Kenmore 5,200 BTU Room Air Conditioner

This air conditioner works great.  It's easy to operate and cools our bedroom down quickly.  It's also quiet enough that I can sleep through it (I'm a light sleeper).  I keep it on energy saver during the day--which keeps it from getting stifling upstairs, but not "cool".  I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to work or not, but it's great for my purposes.  The beeping from adjusting the controls is incredibly loud--but, I don't see any reason to rate it less for that.  I also have the lowest model Kenmore--which was $99 for my son's room--and it works just as well.  It doesn't have the energy saver option--but I just turn it to the lowest cool setting when we're not upstairs.  I actually would have just bought two of the lowest model, but was lucky enough to find one of these marked down at Sears (open box item).

I read through every review on Sears of this a/c. I foolishly decided that the fan-water noise would not be an issue. Could not have been more wrong.  The irregular, crackly, percussive splashing of the water hitting the fan blades is not a constant drone that you can learn to tune out like white noise; it is just plain irritatating. And water will splash out the side vents. In a tropical environment, it will rust out sooner rather than later. This is a ridiculous, terrible design for cooling. What were they thinking?

This was an office installation, so the beeping noises did not bother us, although they are loud as described. The function icons they have chosen for the panel and the remote are not easily visible or intuitive. We had a difficult window space for this installation, and if it hadn't taken us so long to customize it, and if it weren't so messy (wet) to take out, I would be returning the unit. The only reason it gets two stars is because it will cool an appropriate sized room.
