RELIEF FROM HOUSTON HEAT & HUMIDITY

I purchased this unit to replace a 14-year old AirTemp unit in a 625 sq. foot addition on my home. The addition was built in '72 and has HUGE windows and is a huge energy monster. I had my personal handyman install it on 6/28/12. I am very pleased so far. The only cons I have at this time are 1) it is heavy and takes 2 people or a really strong guy to install 2) Controls are a little vague - make sure you read the instructions 3) Air flow vents don't seem to move around very much 4) I have a little rattle when it is on -I am sure this is just a little rattle due to our installation - I don't mind the general sound of an A/C. The pros 1) My addition is cool in this oppresive Houston heat and humidity 2) I LOVE the EnergySaver feature that cycles the unit on an off - I'll have to see what my electric bill is. All in all, this was much less expensive than my 1998 AirTemp A/C Heat unit (I dont' really need a heater down here) and I am very pleased with the available functions on this unit.

Fails 2 Months out of Warranty

We have a small frame house so this A/C was installed in a 10'x10' room to also help with the adjoined kitchen. It is pretty heavy but not as much as others I have installed which is important because this thing's bottom edge is over 5' off the ground. So we install it last spring it tools along until just this September and the compressor freezes. I call "Christine" somewhere in India and she blithely informs me the warranty went out in June. Figures. I am so tired of spending hundreds of dollars on disposable appliances (refrigerator went out in two years) and now this lasts just long enough to get out of its short warranty. We're done...no more Kenmore or any of its "camouflaged" brands. Facebook is going to hear about this as well. I figure at least some of my 300 friends will heed the warning.

great product

|

In my opinion, the Kenmore 18,500 btu air conditioner is overpriced. However, it does work very well. It cools my entire downstairs level. I love that my kids are able to enjoy the air on a hot day. Besides the price, the only downside is that you basically have to take it apart to put it together. Also, the plug is not a regular plug that plugs in the wall, we had to get a special hook up to use it to plug it in. I wish the salesman would have told us before hand. But, no complaints. works great

Wonderful Air Conditioner

|

This is the second one I bought in a year, I bought my son one last year, and was so impressed by how well it worked and the efficiency I just bought another yesterday, when my husband put the batteries in the thermostat on the remote said the room was 92 degrees ( this is a third floor full attic) with in an hour we were adjusting the temperature higher, it went from 92 degrees to 70! The remote has everything on it also. It does take a little time to put cabinet together, but, my husband has done both and said, it's worth it! :)

Does a Great job

|

Had the old one out and this one in and running in about 2hrs. Would have been faster but, the directions didn't specify exactly what screws went where, had to change a few of them around. Other than that fairly easy to install. Works Great, the house was cool in about 2hrs.

bought to cool a 1200 square foot garage

|

We bought this as a returned item, showing damage to the rear of the cabinet. It has worked well, with no problems. It cools the garage (which is well insulated) easily.

room air conditioner

|

not as powerful as the old one it replaced I guess because of the different refrigerant seems to run more to keep cool . also feel that the price could have been a little cheaper,or at least on a bigger sale.

Broken within several months

|

The air conditioner broke within several months. They replaced it, but how long will the new one last. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Kenmore 18,500 A/C

|

Naturally during one of the hottest days of one of the hottest summers on record in the midwest is the time for the A/C to fail. Buying a Sears Product was the best solution for the situation. The tenant was anxious to have some relief. Installation was somewhat confusing since the instructions covered 2 or 3 models but within an hour the failed unit was replaced with a quiet cooling machine. Very happy with the purchase and good folks to deal with.
