Kenmore 5.1cf Upright Freezer is perfect!

Small footprint, quiet, plenty of space, easy access to items, what's not to like?!!!  Seriously, we wanted more space than our side-by-side freezer/fridge could give us, but mainly to stock up on frozen specials now and then - only 2 in our household.  If you have a similar situation, this was reasonably priced and has no downside.

Coolant disappeared in a month - lost $250 worth of food

I guess I got a lemon. The experienced Sears repairman was just here and he said it looks like all the coolant (freon) leaked out and caused the freezer to thaw out and ruin a bunch of food. He said the design was old school because the coolant lines are actually part of the shelves and possibly the weight of the food on the shelves "cracked" a line somewhere and let the coolant escape. I don't think it's a good design to leave the coolant lines accessible to the user. And making them a weight bearing part of the freezer seems at odds with common sense. But he said his old freezer is designed that way and has worked for years. Oh well, Sears said they would replace it and possibly reimburse me for the lost food. Also, the repairman couldn't figure out from the serial number who actually manufactured this model, he said it was a mystery to him but certainly it wasn't a Whirlpool, LG, GE, etc. I don't think I'll be getting this model/design again....

Just the right size

When we moved to ND, and got all settled in, we realized we needed a small freezer. I checked out Sears online and found the perfit size! It was a upright Kenmore 5.1. It is easy to see what you have in it, you don't have to dig around in it like you would a chest freezer. I can see everything we have! I highly recommend this freezer. Nice thing of it is when we retire, we will be able to put this in our 5th wheel!!! Great value for the price!

Perfect Size

Fit perfectly after taking out laundry tub. When short on space, you have to set priorities! After plugging in, it was cold enough to put ice cream in within a few hours.

Interior smaller than you think

I've had the machine for over a year so I think I can give it a good review. I've had no problems with the machine but the interior capacity is actually smaller than you think. The top shelf is useless. It isn't very deep so it hold less. I gave it 4 stars (good rating) because I've had no mechanical problems in over a year which speaks for itself. Just pointing out that it doesn't have a large capacity.

Died in it's 26th month

Came back from Thanksgiving away to find freezer had apparently died not long after we left for trip. We had about $400 worth of food, including two Omaha Steak shipments, in it. Not happy.

Has worked perfectly for 2 years

I'm in a senior apartment with a small kitchen. This fits perfectly in a small closet in the dining area--out of sight. For one or two people this is great. Keeps food frozen rock-solid for months.

GREAT UPRIGHT FREEZER

This little freezer fits next to a regular frig with ease. I needed it when I kept losing things in my chest freezer. This helps me be more organized especially when my little garden goes crazy.

When we opened the box the freezer had a cornet dented but the freezer still worked so we kept it. So far it works great.
