Kenmore 6K BTU A/C

This unit is actually a Frigidaire (Electrolux) labeled for Sears Kenmore.  I was extremely surprised at it's performance considering I had already returned 3 Frigidaire A/C's to other stores due to excessive noise.  This one is a real gem.  It is a low profile design.  Included is a support bracket.  What's most impressive is the 52Db noise at high A/C.  My spouse and I are very pleased with this purchase.

Mold Mold MOLD

this air conditioner is a mold trap. I've had two of them now and they both got so much mold on the inside that it looks like a science project. The drum fan on the inside of this one after one season was covered in thick furry black mold. It looks like a petri dish! It must be a design flaw with the drum fan, but the plastic they used is clearly a mold prone material. It is impossible to clean the inside too. The second one I bought last year was not nearly as quiet as the first one that I bought about 5 years ago.

mold and water condensation on the controls

this is the most expensive AC unit I have ever had and the most crapy one. It has NO DEHUMIDIFICATION POWER, which means it will only cool down your room and keep all the moisture in the air. there is water condensation on the controls and mold everywhere inside the unit. even my cheapest, very loud AC unit does the job better than this OVERPRICED PIECE OF ****.
I called sears repair service and they charge 75$ for somebody to come and look if it's corectly instaled - like I'm a moron who has no idea how to put AC in a window.
I'm taking it back to the store tomorrow and they will charge me 15% restocking fee. ONE BIG JOKE!!!!

Quiet and Magnificant at Cooling

This A/C unit beats any previous A/C i have ever had, so I went back to Sears and bought a second one for an additional room!

Buy Only If You Don't Use Remote

I read some reviews here from users who didn't like the remote. But I thought: how bad can this remote be? Is it really that different from other ac remotes? The answer is YES it can be THAT bad. If you do not need to use the remote, esp not at night, then this unit is probably fine for you.
If, however, you are purchasing for a bedroom, to mainly use at night, you may want to buy another unit. The remote is tiny, light weight, and easy to lose. The face of the remote is entirely black, smooth and flat, and does not light up at night or have any lcd display for temp. That means if you want to turn off/on or adjust temp or fan you have to turn on your light. And even then you won't be able to tell what temp you have set the unit at, or what speed the fan is set on, unless you get up and walk over to the ac unit.
The lcd display on the unit is facing upwards. Good for keeping room dark, but bad if you'd like to see what the temp is set on. For such an expensive unit, I am amazed that the remote does not have an lcd display showing at least the temp, and at least a bump where the on/off button is so it can be used without turning on a light at night.
The words on the remote are tiny (in keeping with how small the remote is), and are barely legible. With another couple of months of use, I am sure they will have rubbed off entirely.
One thing I did to remote that helped -- I bought a pkg of those little plastic discs, the ones used under lamps, etc to prevent them from scratching furniture. I stuck one where the on/off control is on the remote. Now I can turn unit on/off without turning on light. Can't see to control fan or temp, but at least can turn on/off.
As mentioned by another poster, the opening vents on the unit are quite large, I also duck taped netting over the opening. Otherwise you will end up with a lot of debris inside the unit.
For $300, you should not have to do this stuff to make the unit and remote useable!
On the plus side, the unit is pretty quiet, was easy to install (we couldn't use the brace due to our window set up, but still is fairly stable), and cools the room. Would have liked it to dehumidify a little more. But if you are using in a kitchen, den, liv rm, it should be fine. For a bedroom, I'd consider another unit.

Very Nice

Just purchased to replace my old low profile. Works great and enjoy the feature of the air blowing up rather than out. Read many reviews of people complaining about this feature but I really like it. It's also very quiet.

Efficient! Very Nice!

First things first, After hooking it up and turning it on, my room was at the set temp of 72 in 20 minutes on a 92 degree day which was very impressive. Fits in my basement window like a charm with some cloth around the unit for insulation (doesn't fit the whole window). I just have to say this is the best AC unit I have purchased and I hope it lasts a very long time, my room is 140 square feet and it gets extremely hot and humid in the summer (lots of electronics in my room including a fridge putting off heat). This AC just runs for 10-15 minutes and easily gets my room to the desired temp and goes to fan mode and repeats so very energy friendly. It's running on a 100ft 14AWG extension cord (not to much power where my room is) and the cord doesn't even get warm with the AC only pulling 5amps max, though using a extension cord like that is not a smart or recommended idea with an AC due to resistance and voltage loss from what I hear, it still seems to work like a charm. Either way it's a great product and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an AC for their room.

Seems great for now

Gets the room colder than I need it to be. I have read the reviews, 25% of which were quite negative. That seems to be the case of most of the window ACs I checked out. So I bit the bullet and paid for the 3 year maintenance contract. I bought 3 Sears ACs, two 12k BTU units and this 6k, all at once. (So sears loves me.) Quality in the age of "made in China" is hit or miss. This unit seems to be intelligently designed. It does not drip inside the room (as one reviewer said). I set it up in about ten minutes (unlike someone who said it took an installer an hour). This was the second AC that I had *ever* installed. Right now in high humidity and high heat it is doing what it should be doing. It is working in tandem with the downstairs unit to keep the upstairs office, bathroom and hallway cool. The downstaris 12k BTU unit is doing the dining room, living, room, and kitchen. A third unit does my large bedroom and master bathroom (but I only turn it on in the evening). So by running 18k BTUs I'm cooling roughly half of an 1850 sq foot house which is about 20 BTUs per square foot and that's right on the money in terms of what standard recommendations predict.

I've only had it for a week so I don't know where I'll be with it three years down the road. Right now it is doing fine. I don't use the remotes it is just one more piece of junk to lose.

It is quieter than most of the ACs I encounter at friends' homes. The large indentation for the window is a real plus. It is light weight.

I must say I would be delighted with this product except that the "made in china" issue leaves me worrying it will be worthless two weeks from now. As I write this, it is doing fine.

TIP: to reduce stuff from getting in the top duct tape 9x6 inch Scotch bright pads across the top vents. These are porous (you can easily breathe through them) and permit air to pass easily, but will keep junk from getting in there.

TIP: The energy saver does turn the unit off which saves money. Typically the room runs about 3 to 5 degrees hotter than what is set on the AC. If I set it to 68, the room is 71 to 73. Makes sense to me the thermostat is in the unit and it is much colder over where it is blowing in than in the rest of the room.

Good A/C, but not as quiet as some

We ended up taking this one back and getting the 8,000 btu model, which seems quieter, only because it doesn't cycle on and off as noisily as this one did. It did cool the room down nicely though, so that was not an issue. Also, the controls are very difficult to read - especially at night. Needs more lighting - and definitely the case for the remote. The 8000 btu unit is better, though with the same controls issue. With time, we'll just know where the buttons are, so not a huge issue, just a bit of a pain. Also, the blower blows out the top, so if you have thick window shades (we have dbl-cell shades), you have to keep the shade 4-5 inches above the unit, which doesn't help our room-darkening shades.

The most quiet air conditioners I've ever owned!

I am so glad I bought two of these low-profile, easy-to-install, energy-efficient air conditioners for our bedrooms. They are very quiet with an easy-to-use remote control as well as a sleep cycle to use overnight. Good price and great value!

quiet, expensive, lacks a lot

If quiet is the most important feature this is 5 stars, get it! This was very important to me since it is in my bedroom and I am a very light sleeper. That is the only pro, except it does have power saver feature.

Pro & con: dark control panel, great for bedroom, if you need to adjust in the night you will need to turn on the light. Remote control is useless, very small and needs the light. In a few years I will need glasses to see it.

- As a result of it being low profile the air comes out on the top, up under my cellular shade. I have helped this situation by attaching a cardboard piece that came as packing on the top sending the pointed upward air forward.
-doesn't have a dehumidifier.
-only comes in 6000 BTU, not very strong. To keep my 132 square foot bedroom at 73 degrees I need it on 68 degrees, raising it to 70 degrees makes the room 77 degrees.
-no 24 hour timer
-very expensive
-installation instructions are a bit confusing

out of room for more...

Worst air conditioner

I owned the older model of this for 10 years and it worked great. When it broke, I replaced it with this in mid May .
The air conditioner isn't cooling sufficiently, there are no handles for easy window insertion as the older model, it is sharp metal not hard plastic as the older model, but mostly it has constant moisture build up in the vents and is constantly dripping water from the bottom of the air conditioner inside my house. The air conditioner is tipped back as it should be for water drainage. This is going back. As hot as it is today, without a box, it is going back. Since I have a heart condition, I have to get someone to get it out of the window and put it in my car. But this air conditioner is no where near the quality of the older model. As a matter of fact, it isn't even working as an air conditioner with water dripping constantly inside my house on the window sill and down the wall. I've never seen anything like this.

don't buy this

One year and two weeks after purchase (so one summer season) and it started to blow only hot air. So Sears sends out a repairman and without going in to alot of details, the repair person and his "help desk" could not figure out what was wrong. Sears would not replace the $300 AC but would order $800 in parts! As you may have guessed, it's now in the garbage and Sears has lost a customer

Much like Vanessa said, if it is for an online order for in store pickup you can call the store and see if the order has been received or not. But I would also suggest that you check your spam folder to make sure it didn't go to that. They have ended up there on occasion.
