Kenmore 18,500 BTU Room Air Conditioner

I recently purchased this item and am very pleased with it's performance. I use this unit to cool off multiple rooms on the first floor of my home and it has done quite a job. It is also very quiet compared to my old air conditioner. Everything from the sales person to the installation team went very well and professionally. Recommended. A++

Unit arrived defective - Sears is useless at resolving issues

The unit was reccevied defective.

It took over 3 weeks and 15 hours of my personal time on the phone with inept Sears reps to arrange a return / refund - they have no ability to fix a problem - only go by the book even when someone's health is at risk.

This unit was for my 80 yer old mother who suffered for a week in the middle of 100 degree heated summer time, and they absolutely would not budge to arrange an immediate exchange - within 10 business days was their response.

If you ever have a problem, calling the "executive complaint line" with a stated turn around time of 1 hour will result in a callback within a week.

Sears and Kmart is no longer a vendor anyone in my family or circle of friends will ever use again.

Great job Sears - at least you gave me the oppurtunity to voice my opinion publicly.

Broken within several months

The air conditioner broke within several months. They replaced it, but how long will the new one last. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Kenmore 18,500 A/C

Naturally during one of the hottest days of one of the hottest summers on record in the midwest is the time for the A/C to fail. Buying a Sears Product was the best solution for the situation. The tenant was anxious to have some relief. Installation was somewhat confusing since the instructions covered 2 or 3 models but within an hour the failed unit was replaced with a quiet cooling machine. Very happy with the purchase and good folks to deal with.

RELIEF FROM HOUSTON HEAT & HUMIDITY

I purchased this unit to replace a 14-year old AirTemp unit in a 625 sq. foot addition on my home. The addition was built in '72 and has HUGE windows and is a huge energy monster. I had my personal handyman install it on 6/28/12. I am very pleased so far. The only cons I have at this time are 1) it is heavy and takes 2 people or a really strong guy to install 2) Controls are a little vague - make sure you read the instructions 3) Air flow vents don't seem to move around very much 4) I have a little rattle when it is on -I am sure this is just a little rattle due to our installation - I don't mind the general sound of an A/C. The pros 1) My addition is cool in this oppresive Houston heat and humidity 2) I LOVE the EnergySaver feature that cycles the unit on an off - I'll have to see what my electric bill is. All in all, this was much less expensive than my 1998 AirTemp A/C Heat unit (I dont' really need a heater down here) and I am very pleased with the available functions on this unit.

Kenmore 18,500 BTU Air Conditioner saved us from a sweaty summer

Right before we left for vacation summer of 2011 our window unit quit on us and we took it in to be repaired. When we got back from vacation, the repair man still hadn't looked at our a/c so we purchased this and the Kenmore 10,000 unit to get us by while ours was in the shop. I am a stay-at-home mother of 2 at the time and it was the end of July in Kansas. (The hottest time of year) With 2 small children, we had to do something quick. This was a great investment and worked wonderfully for us for the rest of summer. This particular unit had a remote with a sensor in it that could sense the temperature across the room and therefore actually worked better at keeping the whole room cool. I would get a Kenmore again if needed.

gouged on installation, do not like unit

I believe that I was gouged on the installation which cost almost as much as the unit; existing window and electrical all they had to do was cut a piece of plywood and caulk it.

The unit is only good on low, the energy save feature sucks, and the directional louvres suck.

Not happy. Sorry I spent the money. Sears service was useless when it came to making me a happy customer. Never again!

The Kenmore 18,500 BTU Room Air Conditioner is quiet and powerfu

I love my new air conditioner. It is quiet and cools quickly and well. The thermostat keeps it within 5 degrees of the temperature that I set i t for. And the energy Saver option is awesome. It works like a central a/c unit that just happens to be in a window! It shuts off when it reaches the selected temperature. And comes on again every 10 minutes or so for a few minutes to keep it close to that temperature. We no longer come home to a hot house!!

This Kenmore 18,500 BTU AC cools large space quickly!

We have only had this AC for about 3 weeks. So far it has worked Great. I love that we can set the temp and leave the house. When we come home, the house is comfortable. It is very powerful. We are very happy with this purchase. The only thing that concerns me is all the electronics. I know it could be costly if we ever needed to repair it down the road.

GREAT DEAL

I along with many others had to replace our window units this summer. with tempertures over 110 for couple of months it just wore them out. I had to replace mine and went shopping to find very few left in stock. this is the one i chose and i am very happy with the purchase. i have open living room and dinning room with breakfast bar between and all these rooms are cool. if i leave the bedroom doors open i may need to run a smaller unit for assistance while the heat continues in oklahoma !! over all these is the best unit i have owned..

Kenmore air conditioner is quiet and cools the room quickly.

Purchased the Kenmore 18,500 BTU air conditioner on line; it was an easy process. When we went to pick it up the attendant helped me to complete the check out process, retrieved the item and helped us to load it on the truck in less than 5 minutes, as promised. It was a very positive experience and a great buy.

This air conditioner is under rated!

Being that it uses a 240V it surprises me that it does not use much electricity. And this air conditioner uses 410 refrigerant, which condenses much faster and colder than R-134a. The blower on this thing pushes some air! I have this and the previous model right before this. This is a much more powerful blower fan, and the air coming out is much colder. You will need 2 people to easily install the unit. it has some weight. I suggest you do what I did, I put R-39 around the outside part of my air conditioner this 2nd year and silicone the rest in the inside to seal it of, because its too heavy to be moving back in forth! Last year some sucker bought it back because it was 240V so i got this unit for $250.00! recently the humidity was in the 90% and the temperature was 99F with the heat index triple digit. So i left the door open until my 1rst floor got to about 90 degrees. Then 1 hour later, after i turned this bad boy on, 75. The air that comes out is very, very cold, i wish my truck used this new type of refrigerant. but yeah, get this if u can swing it, and folks, my brother has the frigidaire version, looks exactly the same, and rated exactly the same except his uses 120V, but the fan on that version sucks, and this blows out colder. Even though it has the same 410 Refr. So Get this as Kenmore has done their home work! I suggest drilling a hole for the water to drain out while the unit is out of the try!

Kenmore 18,500 BTU Air Conditioner

I just purchased this 18,500 BTU Kenmore Air Conditioner to replace my old Kenmore 18,500 one. WOW !!! What a difference. The air circulation is great. I can feel it all the way in the other rooms. It is much quieter then my old one also. It took awhile to get use to the way it turns on and tests the air and then shuts down and if needed turns back on and stays on. But I am use to it now. Very attractive because my old one was a dark brown color. I love the remote that comes with this one too. So nice to be able to change settings without actually going to the unit.

I am disappointed in the Kenmore 230V room air conditioner.

This air conditioner doesn't cool as well as my old one that had less btu's.The left air vent can not be directed down because of a lever that's placed in the way, a styling defect. Also the directions could have been clearer with pictures.

Kenmore 18,500 BTU 230V Room Air Conditioner

We just had this unit installed almost one month ago and we absolutely luv this air conditioning unit! It's quiet and boy....does it cool huge spaces quickly!! We luv the energy saver feature and remote conrol. So far we luv it. A word to the wise....if you can afford the installation have it installed rather than to try to do it yourself. This is an extremely heavy unit and to do it yourself would be an all day project!!
