kept two refrigerators and freezer running and kept from losing lots of food.
Instructions and setup documents need work, but this product is a great value for the money.
