I got this smoker this past Christmas and so far have smoked a brisket, spare ribs (twice), pulled pork butt (twice), two chickens and a load of Cornish game hens all on the same gas bottle and all in below freezing weather. The smoker was able to attain and maintain temps up to and including 265 without any problems!
I also have a Brinkmann charcoal smoker and a Royal Oak electric smoker and on occassion I have used my gas grill to smoke meats. No more. This thing is a cinch to operate and keeps a steady temp and has produced great food!
Just got it home and the instructions are horrible! They show you how to put it together but not how to use it, tried to go online and Masterbuilt doesn't even have this listed as one of their products.
Took it out of the box completely today to put together and it came DAMAGED! Called Sears and they said I have to drive over a hundred miles to their wharehouse to get another one. Taking it back today and getting a better one at *****.
Bought this for my husband's birthday - he said it's the BEST birthday gift he's ever received.
This is the first time I have ever smoke meat. This is a simple, sturdy, well built smoker. The door is insulated and seals great. It was easy to maintain heat for the 6 hours I was smoking and the meat came out great. I smoked three full St Louis Style rib racks (had to cut them in half to fit) and I had plenty of room to spare. In fact, the smoker comes with 4 shelves, but can accommodate 8. It will hold a ton of food. I couldn't be happier with the box.Going for a Brisket and pork ****/shoulder next weekend.
My husband loves it!!
to me its work fine
I invested in this smoker to try making applewood smoked bacon. Googled recipes and was anxious to try it. Smoker unit kept 200 degrees very steadily for 3 hours; my pork belly bacon turned out really nice. Few days later, 2 smoked turkeys turned out well, also. Temperature of smoker was steady. Will try salmon next time.
This is the third vertical smoker that I have owned and by far the best. I bought this about a week before Thanksgiving as my burner went bad in my other smoker and the burner was about half the price of this smoker. I used it the day after Thanksgiving to smoke a 12 lb turkey and boy did it work. The air temp was about 32 degrees with 15+ MPH wind. The smoker held a temp of 300 degrees at about 3/4 throttle on the gas the water pan was full also. I could not do this with the other two smokers even without water. It also maintained a steady temp with very little adjustment. The wood chip pan and water pan are set up nicely and it will hold a lot of wood chips. The insulated door is a nice option on this smoker and there were no air leaks around the door the unit was really tight. The only thing I did not like was the thermometer it was off about 50 degrees with no way to calibrate it. I used a high quality thermometer anyhow as this is something you should not skimp on.
have done ribs and salmon turns out real good
This is a wonderful product. Slow cooking is the perfect outdoor way to perfection. Food taste is carried to a whole new level. User friendly even for those of us that don't cook. Unbelievable!!!
I purchased this smoker in June 2012 and I have not been the least bit disappointed. It is easy to use, holds temps steady for hours, love the multiple racks and no problems with the wood burning perfectly for hours. The thermometer is accurate and the meats I have cooked range from ribs, brats, wings and dogs. The only thing I would think would make it even better would be three door lock latches, not just one, placed top, middle and bottom.
I got this smoker for my husband for fathers day and he loves it. So do I because I get to eat the wonderful things that he smokes. He uses both charcoal and gas to regulate the heat and so far everything has come out delicious. I would reccomend this product to any wife wanting to make her life easier. :)
I already own an electric smoker for the home and wanted a gas one for traveling and this fits the budget , smokes at a nice even temperature and the frame keeps the smoke sealed in nicely !
Just bought this today and will try it out tommrow. It took me about 45 min. to assemble (was not in a hurry). Quality seems to be good. After I finished, I heated it on high for about 15 min to do a burn off. Temp quickly went to 400. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I have not used it yet. I have had the round smokers in the past, but this one with the front load door and 4 shelves looks like it is going to be much easier to use. For new buyers, don't mess with the electric ones. You can not get high enough heat. I have a 4lb beef brisket that I will put in this tommrow. Also got this $20 off on sale, plus the clerk found me a $5 coupon. While your there get a bag of the mesquite wood chips (use just a few) and some of the Jack Daniels wood chips. Soak what you are going to use in water for an hour before putting in the smoker. Sears also sells this wood chip metal container for about $5 which keeps the chips together. Anyway, I am so far pleased with this unit. For the price, it seems to be pretty well built. After using it I will come back and write another review.
I used this smoker to smoke pork ham etc. and it always comes out perfect this is a great product if you enjoy truly good BBQ. It has great size for plenty of items to fit. I do recamond getting a cover for it so weather does not mess it up. Over all great product.
simple to put together, easy to use, easy to clean, small footprint with large capacity. Quality construction with high grade materials. Produces peofessional quality results. Very nice appliance for a VERY reasonable price.
I bought this smoker as a Christmas gift to myself a few years back and I gotta say, it was the best $180 bucks I have ever spent. I was really easy to assemble and easier to operate. Through a little trial and error I have experimented with a few recipes and have had some incredible results! Im a huge KC Chiefs fan and huge fan of the BBQ from that area. My smoker allows me to make some awesome true KC style BBQ, so good Im gonna open my own catering service featuring my pork shoulder from this smoker! The smoker changed my life and provides a hidden passion I never knew I had. Enjoy! Sincerely,Big Chiefs BBQ

This smoker produces great food, you just have to play with it to get the correct temperature for the grill. that is the only set back..
I received the Masterbuilt Smoker as an early Christmas gift. After assmebly, I tested it by throwing a whole chicken, scallops and brats in the smoker. It took longer than expected to get up to the proper temperature (about 45 minutes to reach 165 degrees). Once the smoker got up to 165 it maintained a constant temp. pretty well. Having the ability to use up to four racks is a plus with this smoker. I can't wait to use the smoker on New Year's Eve for some venison, brisket, and ribs.
This smoker was a really good deal for the price (I paid $150 with sale price and discounts). I had looked at other smokers for $200 more so when I saw this and the quality I had to give it a try. It was well wrapped and took about an hour to put together. The instructions have no recipies but youtube has loads so that is where I got my smoking instructions. Did chicken 1st time and it was so good! It just fell off the bone. One word of advice, use hickory wood as it is mellow and doesnt tend to oversmoke the food. Overall a very good purchase and I will be keepng this for many years to come. Great prodduct for the 1st time smoker. Cant go wrong.
This smoker is just okay. The seal is not that tight so smoke escapes. The thermomoter is useless, buy a good digital one with two probes - one for the meat, one for the internal temp (skewer through a small potato so the tip is exposed, place that on a rack near your meat). It also is hard to control the temp. I use my enclosed electric smoker rather than this one. Also, buy a cover, it rusts easily. The racks rust easily too, keep them indoors. I haven't used it enough to comment on the ignitor but I'm sure it will go out at some point since every ignitor on any grill I've ever had goes bad. The chip tray can be a bit challenging to get to while in use but not insurmountable.
There are better options out there.
