Best purchase ever!

I bought 2 of these, one for my 8 year old and one for my 5 year old. I have to say they are amazing! They are exactly what I have been looking for since they always want to play games on my phone. Its like a mini IPAD for them. There are lots of fun, educational games, apps, music and books available. My 5 year old is able to do everything by herself. They loving taking pictures with the camera, doodling on the art pad and earning badges in their games. Best $99 dollars spent. Keeps them entertained in the car, at resturants, dr appointments! My only complaint is the battery dies fast. I wish they would have made an AC adapter for this item.

AWESOME!!

Bought 4 of these for my kids, from leapfrog.com I have to say I'm impressed the quality is great and plus it entertains my 2 year old girl, my 5 year old twins and my 7 year old! no more playing with mommys phone/tablet! The bad is the packaging its practically glued to the cardboard!!!! but other than practically runing the device I finally got it out, and my kids are in looooove!!!!!

loveee this game

Love this toy i have to daughters & they love there leappad its great that you can down load games to the leappad. Both of my girls are bad at keeping track of the regular game pieces you buy from the store. this is also very educational ive notice that since they have gotten this toy they are my more advance for their age. which is a big plus because ii get to brag about how smart they are even more :)

Leappad - Great fun for the kids!

The leap frog leap pad is a great game for young kids. The graphics are good quality and nice and bright. The only down side is that it sucks down the battery super fast so it's a good idea to have it plugged in most of the time. I was hoping the battery life would be at least as good as the leap frog leapster explorer, but it's not. Just buy the extra adapter to plug it in and I would give it a 9 out of 10 (simply a 9 for the inconvience of needing it plugged in).

The leap pad is great!

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it! I thought this would be the perfect gift for her because she loves to play on my iPad, I thought it would get her away from my iPad all together but she still wants to play on the iPad as well. But she's on her leap pad a lot more often now. The game is great though I love that it comes with two stylus' because we all know they're lost within days! The only thing I am ot happy with is the price of the games. 25 a piece is a little pricey for me. Especially since most of the games on a real iPad are only 99 cents.

Love it! Hours of fun!

I knew this was going to be a hot Christmas item so I bought it back in Oct/Nov. My daughter LOVES it and spends a lot of time playing with it. It is great for long car trips or if we are waiting at a restaurant. My only complaint is that the batteries drain very quickly so we invested in some rechargable batteries. It would be nice to have had a recharable battery and charger with it. The apps are also very expensive. It is actually often cheaper to buy the actual games on a B1G1 50% off deal than through the app center. I think it is crazy to charge $20 for an interactive book! Also from time to time it kind of freezes up. I am not sure if it it the leappad or the Pet Pals 2 game!

blew me away how much this tablet can do!

My 4 year old daughter got this for christmas, I was expecting it to be cool but I couldnt even imagine all the many things it can do and how extremely educating this tablet is. The Tinkerbell e-book I bought for this because I wanted her to continue growing her reading skills, but the animation and ability to record your own voice to the story far exceded my expectations! There are tons of educational games that challenge my daughters comprehension of the material she's learning. I am completely satisfied.. Leapfrog never disappoints! I have tried V-tech's comparable systems and they fail to measure up on all levels, voices are robotic at best, screens are pixelated...not worth the money at all. I am so happy that the LeapPad delivered! I am definately getting one for my son next year when he turns 3.

Great product. Has many levels to enjoy!

My daughter loves this product! The games are easy enough for her to navigate on her own. Only problem I have ... it doesn't come with a charger/adapter. The batteries drain really quick. I have replaced them 3 times since Christmas morning! So when purchasing, buy the charger!

I want the LeapPad Explorer extremely bad

I have been following this item for over a month now, I wanted to get it for my daughter for christmas. I have been so upset that it has been out of stock for so long and no new shipment has arrived for it. Several of my friends have this item for their children and it is just a great learning/fun device for young children!

Pink (girls) Leap frog ipad

I bought this pad for my daughter who is 5, she absolutly loves it. I have a Apple iPad, she loves to sit next to me while i'm using mine for school or work. She trys to look like she is hard at work on it. It is very user and kid friendly, she has learned to read alot more then her other classmates as well as do alot more math problems then others. She is only in kindergarden and is able to read and do math at a end of the year 1st grader. I am very pleased with the purchase, it has plenty of games and educational items for it. It is even fun for me to play around on it once in a while!

Pink Leappad for my princess

My daughter was so excited about getting this...although it was very hard to find her one we finally did. She doesnt really get into girly colors but for some reason with this one she was excited about her purple leap pad. the thing we lve most is her ability to choose what she wants to do and she loves taking pictures.

Perfect for Holiday Gift Giving

While we received a LeapPad from LeapFrog for review purposes, all options are my own and I plan to purchase a 2nd for Christmas for my daughter. With the biggest, brightest screen yet and the built-in tilt sensor, it's apparent out of the box LeapPad is a winner. Tilt it and the pet goes sliding across the screen making the kids giggle. And while it's fun for them to take pictures and videos of themselves and their family and create an All About Me story featuring their favorite subject, LeapPad lives up to the educational expectations typical of a LeapFrog product.

For example, the interactive books include three reading levels which automatically adjust as your child progresses. The pad works both with fingers and a stylus, and luckily a stylus tether is included. I would absolutely recommend LeapPad for it's intended age group, 4-9.

The LeapPad is an upgrade from the Leapster Explorer

The LeapPad Explorer is similar to the Leapster Explorer in many ways, but with a few differences . . .

1) The LeapPad Explorer has 2GB of memory verses the Leapster Explorer’s 512MB.

2) The LeapPad Explorer’s 5” screen is larger, but also brighter and sharper than the Leapster Explorer’s 3.2” screen.

3) The LeapPad Explorer has motion-based play and the Leapster Explorer does not. (One of our preschoolers’ favorite games to play is Roly Poly Picnic, in which they need to tilt the LeapPad to get a ball to roll over the desired object.) The technology is surprisingly accurate as far as how it responds to the user’s motion.

4) The LeapPad Explorer comes with a built-in digital camera/video recorder and microphone, while the Leapster Explorer’s digital camera/video recorder is an accessory that can be purchased separately. (As a parent, I think having less detachable pieces to lose is preferred.) I also want to say that the image quality is better. Although lots of light is still required with the LeapPad Explorer to capture a good image or video, the combination of the better screen and a higher resolution, allows the LeapPad Explorer’s camera to produce a better image.

5) The LeapPad Explorer comes with an extra stylus, where the Leapster Explorer does not. (Somehow our children managed to pull the stylus off the string on our Leapster Explorer. We still haven’t located it and are lucky that the unit also works with the touch of a finger.)

6) The Leapster Explorer has a charging dock that is available to be purchased separately, but the LeapPad Explorer unfortunately does not have one currently available. (I highly recommend using rechargeable batteries in the LeapPad Explorer, especially if you have more than one child using it frequently.)

7) The LeapPad Explorer retails for $99.99, while the Leapster Explorer retails for $69.99 plus $24.99 for the camera/video recorder attachment.

Three features by which my family was highly impressed in the LeapPad Explorer are . . .

The included Art Studio App is pretty powerful for a toy’s image editor. One can take a photo captured by the LeapPad Explorer and make it black and white, tint it, decorate it with stamps, draw on it, and more. The results turn out great.

As I had previously mentioned, the motion detector technology is surprisingly accurate. It is a key feature that our children enjoy very much and, if it had failed to be accurate, our children would likely have been very frustrated. LeapFrog really did well with this feature.

Like with the Leapster Explorer, the LeapPad Explorer adjusts to your child’s skill levels. (We have twins and it’s great that they can both play the same game under different usernames even though they learn at different speeds.)

How could the LeapPad Explorer be improved?

One of my main complaints about the Leapster Explorer was that it was a little on the heavy side for a child to hold with one hand for an extended period of time. The LeapPad Explorer is just as heavy.

As previously mentioned, it would be ideal to have a charging dock (or another type of charger) for the LeapPad Explorer. I hope this accessory will be available in the future.

Although, the 400Mhz processor is not overly slow, it would have been nice to have a slightly faster processor in the LeapPad Explorer than in the Leapster Explorer. As difficult as it is for children to wait for something to download, it is probably more difficult for adults who are accustomed to using adult tablets and e-readers.

Although the LeapFrog Explorer games can be used in both the LeapPad Explorer and the Leapster Explorer, not all the apps are interchangeable. So, if we have one app the children particularly loved on their LeapPad, we may not necessarily be able to get it for the Leapster Explorer and vice versa.

NOTE: Although I received a complimentary sample unit for my family to use and provide feedback, all thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

Awesome learning device.

My kids love them. They are playing and learning at the same time. I love that the skill learning changes with the pace of your child and you can keep track of their learning with the learning path. They love that the games are fun and that their are videos they can add to watch.

The LeapFrog LeapPad is a Must Have!

We recently reviewed this product for LeapFrog, but my opinion is mine and mine alone. I highly highly recommend the LeapPad. In fact I am planning to purchase several more as gifts for my nieces and nephews. We love it that much!
Since the first day we recieved it, it's hardly gotten a break. It's been almost 2 weeks and we've gone through 4 battery changes. Each set lasts about 2 days of non stop play.

My 4 year old has memorized the songs from the Letter Factory video and her penmanship has improved leaps and bounds after a few rounds on her PetPad. She ends her days with an ebook that reads her to sleep.
When she's not learning, she's taking pictures and videos with the built in camera. I love downloading all her art and seeing what pictures she's taken when she thinks we're not looking.

While some might think $99 is a lot for a kid's toy, but it is so much more than a toy. This is durable -- been dropped a few times already, once even on concrete and survived -- I wouldn't be able to say that if it was my iPad that she dropped.
