Great Freezer

We love it, great value, great product. The noise which a lot of people are complaining about comes from not letting the unit sit for 12-24 hours before plugging it in. During the delivery, tilting around to get it out of the box and moving it into the house, some of the refrigerant migrates. Just let the freezer sit once it is leveled and the refrigerant will settle back where it is suppose to be. The whistle is from a pressure equalization valve which compensates for the difference between the dense cold air in the unit and the warm air in the room when the door is opened.

Freezes well, but the noise is terrible.

We bought this freezer 5 months ago, and the odd noise started on day one. I called Sears and they insisted that it was normal. I lived with it for a month or so, and then I called and complained that it was getting worse, but again they insisted that nothing was wrong. I finally convinced them to send out a service tech, but he could not find anything wrong. I played a video of the noise for him, but that was not enough. When I called Sears again and suggested that I return the unit, they started talking about a re-stock fee, (after all, it's over 4 months old!) I reminded the customer solutions rep that I would have been dealing with this just days after the sale if they had just sent out a repairman when I first complained. She wanted to know why I hadn't contacted the store in the first place. Well I did call the store and I thought I was dealing with the store, but the phone system shuttles you off to the service center. I guess I was supposed to load it in the truck and dump it on their doorstep?

I've seen another repairman who adjusted the fan (no help) and another is due in a few days. They want to document a pattern before they will do anything more for me. Is it too much to ask for a freezer that doesn't sound like a wounded animal?

Could have been easily made into a 5 star

I read all the reviews, went to Sears, asked that floor model be plugged in, because some owners posted that the freezer is loud. Decided to purchase it, and after 3 days of quiet, the madness started. The fan housed inside the back panel kicks in and causes the METAL panel to vibrate VERY loudly. This happens several times an hour, all day, every day, and if you are anywhere within 50 ft of it, you will want to shoot it. The annoyance level only grows with each passing day.Had the inside back panel been better secured, the freezer would be perfect. Runs cheaply, has loads of space, and perfect depth. So I removed plastic air flow grill, stuck on felt pads to cushion it, and reattached. Placed wood dowel, cut to the depth of the freezer including the door, on top shelf so when door is closed, it pushes the back panel in to help keep from vibrating.Should not have to rig a new appliance. Kenmore should fix this before selling any others,or don't deserve to sell any. Careless.

It is too loud like other reviews say.

I should have trusted the reviews which said the motor is too loud. I bought it 3 days ago. I thought it was a very good deal. Perfect size and design for me. I put it in the garage, but for the past 3 days. I can hear the motor running all day in the house, in the living room, and even on the 2nd floor. It bothers me a lot. I have a much bigger size fridge in the kitchen which doesn't make any noise at all. For the long run, I should get a better one. Now I am thinking to return it within 30 days. It is troublesome for me to return and shop another one. Too bad it doesn't go well.

Inconsistent

The temperature fluctuates greatly. One day it is below zero, the next it is 20 degrees. If I could take it back I would.

Good size.

Like the size, but could be more efficient in energy use. Runs quite often to keep temperature right. Could use more insulation.

Conked out after 2 1/2 years

This is a frost free freezer that is a bargain model at a great price if the unit actually worked for more than 2 1/2 years. Do not buy this hunk of junk. The compressor works way too hard and the unit conked out (quick working) in 2 1/2 years. So this unit is no bargain. Don't waste your time, money, and lose all of your food.

Motor is very loud

This is the third freezer we have purchased in the last 10 years as our family has grown. We thought an upright freezer would serve better in our kitchen then the smaller chest freezer we were currently using. It fits well in our space and I really like the pocket handle for our limited space. The biggest problem is that the motor is extremely noisy and runs more often then I expected. The book says that new compressor motors are louder but this seems extreme considering we also have much larger chest freezer whose motor is not near as loud. I am very concerned that the motor will not last.

So far So good

Freezer is a nice size and does not take up too much room. Keeps a constant temp - We started the dial @ 4 and the freezer kept a contstant 0 degree. We raised it to 3 and it now keeps a contstant 10 below. My only problem is that there is no outside light to let you know the freezer in on
