Love the look and space

I first bought the freezer to this unit in late 2008(for $950) because it was stainless & had an ice maker then in 2010 we were building a house and I wanted the "built in" look.  The other built in units our there cost two to three times what this set cost so I just bought the matching refrigerator($1100) to match my freezer and had the cabinet maker use these dimensions to fit the pair.  I LOVE IT!!!!!! I did NOT buy the "trim kit" and it looks great in my new house. The space this refrigerator offers is amazing, I love to entertain and I cook a lot & in large quantities, so the wide shelves come in handy for trays and they are adjustable in height!!! I'm selling my huge house and buying a smaller one and will purchase this set again for my new house..... but I will just have the refrigetator in the Kitchen and the freezer in the laundry room, it wont have a built in look but I love/want the extra space of a freezerless refrigerator (the other high end, french door and bottom freezer/refrigerator units cost as much or more that these two combined!) I definately reccommend this unit!!! Never had any problems with it!!! And it is the best pair of units for the price if you want the built in look..... I see the price has gone way up for the units but they are still a great buy!

Broke in first year

Fridge failed in the first year, took over a week to fix. Lost all my food. Repairman said it was not assembled correctly. Out of 6 Kenmore elite appliances I bought 3 have failed in the first year. Then they try to sell you extended warranties because their product is junk. Will never buy kenmore again.

Am I just lucky?

|

I bought this Refrigerator and matching Freezer ($995 each on sale) with the trim kit ($165) in mid-2006 while our new house was being built. The kitchen cabinets were designed to accommodate this great-looking pair. These appliances went to work when we moved into the new house in December 2006, and has served us well ever since. We have had no problems whatsoever, despite heavy usage for nearly eight (8) years. When they do conk out, I hope Sears still carries the same model so I can just slide the new appliances into the same cabinet. Everyone who comes into our kitchen marvels at this pair of beauties and wants to see the inside as well.

Fridge not great Freezer worse

|

Loved the counter depth, looks great. Unfortunately, the freezer constantly forms ice around the edge of the door. It's hard to get off and effects the contents of the freezer. We bought the pair (fridge/freezer) counter depth and we have to constantly rearrange the food in the fridge to get the door to close. Never again! Had them about 5 years.

Terrible door finish!! Buy Frigidaire instead with the extended warranty and keep extending it!

|

Replaced a 5 yr old Kenmore Elite All Refrigerator and All Freezer set. Unfortunately we didn't extend the 5 year warranty. The fridge just died, the service guy said that the cost of diagnostics + parts it would be cheaper to buy new. Our matching freezer was icing up and leaking due to thermostat failure, icemaker didnt work and the door handles were now a different style, so replaced both. PLEASE NOTE!!!! The new size is not 65.5" like the previous Kenmore Elite set, but is now 72"! Needed to remove the upper cabinets! Then discovered that 1. The new door wasn’t magnetic (no biggie), and 2. The new door finish was HORRIBLE to keep clean!!! Every single time we touched the door it left marks. I was polishing it daily and it still looked awful and I am not that fussy. I cleaned the old ones once a month. We switched them out for the Frigidaire. Identical size & interior, smudge resistant. Not as good as the old Kenmore door and handle finish but better than the new Kenmore finish!

Worst product and service ever

|

Read the reviews!! Wish I did. Piece of junk. Stopped cooling after only 11 months. First time took two weeks to get repaired, had a leak in cooling system. Less than a month later same problem, stopped cooling. Parts order for repair were damaged right out of the box. Had to re-order parts and now parts are sitting at my house but Sears won't send a Tech. Not enough repair jobs in my area and Sears won't send a Tech out for one job. So far a total of 5 weeks with no fridge and no compensation. I will never buy from Sears again.

We LOVE this refrigerator

|

We have had this set (refrigerator and matching freezer) for 5 months now. They are attractive, well organized and very lit up on the inside. My daughter said it looked like a convenience store cooler when she first opened it up. The thermostat stays at the exact temperature my husband set it for when it arrived. I love the alarm that goes off if it did not shut all the way (my fault, not faulty closure) It does feel a little more lightweight than my other Kenmore freezer but once we filled it up it stays put. We did not buy the extended warranty (my husband is certified to repair) and did not buy the trim kit but they look great any way. The salesperson was trying to push both on us. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a separate refrigerator and freezer set. I wish we had bought these long ago. Best purchase we have made in years

1 year and freezes everything

|

Initially it did what it was supposed to do; keep a lot of items cool. After a year (just after warranty expired) I noticed it would not stop running and that occasionally everything inside froze (brita filter popped). Replaced thermostat, helped for 2 days then continued running right to 0C (32F) again. Every 2 days I have to manually put the unit in defrost mode by pressing the filter and alarm button for 3 sec.(rather than moving the darn thing and unplugging it). I'm told that its the defrost thermostat- replaced it. Control Board, Leaking refrigerant, non-functioning defrost unit...basically buy a new refrigerator! After reading the reviews (too late) it looks like any major repair will not last long. I guess we'll just wait till the compressor gives up and blow excess electricity then NEVER buy a Kenmore product manufactured by Frigidaire! Too bad because all our appliances are Kenmore and this is the misfit...I think our stand alone freezer may go eventually as it is making some weird sounds but at least it cycles on and off.

DON'T BUY - I should of listened

|

I fell in love with the look but should have listened - 5 years and 1 month from the day of purchase it's useless. We had issues from the start - 2 thermostats water leaking (we called it peeing), plastics cracking and lots of strange noises.
It died with a leak in the system which is under a 5 year warranty but we are 1 month past and I got the run around on the phone (one guy even hung up on me - he had my number and could of called back). I am now closing my Sears card and will NOT shop there again. I have usually had good luck there but not this time and I won't be taken advantage of again.

Great refrigerator, lots of room.

|

We installed this pair in the house we just built. So far I love them. The extra trim kit makes them look built in and much more expensive than they are. I have owned many Kenmore appliances in the past and I am once again impresses with this one. My only "complaint" is that the shelves are somewhat shallow, even more so than a counter depth model.

Make sure the phone help know what they are doing, most don''t

|

Well its hard to review this item, since it was a replacement for a different refrigerator that arrived scratched. This was delivered today and before the delivery men even brought it inside, they were staying outside talking about something...Turns out it was a freezer NOT a refrigerator, so another wasted day waiting for Sears delivery men.

Very Spacious

|

Love the gracious space this has. I can put so much more food in this compared to a standard size refrigerator. No problems except for dent on the first one which was replaced with another damaged refrigerator. Got the freezer too. Looks wonderful and elegant in my kitchen. I get many compliments.

Kenmore Elite

|

Bought this refrig with the upright freezer. Just love the look, the lights inside and the size. Several days after the unit was installed, it started to leak from the bottom. I have wood floors. Service came and said there was not enough insulation in the door. Was within the 60 day return policy so had it replaced yesterday. If the second one does the same will get a refund. See my review on the freezer unit. It worst.

Buyer Beware

|

I should have listened to the reviews I read before purchasing this. Don't be fooled by the beautiful presentation of a juicy large fridge. Ours broke almost to the day of the year warranty -- a day later of course! Had to purchase a new plan to cover service and parts. Had to wait DAYS for someone to come and fix it. Had to wait more days before filling fridge again. Once filled same problem occurred. Fridge over heated! Then had to wait another 4 days for a service appointment. Once that repair guy came was informed the parts were on back order for A MONTH!
I will only be compensated $200 for food loss, for two batches of groceries thrown out, and no compensation for a month without a fridge! No temporary fridge offer, no nothing.
Think you can get a human on the phone to help -- good luck!
Regret this purchase!!!!!
Fridge over heats. They thought it was the gas line, but now it seems it is the compressor, heat exchange and evaporator. On a fridge less than a year installed - what kind of product are they selling.
The day it broke down I heard an ad on the radio for the Kenmore Elite at Sears, and was flabbergasted! DO NOT BUY -- YOU WILL REGRET!

Worst refrigerator ever

|

I will not even give this product a star. I am only reviewing because I feel so strongly about what a piece of junk this refrigerator is. Our house was built with this unit installed. Sure looks nice but after three years the compressor totally craps out. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. We bought a second refrigerator to match the freezer, we thought it was our only option at the time, the freezer portion of the set works fine. Three years later, compressor taps loudly for a few weeks, then, no cooling. We are done. This time we are buying the top of the line LG and having cabinets built in place of the excess room.

Scratches easily, broke after 3 months

|

Bought refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher 2/13 The frig and refrigerator were damaged during shipment. You can only see the abrasions with light shined on them. Sears was great at replacing the fronts with extended warrenty. Now the fridge is broken, Does not cool. The surface is very soft, scratches if my finger nail rubs against it when opening up the door. Rings would really damage. Already have scratches and don't know where they came from. I have no children in the house so really confused at how the scratches appeared. Love the size, love the set up inside. Wsh they came in white.

Couldn't fix - had to replace

|

Refrigerator kept overheating (54 degrees inside and alarms screeching in the middle of the night). 1st failure was six months after purchase. 3 more in rapid succession. After four attempts at fixing it, the technician finally tagged it as non-repairable. Should have done that right away instead of throwing more money at it and causing us more inconvenience. Waiting for a new one. Wish me luck with the replacement. Response time was quick (once called in the am and the technician was here 2 hours later). Technicians very professional. Broke one of my own rules and bought the extended warranty on this product after seeing how much it would cost to repair it.
