The Kenmore 12,000 BTU Air Conditioner is quiet and powerful.

We didn't know which air conditioner to get when our central air went out and the air conditioner repair man couldn't come out for two days.  So, I researched **************** and found out that Kenmore is the most recommended brand.  Then, I tried to find the highest btu's that would still take a 110 plug so that I would not need an electrician to come out and do any wiring.  This model was the one we found.  It cooled our 2000 sq foot home quickly.  I am sure it is not designed to cool a house this large.  However, we are using it that way until our central unit gets fixed.  Also, it is right next to our TV in our living room and there is very little noise.  Finally, there was no hassle in installing it.  It has a 10.4 seer which makes it very energy efficient.  The higher the seer number the more energy efficent it is.  It is an energy star model.  It says that it will cost $89 per year to run.  That is probably not correct the way that we are currently using it to try to cool our whole house instead of just one room.  However, when compared to other models, it was one of the most energy efficient models out there.  12,000 BTU is as high as you are going to get with a 110 plug  and not having to call an electrician, so if you are looking to cool your house with an energy efficient quiet air conditioner, buy this model!!!  115  and 220 plugs will require an electrician if you don't know much about this kind of stuff.  I wish someone else could have provided this much information in a review so I am hoping my review helps you if you are in a bind like we were.

Kenmore Products are Going Downhill.

It was HOT yesterday August 16.  We have an 825 sq. ft. house: 3 bedrooms, kitchen, hall, livingroom, and one bath.  We had an Amana AC 12k BTU: It lasted 11 years; and cooled all rooms to COLD at night and SUPER COOL in the blistering heat of the day (in Rialto CA, we have blistering heat!).  We replaced it with a Hampton Bay 10k BTU which cooled to cold just as great since 1994 and died last week!  We replaced it this Kenmore 12kBTU.  They say it will cool 600 and something square feet... NOT TRUE!  My whole house is just 825 sq ft. this Kenmore unit # 70121 just keeps the living room cool enough, and the rest of the rooms we had to use fans (3of them) to push the cooler air down the hall to the bedrooms, using one of them to push cool air into the kitchen (and its connected to the living room straight across from the Kenmore AC, about 17 feet away!).  It does not really "condition" the air; if its muggy outside then you feel a little clammy or sweaty inside the house.  Its says "cool cool cool" on the box; but it cools like a swamp cooler.  Its a little loud.  NOT what I expeced to get from a 12k BTU. You can't adjust the blower vents the direction YOU want them because of the stupid design (our previous AC's were easy and convenient to adjust).  Buy this unit if your wanting to cool no larger than a small living room (say 15x15 ) and if you don't mind still feeling a little "sweaty" if its hotter than 98 degrees outside.  I'm pretty sure we will be taking this thing back.  I will never buy another Kenmore AC because its just like their washing machines; they went "down hill" too.

Cools good, BUT will not drain

My Kenmore 12,000 BTU was manufactured in 2004. It cools good but the front of the air conditioner where the coils can be seen has water that forms and stays there all the time.It also forms behind the cooling coils and as a result all inside the compartment where the fan is, is full of mildew and possibly mold as well. I thought the problem was that the drain hole in the rear was not all the way at the back like previous window units, which allows a lot of water to be standing in the far back of the unit, but that is not the problem because the front section is sealed off from the rear section. So the problem is that there is NO WATER DRAINAGE from the front of the unit.Because of this problem we are tossing the unit and buying a new one, but it WILL NOT be a Kenmore or Frigidaire which is the very same design and probably the same in every way.

Kenmore 12k BTU Air Conditioner

Works great, but the ambient noise level is quite high which can be annoying.

Put It In The Window & Turn It On!

I LOVE this a/c!! I needed to replace my old one in a hurry because I can't take the heat and I found this one at Sears.com. It was the only one with really good reviews in my price range. I ordered it, picked it up about 1/2 hr. later and brought it home. I opened the box and was ecstatic to find out there was NOTHING to put together. NO TOOLS REQUIRED! YAY! All I had to do was slide the side panels in and put it in the window. This thing cooled my entire apartment in minutes. It really puts out the cold air. It is a tad noisy, but not enough that I mind it at all. The timer comes in VERY handy. I can leave it off all day and set it to go on 1/2 hr. before I come home from work. When I walk in, the apartment is good & chilly. It's even smaller than the 10,000 BTU unit that I replaced. I would highly recommend this a/c.

Energy/money saver!

This unit has saved me hundreds of dollars in energy bills over the summer (Delaware) compared to my old 10,000btu Kenmore (which was also an energy star). it is not vey loud and cools off a large room nicely. Took off one star because the eco mode does not do a good job of maintaining temperature.

Kenmore Room Air Conditioner Cools The Room

Replaced an old room air conditioner with the smaller, quieter, energy efficient model.  What a difference!  Cools the entire room.  We use the Energy Saver option on a regular basis.  This model seems as quiet if not quieter than other models (I have yet to find a truly quiet room air conditioner.)  Appreciate the timer option.  Recommend this brand and model.

Kenmore 12,000 BTU Room Air Condioner Really Cools

We replaced a 9 year old unit that barely covered the den it was in. The Kenmore 12,000 BTU cools not only the den, but the connected open kitchen and dining area. We've had a hot spell in Alabama, and yet keeping it on 77 degrees can sometimes be chilly and we have to turn off the ceiling fan. Plus, it's so quiet. Don't even know it's there. Thumbs way up!

cooler now

Previous 10k kenmore only lasted 4 years, but bought this one, sad that Sears does not give Military service members discounts, but that is different issue. The unit is low vibration and reasonable in a large room, ours is 29x19 keeps it nice and cool with the help of a fan to help circulate the air a bit more. remote is nice so far happy with. hoping it won't die...

Excellent buy for a hot room!

Our living room faces west, and in the triple-digit summers of Oklahoma the central air just can't keep the room cool. Never having a window unit before, I was concerned about securitysince the unit faces a main street. After installation this concern went away because the unit has multiple security designs. We keep it on the "energy saver" "auto" mode, and it cycles on once an hour or so for about 5 to 10 minutes. The room temp is now perfect. Noise is not an issue, and the bottom line is that this was WELL worth the money. I'm a little worried about uninstalling the unit for winter, but I'll take the security designs over easy uninstall any day.
