This is the one to buy!

Biggest available through retail stores period. Great $/ft ratio. I leave it set at 5 degrees instead of 0 and it still keeps things more frozen than my upright fridge/freezer. Works perfectly. Have owned other uprights and chest freezers and this is best.

Disappointed

I purchased the Kenmore Elite because I thought I was buying a quality product. It looks nice but looks are deceiving. I pulled this thing out of the box and plugged it in. It immediately flashed CE ( communication error ) and the manual instructs me to call technical service. The tech guy just left and handed me the receipt for repairs ( covered under warranty) $634.00 was the total. Fascinating since I'm looking at a brand new on the website right now for 659. He had to order 2 circuit boards and a wiring harness to be sure it got repaired the first time since I have 2000.00 worth of beef in it. Unfortunately for me I had to pick up my beef at the same time I picked up the freezer so I have no other place for it. Fortunately the thing still freezes on fast freeze or I would be up the creek since it took a week to get the thing in the first time I ordered it. My point in this whole thing is you would think they would plug the **** thing in and check it before they shipped it out.

Best freezer to cook a turkey

I had this freezer for 13 months then the thermostat ( can be replaced for a mere $68 plus $15.99 shipping and $4 tax and no labor included) went bad and in a matter of 12 hours everything went from a deep frozen state; to a turkey that was above the compressor that was actually cooking because the compressor didn't shut off (which made it like an oven) and the alarm never worked and hundreds of dollars of food wasted, i write this awesome review.

Nice freezer, failed expensively and annoyingly but not devastatingly

Got the freezer 18 months ago and did not buy any extended warranty. I expect it to last decades since it is such a basic item.

Last week the low battery alarm went off. I put in a new battery but it won't reset. The audible alarm is migraine inducing and won't go away.

Had service out to look at it. They called the manufacturer who said. "Oh yes, that is the control board. That will be $430 + including labor to replace."

From looking at other reviews, I see this is not a rare problem with these freezers.

So I either spend 450 on a new board with a 90 day warranty.

Disable the alarm and live with a defective freezer.

Or replace it, I could get a brand new one at Sears for a mere $690 or something like that.

For now the alarm speaker is disabled, but I am still grumpy.

I say not devastating, because the freezer function still works fine. No food was spoiled in the making of this particular debacle.

hope it works as well as the old one

We had an old Kenmore that lasted over twenty years. It was running all the time and using up power. This new one is longer and not as deep as the old one the dividers are nice and the display of the temp.

Fantastic Freezer!

This freezer is huge! Great for buying bulk! I live out in the country and I need to have lots on hand to choose from. I love the fact that it has an alarm in case of power outages, also a concern living out in the boonies! Love it!

died after just over 2 months

Well it's big and you can fit a lot of stuff in it and that's about it. Ours died after just over two months of owning it and with having $1000+ worth of meat in it they may not take it back and will have to deal with the manufacturer (because we didn't purchase additional warranty)or if they do it will still be a few days before they can get a new one my husband is still on the phone with the General manager The sliding shelves are nice accept they have to be in certain spots otherwise the lid doesn't close all the way and you loose the cold and get frost build up so needless to say a little flaw in the design as well as the lock it hits the plastic that it slides out of to latch so the hole they made for it is either to small or off to the side. Will only get another one if I have to but would not buy again.

great room!

Bought this to replace two freezers, delivery scheduling was a pain. Delivery fellows were good, although they could of taken their shoes off or used covers since they had to go across the carpet to get where the freezer was going. Didn't catch the dent until after a couple of days, but the salesman took care of it. Overall happy with the freezer, really like the dividers.

Plenty of room

We have enjoyed this freezer. The controls are easy to operate and the bins and organizers make it much more convenient to use than the older chest freezers. We also like the alarms, its nice to know if the door got left open or the power to the freezer went out.

worked less than a week

Nice big freezer, seemed to work fine the first few days but after only 4 days the temp wouldn't go below 10 and the 5th day was 22. Called local Sears, service tech tentatively scheduled to come in 9 days ! Good thing I don't have anything but 300 pounds of ice in it ! Thinking it has a Freon leak, probably end up replacing it. It's just a pain to buy new stuff and have problems with it right off the bat. My luck to get a lemon. I'll rate YES to recommend to a friend but will see how the service call and repairs go before I actually recommend.

Cheaply made but seems to work

Purchased on sale which is the only way I would buy it. Top is very flimsy. My electronic display was not connected at the factory so I had to take 3 hours off work to have someone come look at it and tell me what the issue was and fix it. I'm only rating this because Sears won't stop calling me about doing this survey!

Needs more baskets

It's larger than my old freezer, but with less usable space since there are only 3 baskets on the top rack, and no middle baskets like my old freezer. Bottom dividers are a good idea, but so deep that I foresee many things getting buried and forgotten.

Spacious, easy to organize

Our old freezer was an upright purchased in 1992. This freezer holds so much more and saves us about $20/month on our electric bill! Downsides are:
1) Because of its size, it's difficult to get 100% level so the lid closes tightly, but it's do-able. Worse case scenario, we just put a little weight on top.
2) The plastic dividers are durable, but move out of square easily, which is frustrating if in one compartment you have odd-shaped items like home grown frozen vegetables in baggies which will push the dividers out of square so that square boxes (ie, fish sticks) don't fit squarely in.
3) It does accumulate frost, though after one year it's not bad at all!

Icy cold, silent, low power!

Fantastic large size freezer. It never makes a sound, and it's always icy cold. The power consumption is on par or better than our old standard size refrigerator. The temp indicator and key lock are nice to haves. The only down is that the backup temp sensor REQUIRES a 9v battery to be in place or the thing beeps forever.
