This is one great freezer.

We love this freezer. The noise level is average and hardly noticable. The features and the space are great and I couldn't find anything close for the $670. It looks great and we like the temperature display on the front to reassure you that all is well. We would recommend this freezer to any family that wants to buy bulk and store it all in one place. A great money saver in power, too. You can't go wrong unless you have a library quiet household and then you might notice the compressor cycling. The adjustable shelves make for easy storage of just about everything. She loves the ice cream storage shelf. Talk about easy to scoop, the temp. is perfect. Bottom line; We did some research and this was the best bang for the buck that we could find at the time. Enough said.

Worked great for a while..

Purchased the earlier version of this model 6 years ago and it just died (we were lucky, the alarm went off and we saved the food). For the period that it worked, it worked great. Good shelving design, good energy usage, noise acceptable in the garage. All OK. We liked it. Here's what you should know: The last freezer I had, worked for MANY years longer than this one, but it had MECHANICAL controls. It did not have electronic controls; like my just failed 6 year old unit and this current version. Here's why that's an important issue, the Electronic Controls that add so many great features and alarms, are VERY sensitive to electrical surges from the power company. So here's the Warning: PUT A SURGE SUPPRESSOR on your freezer and (unless it's a lemon) it will last a much longer time. As an engineer, I really know better, so shame on me for not putting one on this expensive appliance (and a 'whole house surge suppressor' if you live in an area with iffy power). I've had good luck with Sears stuff as a rule, so I'm going with a replacement unit (I really like the shelving on this unit). But it'll have a surge suppressor from the get go. And 'no' Sears didn't pay me to write this, but I think a lot of people would benefit from doing this. Losing hundreds of pounds of frozen goods is just a bad deal for everybody.

Reviewers may have received a benefit, like a sweepstakes entry or rewards program points, in exchange for writing a review.
Those benefits were not conditioned on the positive or negative content of the review.

Stainless steel version probably not worth it

I paid about $200 more for the stainless steel version and I must say that I feel a bit ripped off. Only the door is stainless and the rest is black. Not very elegant. The door is rather nice though and has a gentle curve.

The device is noisy when it is running (60% of the time I'd guess) and for some reason the back of it rattles. When I push against the back, it does not rattle. Maybe a loose backside.

Inside, it is truly spacious, but the drawers definitely lack. They are barely drawers, more like baskets that you can slide. And because if the poor design, they get caught on the sides when you open them. Is it a big deal? Well I don't want to spend extra time fighting the drawer, so this is a definite ding on this fridge.

Soft-freeze zone barely works. Items in there are not soft and the door to it is hard to open. When it opens, it swings all the way down and is just sort of awkward all around.

Controls are great and it got down to zero degrees at incredible speed. I haven't seen any frost and it is keeping our food cold.

I would be satisfied if this was the ~$600 version and not the ~$800 version. Maybe they should also upgrade the baskets and interior/exterior styling on this higher end device.

20.6 upright freezer

I needed to replace an older chest freezer and wanted the upright for ease of access. I am very pleased with the elite 20.6 for it's overall appearance and for the options of arrangement of food inside. I was amazed at how quickly it reached the zero degree temp.

great freezer

We wanted a quality freezer and found this to fit our needs best. We are excited to have an alarm on the freezer as last year our old freezer was left ajar and we lost all our food. This freezer is also frostless and our old freezer would build up ice....which also was part of the cause of the door being left ajar.

Great product

Very quiet. Maintains temperature extremely well. Recently lost power for 20 hours, freezer temperature only came up to 10 degrees, when the power returned. Display also blinked 36 hours maintain temp. I believe it would have keep our food frozen for that long not opening it.

delivery

love the freezer but thought that when it was delivered they were going to remove all the wrapping and put shelves in along with leveling the freezer. all they did it take it out of the box and plug it in. My husband at 81 had to do all the rest as I was at work.

Excellent bargain

This freezer has lots of options for storage on the door as well as in bins and shelves, making it easy to customize for my family. I love the temperature display on the door, and having the alarms. We tend to keep a freezer full, and wouldn't want to lose all that food because we didn't realize there was a problem.

great freezer! reliable

This is the second time I bought this and so far it held up well. The bottom basket broke but that may be because I overstuffed it or was too rough with it.I had the first fridge for 2 years and I sold it instead of taking it across the country. When I looked into upright freezers again, I bought the same one. I don't use the extra dividers enclosed. I find they take up more space than help with organization. But everything else works great so far into the 3rd year of owning this freezer again.

happy cus liz

I have had this freezer since october of 2013 and I absolutely love it. It is huge and very attractive. I love the glass shelves and the ice cream door keeps the ice cream really soft. I really like the door alarm and I am surprised that I can hear it in my bedroom, although both are on the same level. I've never had a problem with it.

impressed

I had a large chest freezer that needed replacing and chose an upright this time. The freezer is very spacious. I was able to organize the space so much better. When deciding on which model at the store, I am glad we chose this model for the extras, glass shelving, pizza storage, full and organized door shelves. In the instruction packet it said that the noise volume could be loud, it has not been too loud. It freezes fast and well. I like the display on the ourside of the freezer telling the temp too. I would recommend this freezer.

Super upright freezer

Got it today and really like all the storage options. Glass shelves are a real plus and the basket retainers work in this freezer. Very pleased with the options for setting up the freezer.

Proper installation is required to prevent compressor to run long. After 6 hours of running, I checked the manual for setup and then the freezer It was too close to the wall in back and requires at least 3 inches of space for air flow. I set it to 3.5 inches and the compressor stopped running shortly afterwards. Also, the freezer wasn't leveled by the book and I leveled it to 1/2 bubble high in the front so the door will close automatically.

Those two changes stopped the compressor from running. Mine is in the laundry room and I would not put this freezer in a living space where the noise can be heard. It shouldn't run that much, but it could be annoying if it runs because the proper spacing for ventilation is not used.

Really glad I picked this one as it only uses $73 bucks a year of electricity. Very low.

Great freezer

I love this freezer. It's got great shelving. The alarms are great (especially with young children). The size is perfect for our family of 5. My intent is to use it for meat and vegetables. I love the soft freeze zone in the door. It's perfect for ice cream and butter.. Highly recommend this product!

Kenmore Elite

We are pleased with our upright freezer. It has excellent storage space with added items for separation of certain foods, even a special space for keeping ice cream at the right temperature--not too hard. The only thing I would mention otherwise is that it is noisy. We have it in the garage so the noise does not bother us, but it would be too noisy for the kitchen.

Kenmore Upright

The Kenmore upright 20.6 cu ft freezer was delivered as promised. The freezer and packaging were in excellent condition. Unpacking was a breeze as was the installation and start up. All instructions were clear and concise. The freezer cooled down quickly and has been working superbly. The layout of the shelving and dividers allow for the best use of space. Am extremely pleased with this purchase.

Excellent freezer!

We have had this freezer for almost a year now and it's flawless performance is exactly what we expected. I highly recommend using the control lock, especially if you have children. We had originally planned on putting it in the basement so other reviews of it being on the loud side weren't a deterent. It isn't loud. It's the low hum you would expect from a frost free freezer and I've owned louder. I do wish I had purchased the stainless steel instead because it now sits in our kitchen. It's just so handy having it right there. Even with it not matching the rest of our appliances, it's sleek appearance looks just fine and an added benefit to it not being stainles is the kids can use their magnets on it. We are very pleased with it and all of our Kenmore Elite appliances that were purchased for our entire kitchen at the same time. I would do it again.
