I like it, but there are a few nits...

First off, I love the look of this unit. Call me shallow, but I'm a sucker for 'cute' appliances. But, there are things I do not like:

  1. While the description touts "8-way positioning" of the output, that's just not true. The air comes out of this unit at a 45 degree angle, perpendifular to the unit front, e.g, if this unit is at the foot of your bed, the air will fall over the bed (cold air drops, remember?). Despite my attempts, there is no way to divert the air to the right or left, so, if you require instant gratification from the cold air blast, position the unit accordingly.
  2. The controls are on top of the unit. Therefore, one has to be standing above the unit to see the current temperature setting. The remote seems to work from any angle.
  3. The remote is perfect if you can see it. Since there are no buttons or any tactile feedback, using it in the dark is hit or miss.

3 days into my new purchase and I'm happy with it. My room is slightly larger than the specs dictate, and setting the unit at 75 in 80-90 degree Atlanta weather works fine. I also use a fan to circulate the air.

Update: I've had it about a month now, and the love is still there. It's around 80 degrees and humid at night here during the peak of Summer, but it is 72 degrees and 40% humidity in my bedroom. This AC works great. I don't even use the remote, though, it's still on my nightstand. Actually, all 3 of my initial gripes above are non-issues a month into owning this great appliance.

Another reviewer mentioned it was hard to install. Huh? I was able to install this unit by myself on the second floor of my house in 30 minutes flat. It took more time to read the manual.

One last thing: Don't by a window support bracket. It's included.

Missing good features of model 75062

We were looking for a light weight AC that my husband and I could easily carry and install.  The weight listed was great, so we ordered this model.  When it arrived in the store we expected it to be an improvement on model 75062.  What a disappointment.  I did not take the new AC out of the store.  When the salesperson opened the box we found that this AC has no grill to cover the fins on the back which are easily mashed, nor does it have hand holes like the 75062.  Unfortuately these two qualities, grill cover for fins and hand holes are not listed in the description so I had to order the AC before I could find out.  The weight was listed on line, though.

Great A/C Unit

I really like this unit.  I bought one for my home office because my old non-energy efficient unit was so loud I had to turn it off if I was on the phone.  The old unit in my livingroom bit the dust, so I ordered this unit.  Love it.  I don't have to turn the TV to max to hear it if the unit is on. Easy install and not too heavy for me to lift on my own.

Kenmore 6K BTU A/C

This unit is actually a Frigidaire (Electrolux) labeled for Sears Kenmore.  I was extremely surprised at it's performance considering I had already returned 3 Frigidaire A/C's to other stores due to excessive noise.  This one is a real gem.  It is a low profile design.  Included is a support bracket.  What's most impressive is the 52Db noise at high A/C.  My spouse and I are very pleased with this purchase.

Kenmore 6000 BTU Air Conditioner is GREAT!

Most of the reviews that I read only complain about this unit. I have nothing but praise for it's function, cooling. Installation is a bit different but not difficult for a semi-handy person. If you start the unit BEFORE the room temperature goes up, I handles the rest of the day perfectly cool. It is so quiet that I cannot believe it is running. I am ordering another unit today to cool the rest of my mobile home. I am so glad I found this unit.

Complicated installation, takes a while to cool the room.

I bought this air conditioner based on experience with another Kenmore air conditioner unit that was quiet and easy to get in and out of the window. The new one took a handyman about an hour to install. Not acceptable, even for a first installation. I could not have installed it in an emergency, which it was that day. It takes about 20 minutes to bring the temperature of an overheated room to a comfortable level, (88 degrees down to 80). On the plus side it is low profile. However it is not small, and definitely not lighter than a unit with a bigger footprint. It is moderately quiet, and the night setting keeps the room at the promised temperature without a lot of noise when it cycles on and off. The remote is pretty worthless at night, since it it is not lit with any LED buttons. I have to turn the light on in the bedroom to adjust if it is needed. If not for the very hot and humid weather, and Sears easy ordering and pick-up system, I would have done more research to see if a better unit was available at this price - $269.

Kenmore AC

Love the Kenmore AC, we were looking for a quiet one and this one is. Had to do a little adjusting to get it to fit in our window, but it was not a problem. Took about an hour total and it started cooling immediately. Our old one was too noisy, this one is definately quiet which is what I was looking for.

Designer should be fired!! Poor replacement for the former 75062

What has happened to Sears????? I had bought a 12,000 BTU model but couldn't reach the Sears installation people to have it installed permanently in my window (it was too heavy for me to lift). So after calling for a month without success, I had to return it. I bought this one b/c I could put it in the window myself and take it out in the winter. I also have the previous version which is really great. I was expecting the old version with improvements- Boy- was I in for a disappointment. This new version is the worst design and functions poorly. I own the prior version 75062 which is really great- I now wish I had bought two; since it it no longer available and the new one is awful... For this new version: PROS: 1. Improved attachments for securing unit to the window, which is great for using in a 1st floor window. Built-in recessed indentation for window sash. Installation hardware and insulation included. 2. 24 hour timer vs 12 hour. CONS: 1. NOT low profile as advertised - is the same height as the conventional units. 2. Made of metal with exposed fins and no handles - making it awkward to install. (former version was one piece, hard plastic with handles and a covering for the fins). 3. Display is difficult to use or to see anywhere but standing close by. 4. Remote is useless. Writing too small to read without a magnifying glass for most people. Too small and easily lost. Can't use remote in the less than bright light or without a flashlight. If it only glowed in the dark or had better contrast for the lettering. 5. Old version was enclosed in hard plastic with handles; making it easy to move, clean and store at the end of the season. This one is metal, with large outside openings which allow dirt to come in and making it difficult to clean and put away. Again, no handles -make it difficult to move and install. Sharp metal edges-watch your hands! 6. Front plastic cover is cheap-won't last long-prone to breakage. 7. Installation instructions and use and care guide very very poorly written and not edited. Half of it makes no sense and does not use correct English. 8. Heavier than prior model. 9. Doesn't cool well and can't direct air with all of the 8 way air direction attachments! Only blows up into the curtains. Takes hours to change the temperature in the room by 10 degrees. 10. Fan has no power even on HI!I think whomever re-designed this model and wrote the included paperwork should be fired!!!!!! Such a poor replacement. Bring back the old plastic model with improvements to the window attachments and a functioning remote and you"ll have a great product-contact me and I'll give you a much better design!

Not what I expected for a Kenmore!

Oh my goodness...I have always bought Kenmore products but this is the worst air conditioner ever. It was a replacement for our old Kenmore. It did not cool proper and with this heat I had it down to 60 and it still didnt cool. This was more BTUs than are old one. I bought it on 6/18/2012 and it's going back today.

Perfect AC for vertically-challenged windows!

The specifications for this model state that your window must be at least 12.5 inches tall for this AC to fit. It's true that you'll need that amount of space to fit the outdoor part of the AC cabinet through the window, but if you have windows that can be "unlocked" and popped out, allowing them to be raised a bit higher for installing the AC, those of you with a bit less space are in luck. I was looking for an AC that could fit into a space 11.5 x 30, and for obvious reasons, I wasn't having much success. I checked online and saw that both Kenmore and Frigidaire offer a low profile version. I chatted a bit with the sales associate at my local Sears store. He couldn't make any guarantees, but he knew that the Kenmore "dips" at the section of the AC that rests inside the window. I decided to risk it and ordered it. It arrived four days later. The first thing I did was to measure the "dip," since its size would determine whether or not I would keep the AC; it was only 10 inches high! The AC was easy to install (I did it with my sister's help, so if a couple of middle-aged ladies can do it...), it cools the two upstairs rooms quite easily with the assistance of a fan, and it's amazingly quiet. I know other reviewers haven't been happy with the lack of air direction (it can be aimed left/center/right, but it vents up, not out into the room). This problem can be easily fixed by using a fan, though.I really want to drive home that this is a great AC for anyone whose window space might be lacking. If I'd trusted the specs as they're listed on the website, I'd still be looking for an AC during the worst heatwave since 1988. Color me happy!

Great A/C, feels underpowered but does the job

I bought this unit to replace a similar unit I had purchased about 5 years ago that finally went on the fritz. I was worried about some of the reviewers who said the cooling is less than the previous model. I would say the fan airflow is a lot less but cooling is just as good (just seems to take a little longer to cool the room, but I'd say that's because the air isn't spitting out -- frankly I never understood why they don't put better fans in these things, I can deal with the white noise -- I want the option -- but I guess they wanted to be able to say this is a quiet bedroom unit, and it is). What's interesting to me is that it seems like the unit is much quieter (well it is because the fan doesn't run as loud), but I mean it carries a lot less outside noise in. I read one review which indicated this unit is actually split in the middle with the compressor in the "outside box" and other parts in the "inside box" -- I didn't really check out if this is true, but unlike most air conditioners which are almost like having a hole in the wall, this one seems really to not bring outside noise in. I live off of a *busy* street and was considering purchasing one of the higher end room units where you actually plumb to an outside compressor just to get rid of the street noise, but I think I won't have to do that now.So ... I'm happy. And I might add, I like it cold and we've had a string of 95 degree plus days here, it's doing fine!

Kenmore 6,000 BTU Room Air Conditioner (Item #04270062000P

This is one of the best air conditioners that Sears has. Quiet, and gets really cold. Almost got frostbite!!! Remote control a big plus too with a timer on it. Really light as compared to comparable models. It is being used in the kitchen and does one hell of job and is twice as energy efficient than other units I had. Can't go wrong.

LOVE MY AC UNIT

Bought it about a month ago and I love not only the sleek thin design which allows ample space for fresh air into my room when top window is open but also cools my room in less than 10 minutes when operating. Very easy to set up, took me less than 20 minutes. The remote control is very small and difficult to read controls however. Be advised that digital board is not located in front of unit but on top of making it very difficult to see or read panel. Other than that, I'm a happy customer with this product.

Simply the best

I have owned this unit since summer 2007. It runs. It cools. It's very quiet. It takes far less energy to run than the Frigidaire in the other window (that's very noisy too). This is simply THE BEST air conditioner I have ever owned. I will buy another...if I ever need to replace this or any other unit. The low profile is great. Helps the unit to push air directly up and out since the outflow is not flush against the window. Most A/C's push air out, but not up very far. This one's much better at keeping a larger area cooled. I cannot believe it's only 6000 BTUs. Cools as much as a higher rated unit. I have reviewed this before, but wanted to update. Still running fine.
