Kenmore Elite 36" gas cooktop best I could find

I spent two months looking at many 36" gas cooktops. This one was the best. By far the best heavy cast iron gratings that don't slide and slip around like many other units did. All metal knobs, (previous model had garbage plastic knobs) The huge burner is so multi purpose, from boiling huge pots of water to simmering gravy. The bridge burner is great for really big skillets to heat them up evenly. Probably great for a griddle, but don't have one, yet! We got the SS finish, cleans up pretty well, but have to be careful not to scratch it. Electronic ignition works great so far, some brands these fail if they get wet. I like the burners down in the unit, overflows stay put, don't splash out over the sides. PLenty of room for 3-4 pots/pans. My unit just fit inside a 36" cabinet. Make sure you measure carefully before buying.

Only two small complaints. Would have like to had a blue light when the burner is on. On simmer, it can be hard to see if the burner is on. Unit needs center hold down screws. It has 4 on the ends, but could use two in the center. This unit is really big, and could bow up a bit in the center

Unit is pretty expensive. Watch for sales. I got mine for $1250. A reasonable price for such a nice unit. All in all, Me and the Wife are very happy with this cooktop. So much nicer than previous electric tops we have used.

A Horror!!!

First, the finish came scratched and had to be replaced and I know why. You can't even clean it with microfiber as EVERYTHING scratches it. But worse, it makes cooking a horror! The front jet burns all of my pots and pans. Sears has tried everything to tone down and they can't make it stop. Gas company says it is the cooktop. It is the only burner you can use as the others take forever to even boil water. Unless you want to simmer which is impossible! Simmer burner does not go low enough to simmer or hot enough to boil! . It is the cooktop from ****! If you like to cook, steer clear of this one! By the way, it is manufactured by Electrolux if you are interested.

A good cook top if installed properly

|

To address some of the complaints in other reviews...

The front right burner is set way too high from the manufacturer. If you remove the cook top to get below the **** for the front right burner, you can turn the top slotted screw counter clockwise slightly. Keep turning it counter clockwise until the outer flame is weaker. For me this was about a half turn.

For those saying it isn't flush to the granite counter top. Simply remove the thick rubber gasket. The durometer of the rubber is far too high to expect it to compress enough to allow the cook top to seal to the counter.

Other than these two items, this is a very nice cook top. It performs consistently, is easy enough to clean up, and looks nice. The bridge burner on the left side is a great feature too.

So if installed properly, this thing seems perfect. I gave it four stars because these two items seem like the manufacturer should already have them set properly.

I don't think this review will show that I purchased this cook top, but I did. Not under my name, but my builder purchased it direct from Sears.

Great Cooktop

|

Bought this to replace a failed cooktop with a downdraft unit. Sears was able to install in existing hole and utilize existing downdraft unit. Easy process, quick and polite installation, and knowledgeable sales person - and a great product.

Beautiful cooktop

|

After a minor issue requiring us to replace our first unit, the cooktop is performing wonderfully. I love the simmer burner and the bridge burners as well. I can hardly wait for Thanksgiving to give it a real workout!

Awful in many respects

|

We've had multiple issues with this unit in the first 20 months we've had it.

1. burners fail to ignite, particularly the left side burners where the bridge is. You have to remove the burner covers, get every little spec of dirt or crumb out, put everything back together, and then hope that it lights. This has happened with every burner.

2. The front right burner really flares up when it starts. Make sure you don't have your face too close looking at the flame under a pot. Eye brows may be singed!

3. Most of the labels (Lo, Med, Hi, etc) for the control knobs are coming off. We haven't used anythin rough to clean this unit with but yet the labels are disappearing. Safety issue and an eyesore.

Letters easily erased

|

I purchased this cooktop thee months ago. I use it infrequently, since I work nights. The letters on the top are already peeling off, just by wiping them with a sponge. Otherwise, it's a great stove

Very Poor Product

|

Very disappointed in this product. We built a new house and outfitted our new kitchen with Kenmore Pro. We are disappointed with the overall quality but the quality of this item is far below the cost.

After two years of use the cheaply applied control labels are obliterated and the bezels have separated from the controls. We've been careful in cleaning to no avail.

At the price for this range of products I cannot recommend these ranges to anyone.

Purchase if you want to see "Burning Man"

|

The high BTU burner is unfortunately placed in front close to the edge of the cooktop instead of the middle back which would have also been further from the control knobs. This burner is poorly placed and gives off a broad flame instead of a crisp blue fire jet. Cooking with this 21K BTU burner so close to the counter edge will keep you on edge. I've been cooking in this location for 25 years and caught my shirt on fire for the first time after getting too close to this Kenmore M32333 cooktop. Best Stay Away ... Best Regards, "Burning Man"

NOT QUALITY!!!!!!!!

|

Brought this item home, and can't get the packing tape marks off , even with GOO GONE! I scratched it, cleaning with a rag, REALLY a rag scratched the top? I am VERY unhappy with the quality of this cooktop! When I turn it on, sometimes it won't light right away, it clicks and clicks, and then have to turn it off, so I don't have too much gas in the air when it does start it! Based on these issues and others we have with our Kenmore Refrigerator model 5102, I will NEVER purchase Kenmore again!!!!!

The Kemore Elite 36" Gas Cooktop installation woes...

|

We bought this cooktop because of the style and the bridge burner. Haven't had it long enough yet to form a real opinion of it, but so far it is great. I installed it myself, and like other customers had problems with the clips to anchor the top to the counter. I ended up cutting the clips shorter so they would fit down through the cutout in the counter while inserted into the cooktop. There is not enough room to insert them with the cooktop sitting in place. Once installed though, the cooktop pulled down tight to the counter surface and everything seems fine. So far my wife and I really like the layout and the looks of the unit. Just be cautious when ignighting the large dual ring burner on the front, right side. The flame does come out quite far and must quickly be turned lower after ignition. Overall, I would rate this unit very positively. (Just an additional note. After talking to a customer service rep on the phone, it appears this item is made by Electrolux, if that makes a difference to anyone.)

Would not recommend this unit due to installation problems

|

We had this unit installed last August and even though the directions call for clips to be installed to anchor to countertop, they were not installed. After talking to several Sears folks both on-line at at the store, and having the installer come back and look again - no one seems to know how to get this done, even though the clips are shown and specifically talked about in the instructions provided with the unit.

Our unit sits up off the counter probably 1/8" plus in several areas allowing crumbs, grease or whatever to get under there - can't believe there isn't a way to seal this down against the counter - no flange, no gasket - nothing.

Totally unsatisfactory and Sears has only run us around again and again - almost making if feel like it's our fault.

Big thumbs down for this product.
