If you get stuck with this machine fix THIS nut immediately

We received this as a housewarming gift from my in-laws. I really wish we hadn't. I don't like most of the features, it unbalances easily and you have to start over, and it is noisy. Well, one month out of warranty, it started making a horrible ratchet-y noise. I couldn't find the problem. Corporate said usually internal parts have a longer warranty- but not on my washer. all they would offer is for me to shell out $238 for a service smart agreement. While waiting for them to call back, I had a local company come out to tell me what was wrong. There is a nut on the bottom (under the plastic cover), that has no locking mechanism. It's a moving part that will come loose. PUT SOME LOCKTITE thread compound on it when you get the washer home. This is a manufacturing problem since they don't put it on when making it. It will prevent the belt from slipping and eating into the plastic safety cover.

Aggravation

|

Lasted only 2.25 years. Wow. Never abused it. The machine will not go from one cycle to the next after just a little over two years of use. I am close to retirement age, this was only my third machine. My last two machines washed HARD for me I had 5 children and used cloth diapers. Got THIS machine after kids grown and gone, hardly any use, and it's already defunct. WOW. It had nothing to do with misuse. Just designed to fail after warranty expires.

Worst washer ever

|

Thank god We bought the extended warranty,Two years after we bought it we had to replace the computer the transmission and hood latch and as i sit here the repair guy is trying to get it to go thru its cycles to no avail. The repair guy said these are all common and tend to repeat themselves,so we'll probably have to do this again unless we replace this with a different washer.

|

I purchased this contraption one month ago and am so sorry. It is very noisy, the clothes come out wrinkled, it takes so very long for it to wash a load (small or large), I do not like that I can't open the lid without permission from the machine. All in all it is a louse machine. I'm giving it away!!!

2.5 years old and doesn't work

|

spin cycle stopped working. spend $170 on repairs and as soon as the repairman left it stopped working again. now I have to wait another week to get him back. I was happy with this machine, but am beginning to wonder. I only do 2-3 loads a week, so this shouldn't happen.

Horrible piece of junk

|

I bought this washer 2 1/2 years ago. On average I wash 3 loads a week. The lights on the washer started flashing and the spin cycle made a loud noise. I called a repair shop and they said my transmission was shot and $300 plus to fix. Really 2 years old and I need a new washer. What a piece of garbage!!! Would not recommend.

Here's a tip to eliminate lid locking frustration

|

We've owned this washer for over a year and agree with most negative reviews: noisy / tries to rebalance clothes by refilling with water repeatedly / locking lid is frustrating. Would not purchase again.

TIP - Understanding that the lid locks to prevent injury during high speed spins, there is a way to bypass this. Remove the latch from the washer lid and bend the screw tabs up into the lip around the lid edge. Since the latch is magnetic, and the washer will not run without the latch in place; you must then glue (a dab of silicone at each screw hole works well) the latch into place on the body of the washer. Now you can open the lid anytime during a wash cycle. The latch may come unglued over time - you can either re-glue it, or just leave it loose in place BEING CAREFUL NOT TO LET IT DROP INTO THE WASHER OR LOSE IT.

NOT AS SIMPLE AS IT SEEMS!!!

|

this machine seemed very straigh forward, not the case at all. the pause/unlock lid button is the most anoying feature on this machine. To start the cycle you must lock the lid, once that is done there is no turning back. The rinse cycle is a nigtmare, the downy ball that you drop in doesn't release the downy leaving the clothes very hard. If you want to add downy, you have to basically stop the enire cycle to unlock the machine and add downy, then instead of picking up where it left off, it restarts the entire cycle all over again. Making a 25 minute wash take literally 1 HOUR!!! Wouldn't recommend this machine to my worst enemy. OHH, and not mention the horrible service at the cross county mall sears, wouldn't buy any large appliance there again.

Where's the warm water????????

|

This is the first time EVER that an appliance, a major one at that, didn't work completely right out of the box.
1. The warm water sensor must be on the blink because I've managed to get warm water ONLY for about 2 seconds for 4 loads of laundry.
2. Do not wash anything heavier than 4 pairs of jeans or 5-6 towels.... I'm guessing at that because I tried to wash one light blanket by itself ..in cold water....but had to take it out during the spin cycle. I was afraid the washer was going to fly away or flop over.
The dials are a breeze BUT HATE THE DANG LOCKING LID!!!!!
A family member bought this for me. They live over 150 miles away and so now comes the fun part. Getting this washer fixed. The one we replaced was over 20 years old....and it still worked....right.
We bought the matching dryer and that does a good job.

GARBAGE

|

Bought this in late 2011. I absolutely detest this machine! Takes almost one hour to wash clothes on regular cycle and does a horrible job no matter which cycle you have it on. I am reduced to putting very small loads in to get them clean, and that's even debatable. Whites are no longer white. Took work shirt out of wash and it actually has rolls in the material where you can see what is clean and which part of the shirt didn't get aggitated. I want HOT water. Hot water is cold. Warm water is cold. Does not matter how many times I put the machine on "clean machine" our clothes still have a slight funky smell to them. Cannot open the lid to see what is going on in there. I have strategically placed certain items in the wash and interrupted the cycle to look inside. Nothing is moving. It sometimes grinds and groans. It sometimes misses the wash cycle or spin cycle. Wash cycle, on heavy duty, on last for about one minute of agitation and the 30 minutes soak. I know that this isn't one of their super exspensive lines, but for the love of all that is holy, it should work!!! Repair man coming out again to take a peek at it. They've been out once already because it was making a horrible grinding noise, for which they could find nothing wrong. Recorded it on phone this time. NOT HAPPY and get angry when folding clothes. Thinking of going to ********** for next purchase.....which will be very soon if I don't get some answers from Sears.

Very quiet

|

This is a nice basic top load washer. I am retired with limited income so wanted a good working machine, no frills and that's what this is. I shopped on line 3 days before purchasing at a Sears store where this washer was on sale for less than what I had found on the internet and the same model as what I thought I wanted. I was surprised by how quiet this machine is. The cycles are longer than my last machine which was manufactured in 2001, so it takes longer to do a load but that is the only downside I have found after using this machine for 3 weeks. So far I am more than pleased with this machine.

Don't purchase this

|

I've had this washer for less than two years. Thirty one days after my warranty ran out the spin cycle stopped working. I got the matching set (washer and dryer) and wanted to keep using this so I paid $100 for a new part (this wasn't through Sears it was through a friend that works for another appliance company - if I had went through Sears the part would have cost $399 which is what I paid for the washer). Not even a month after the part was replaced it stopped working again. If you're looking for a washer that you can put five light weight items in to wash this is good to use. If you plan on washing an actual load of laundry, DO NOT make this purchase. I am currently replacing this with a new washer. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Sucks

|

This machine right from the moment we had it delivered gave us nothing but problems, my clothes would get spot on them randomly like some one had previously owed it and filled it with veggie oil or something, my clothes got ripped in the spin cycle. The clothes started smelling and my towels especially so i bought that washer machine cleaner the smell was always there. it was so gross then the **** machine just fills up and doesnt even spin now so the water just sits in the tub and i had to by hand drain the water not even the cycle would come on and conveniently after the warranty expired. what a joke this machine is and we went out of our way to make sure we bought a reputable name brand, guess even kenmore doesnt give a **** about their products anymore.DON'T BUY THIS YOU MIGHT AS WELL THROW YOUR MONEY IN THE GARBAGE AND YOUR CLOTHES INTO THE STREET

|

Service man had to be called, making grinding noise, ratchet noise, and still slow. Sears service man told me he works on these all the time, and this is what he did to my 1 year old machine. Replaced the actuator, belt, and put lock tight on the nut holding the pulley to the motor, and tightened the nut full tight. It had worked loose, not as bad as some he told me. The plastic cover had some belt residue on it from the belt slipping. The actuator was not fully engaging and had the ratchet sound I heard. The grinding noise was also from the actuator and belt assembly pulley gear slipping. Great for a less than one year old machine. Runs fine now, still takes too long to wash a load. In looking under the machine, its cheap, low quality and Sears should look into dropping this line. Its still JUNK. Only time will tell if I get my money's worth. Do yourself a favor and buy another machine, even a Kenmore, but a better model. Right now, I would give it a very low ONE STAR.

Stay away from this product. the worst. zero stars

|

I hate everything about this washer. I hate that you can't just open the lid at any cycle to check on clothes. I hate that using the fabric softener cycle adds like another 10-15 min to my wash; depending how big the load. I hate that it takes FOREVER for the water to come out. I hate that in reference to time; it takes forever to wash my clothes. Worst purchase ever! I hate that I couldn't return this product. I have been trying to sell this washing machine for 1 year now. And, have had no takers. People read reviews about this model and maker and stay away. I really can't even give it away. I will use it till it dies and then put it out to the curb. I hope soon. AWFUL

Shame on Kenmore

|

The absolute worst machine I have ever dealt with - unbalances with almost every load, wash cycle takes at least 45 minutes, just a terrible machine - SHAME ON YOU KENMORE! Absolute garbage.
Money would have been better spent fixing the old 15 year old Maytag washer.

buyers remorse!

|

After the first week the pulley nut came loose. Service guy ended up changing a bunch of parts that were tore up from it coming loose. About 4 months later the Shift Actuator failed. BTW it's part# W10006355. Week after the warranty was over had to replace second actuator. I'm now on the third replacement actuator. As far as washing it does a good job but does take well over an hour per load. Sometimes 5 or 6 hours if you don't to check on it and it forgets what it was doing. If you enjoy a good challenge then this is the machine for you. If you just want to wash clothes then I recommend NOT buying this machine.

WHAT A JOKE WORST MACHINE EVER !!! DESERVES NO STARS

|

WOULD GIVE IT NO STARS IF IT WOULD LET ME.

Purchased May 2012, to replace a Kenmore washer, but, just called the service department. Couldn't even go a year without a problem The machine makes a ratchet noise on all cycles. Previous review had same problems. Machine is very slow, unbalances all the time, over an hour to wash clothes. The locking lid is the worst invention ever. Soap remains on clothes after rinsing and putting fabric softener in the dispenser is just no good. It does not empty, and drips on clothes. I WOULD NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN, OR ANY IN THE LINE. Sears has dropped the ball on this washer. VERY POOR QUALITY CONTROL. I will never buy a Kenmore again. Have owned several, and this is the worst ever. The sales person should have known more about the product, he could not or did not know much about the machine.
Look around before you buy, ******, **********, ********, ********, all have better products than this Kenmore peice of JUNK..

Huge disappointment!

|

I will never buy another Kenmore washer, or any Sears Kenmore appliance again! I have had this washer for 2 years and it has given me nothing but problems. It becomes unbalanced even with the smallest of loads. You cannot use the downy ball with it at all either. It also takes forever to wash a load of clothes. Now, the spin cycle is so loud that I have shut the laundry room doors. It is a shame to spend so much money on junk, Sears will NOT stand behind their products. My advice is go to ********** and shop there. I had a Whirlpool for 10 years and NO issues.
