Kenmore 5.1cf Upright Freezer is perfect!

Small footprint, quiet, plenty of space, easy access to items, what's not to like?!!!  Seriously, we wanted more space than our side-by-side freezer/fridge could give us, but mainly to stock up on frozen specials now and then - only 2 in our household.  If you have a similar situation, this was reasonably priced and has no downside.

Coolant disappeared in a month - lost $250 worth of food

I guess I got a lemon. The experienced Sears repairman was just here and he said it looks like all the coolant (freon) leaked out and caused the freezer to thaw out and ruin a bunch of food. He said the design was old school because the coolant lines are actually part of the shelves and possibly the weight of the food on the shelves "cracked" a line somewhere and let the coolant escape. I don't think it's a good design to leave the coolant lines accessible to the user. And making them a weight bearing part of the freezer seems at odds with common sense. But he said his old freezer is designed that way and has worked for years. Oh well, Sears said they would replace it and possibly reimburse me for the lost food. Also, the repairman couldn't figure out from the serial number who actually manufactured this model, he said it was a mystery to him but certainly it wasn't a Whirlpool, LG, GE, etc. I don't think I'll be getting this model/design again....

Excellent small freezer for my needs.

As a single person I don't need a gigantic freezer, but needed something to augment the freezer compartment in the refrigerator I do have. And now I have one. Perfect size and my ice cream remains hard, not semi-soft as a bonus.

Stops working

|

I bought this freezer cause I needed more space for food. After only 1 month I opened the freezer to find that it had stopped working. Called Sears up and they sent out a repair man which was two weeks later, he looked at it and said that the thermostat had gone in it. OK two weeks after that he came back to put in the new one. Great problem fixed... Now two and a half weeks later open the freezer again to find that it has stopped working again. Needless to say I will never buy this one again it's terrible.

Upright freezer

|

I bought this freezer 2 weeks ago, everything so far is working great. the only drawback I found was when we loss power for about 6hrs and that evening we found a significant puddle of water on the floor, I thought that this type of freezer would have a container to hold water in this situation and not just drip to the floor. So keep caution where you place your unit, you don't want your floor to be damaged!

Fantastic

Fit perfect in our garage. Very powerful, was cold within hours but waited 24 until putting food inside. It's a little on the small size but is definitely a good value.

The size is perfect, just what I needed to store extras, I love the fact that I can see what I have in the freezer without having to move things around.

Great small freezer!

|

I needed more freezer storage in addition to what I had. I looked up small freezers on the Sears website and was excited to find this small, upright freezer. The freezer has fulfilled my family's need for extra storage and is running great!

Just the right size

|

When we moved to ND, and got all settled in, we realized we needed a small freezer. I checked out Sears online and found the perfit size! It was a upright Kenmore 5.1. It is easy to see what you have in it, you don't have to dig around in it like you would a chest freezer. I can see everything we have! I highly recommend this freezer. Nice thing of it is when we retire, we will be able to put this in our 5th wheel!!! Great value for the price!

Perfect Size

Fit perfectly after taking out laundry tub. When short on space, you have to set priorities! After plugging in, it was cold enough to put ice cream in within a few hours.
