I got this after my 10 year old Kenmore practically melted in front of me and, being from Europe, I was scouring the web to upgrade to a front loader, BUT after a lot of research it turned out that many front loaders develop mold and your laundry can become stinky. Also my laundry space (on the second floor, hardwood to boot) only allowed me to have a top loader, which is known to have much less vibration than a front loader. I do laundry every couple of days, and I love that this machine is energy efficient, pretty quiet, has a nice display with great options (like handwash/wool and sanitizing) and you can see your laundry get washed, which my two little kids LOVE.
After I bought it and had it installed, it only took two weeks before the display stopped doing its pretty sounds as it gets started, not a real reason for me to call a tech, but annoying enough to only give it 4 out of 5 stars. Otherwise this machine works great, cleans our stuff very well, has a HUGE capacity and uses much less water than my old machine.
Great design, but HUGE disappointment in reliability. Fortunately we purchased the extended warranty with this expensive washer, because we sure have needed it! Within 2 months of purchase the machine failed to go into 'spin' cycle, and this initiated a series of service calls that has continued for two years now. Each service visit yielded a 'fix' for a few days, followed by the recurring problem. My only salvation is that we kept our old Maytag washer in the basement and use it when the Kenmore is out of service. The jury is still out on the success of the latest stab at repair, last week.
Sears would not, and still has not authorized a replacement of the unit, even though parts and labor provided to date easily exceed the price of a replacement washer. If the current repair fails I will be calling the consumer protection agency, since I seem to have a 'lemon.'
The aggravation of being forced to live with such a lemon of a $1000 washer far outweighs the benefits of its many features - fantastic capacity, numerous wash modes, water efficiency and energy efficiency.
If Sears had replaced it on the second failure my review might have been more positive. Next time I will shop for a different brand.
I bought this in September of 2012. I have to get it repaired because it won't complete a load. I spent $1000. The last one I got was about $300 and lasted much longer.
I owned this machine maybe 5 years. Paid a lot of money thinking I have to be getting a good product. WRONG. Spent more money on repairs over the years than I actually paid for the washer. Third time it quit, I, decided to call it quits. Don't waste your money.
Bought a Sears Kenmore Elite 2011 washer and dryer for our new home. In just over two years we have a lot of rust all around the bleach dispenser and the finish is coming off. Also rust all along the edge of the inner lip of the washer. It looks horrible and is obviously a defect in materials. After calling Sears warranty department and being transferred 4 times, I was told it was covered, then it wasn't covered, then it was and finally that it wasn't and that they wouldn't do anything about it. For all the money we spent for the washer and dryer and "extended" warranty I will never buy anything from Sears again!
The control board had to be replaced every single year for 3 years. This time I'm not replacing the board; it's not worth it anymore. I'm getting another washer altogether.
This is such a waste of money and time!!!
this is the best washer ever. i love the "my cycle" setting. I run a clean cycle about once every few weeks to keep the mildew smell out. dont leave your clean clothes in the washer overnight or you will have mega smell. sometimes clothes need to be untangled after a higher speed spin.

Hands down, this is the best washer that I have ever owned! I've heard complaints that the new HE machines just don't have enough water to clean well, but this machines covers everything you put in it with water. Absolutely NO complaints! Love the Sanitize feature. Always use it on bedding. Just an example, I have put in a KS feather blanket, set of KS sheets along with 3 sets of pillow cases and this machines cleans them all at the same time without any issues. I recommend this machine with no reservations. I have owned this machine for just over a year now and I've never looked back to my (old fashioned) top load machine.
We bought this machine 1 year and 1 month ago. We will NEVER purchase another product from Sears. No matter how you load it, this machine goes off balance continually. We have done everything Sears has suggested. Still problematic. We do have the warranty and believe me we use it!
This is a terrible washing machine. First, it does not wash clothes well. And they are completely tangled up after washing. I wish we did not buy this machine 18 months ago. The machine broke (coupling snapped, no longer "agitates"). Called Sears. Repair man came and said it will be another week til he can order parts. What? Sears does not carry Kenmore parts? (It doesn't have Kenmore parts in it. It is LG or GE?) Very disappointed. Washer is a piece of junkl
I purchased this washer (and dryer) about a year and 1/2 ago. Before it was a year old, the motor went ( the tech said that was happening a lot) and now it is leaking water everytime it washes. Also now the dryer's electrical is on the fritz because it won't shut off! I also found out that the Kenmore brand is made by LG which I specially told the sales rep that I didn't want...he failed to tell me. So disappointed! Never buying Kenmore again! Sears had lost my business!
We purchased this last year and it worked very well until last weekend. All of a sudden we heard a blast from the laundry room . The washer was in operation when it happened and my husband had to remove the plug from the wall to stop the damage and sound. He injured himself during the process. The entire top lid, and the others parts (wires, metal pieces) etc were detached and lying on the floor and the drum had come out from the hooks. The place looks a mess with parts lying on the floor. We have no idea how this happened. The washer burst and has torn a portion of the wall. We have an infant at home who got frightened and would not stop crying for 30mins. Our mom started getting palpitation. The sound was like a bomb blast and terrifying. The best part is we called the 1-800 number and they scheduled a technician to visit and he never showed up. When we called back to let them know nobody showed up, they LIED to us saying nobody was at home.
I like the wide variety of options for load settings and the larger tub to save time, water and electricity by doing less batches. I especially like the spin options I can set it so it's cuts down on drying time.
I brought two of these washers 8 months ago both with 3year extended warranties for me and my mom I noticed rust 4months ago I called sears they sent a tech to my house and guess what he said rust don't cover warranty so I guess I'm STUCK! I talked to a supervisor at sears ( in store) he said he has heard the same thing about this product and he said the washer in in the process of being RECALLED! So now I have to wait until it recalled to get another washer....I KNOW IT LOOKS GOOD BUT PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS ON THIS WASHER, I WISH I WOULD'VE READ THEM
<p>I bought this washer back in Feb 2012. I wanted to give it at least 6 months before reviewing. We have five people in our household, so we use the washer almost everyday. Since the washer is so large, I can put at least a load and a half of a normal washer in the tub. Clothes come out almost completely dry. Makes it easier on the dryer. My water bill has gone down over the last 6 months also. I'm so happy I bought this washer. The 6 months 0% interest helped. I did have one problem. The chimes went silent. Well after re-reading the manual and looking on-line, I found out the you can change the "chimes" to low-high-off. I have had no problems with clothes being dirty, etc. It's well worth the money. I purchased the extended warranty just in case, but hoping I NEVER have to use it. Highly recommend this washer.</p>
<p>Do not get the painted one the paint started rusting after 6moths . Warranty won't cover rust. </p>
<p>I've had this machine for nine months. Within a few months I began to question the cleanliness, or lack thereof, of my clothes. I reread the manual thinking I wasn't using the machine properly. After another few months I became more concerned but gave the machine the benifit of the doubt and did more pre-treating. But, two weeks ago, I did a very small load of white towels and white t-shirts that we'd used in our motorhome. They literally came out filthy - not one bit of grime had been removed AND the blue liquid softner had left blue spots all over them. I am now dealing with Sear's One Source customer service to have a tech check things out. I also bought the matching dryer and was looking forward to the steam feature. It doesn't. It 'spits' water on to the clothes - no steam - so the clothes come out of the dryer with spots of water all over them.</p>

I am 5'3" and I have to stand on my tiptoes to get the clothes out of the washer! I don't like the way the clothes end up all twisted, and I sometimes have to run the clothes through an extra rinse cycle to get the soap out. The cycles are extremely long as well. I also don't like that I have to wait for the machine to unlock if I want to add additional clothes. Shouldn't newer models always be better than their counterparts?
okay bought this washer had all the bells and whistles made many phone calls to custom solution after being on hold for a long time and putting me through to talk to someone about my water problem have to make it short there cutting me off here NO WARM WATER on Warm cycle after having a tech come and tell me that's the way there making this model not worth the money and don't put cycles on the machine if you can't use them .....TAKING IT BACK where is the honesty today and the sale people that know what there talking about.
6 month ago we bought these smart and efficient machine, peace of mind with them, the washer and the dryer are wonderful, at the beginning my wife was a little confuse with load, the sort of clothes etc, the only negative is the chime that is no laud
Looks great and is very quiet. I wish I would have repaired my 16 year old Whirlpool - it cleaned better. This is complicated when it comes to extra functions. The top locks so you always have to "pause" and wait for it to unlock. I don't like it.
I absolutely love this washer for many reasons. Lots of flexibility in the settings, ease of doing larger loads, and it's fairly quiet imo. It has done a great job cleaning and I love that it saves water.
Here's the problem and why I couldn't give it a high score - I was having the balance issues others were having, and even worse - for some reason it would not let me restart the load after rearranging. I am a bit disappointed in customer service, when I called about this issue they could give me no solution. Each time it happened I had to unplug the washer and plug it back in and then start up the rinse cycle to finish the load, because it would not start up any other way. It's supposed to start up if you hit the play button after rearranging. I tried hitting it, holding it, pushing power - rearranging repeatedly thinking it didn't like the balance. Nothing worked. It seemed to just freeze with the OE error on the screen with no other choice but to unplug.
I have now found a way to avoid the OE error. I was already following the instructions of not mixing heavy items with too many light items so I tried to turn down the spin speed. I now set my loads to medium spin speed and I haven't had any off balance messages since. Seems there's a bit of a learning curve to use these new top load HEs. So 3 stars is about what I can give for the frustration!
