Mattel Red Rover Game
- Great dog-gone matching fun!
- Hours of delight-filled hiding and seeking, too!
- Comes with 12 color-coded bones, each with a number, shape or letter.
- Perfect party time game for small groups.
"Santa" brought this game last year for our 3 year olds. And it is still a favorite in our house. I agree with the other review it teaches in a very indirect way. There are only 13 bones so the shapes and numbers are limited in what they cover.
You can press the nose to hear the clue again. Great so they don't get frustrated when they miss it due to the shear excitement Rover creates. Rover is very gentle when they don't get it right. "aww, not that bone friend, try again" We don't play this exactly like intended, we sit at the table so when Rover tells everyone to line up behind his backpack we just ignore it. Less competitive this way.
The bones are a bit tricky for little ones to insert just right. A few times they had the correct bone and Rover insisted they chose the wrong one. The grooves on the ends have to be inserted in just the right position or he will say it's incorrect. Minor setback but otherwise we love Rover.
The kids loved it and so did I. They learn colors shapes numbers and have a lot of fun doing it. Very sturdy and easy to store.
Cute game, gets old quick. My 4 year old played it maybe 6 times, once it's figured out it's just another toy in playroom. Bones are stored in backpack, it has sharp edges and snaps closed. Child didnt have finger far enough over when closing it and it pinched finger and caused bad cut. Not safe for little ones. Too boring for older ones.
Needs volume control. Other than that this is a great learning game for toddlers! My daughter already knows her numbers, letters and colors but she loves running around the room looking for the bones. For toddlers that are just learning this is a wonderful way to do it! I love that it has 2 levels of play.
Purchased the Red Rover game for our 3 year old. He loved playing with it except it only has a few bones so he is only really learning about a couple letters (A,B,C,D) and a few shapes, and a few numbers. Wish it would of come with all the letters and numbers instead.
My 3 year old loves this game, but I wish it had more numbers, colors and shapes for him to find.
I purchased this toy for my 2 year old son, however, it it my 3 1/2 year old daughter who is playing with it. When the dog tells the kids which bone to choose, the kids can't be making too much noise because then it is too hard to hear what color or number he is saying. Aside from that, very cute game and they seem to enjoy it!

the game has a harder game for older kids and a simple one for younger ones. it's perfect for my 5 yr old kindergartener, while still being plyable for my 4 yr old. my 5 yr old even "teaches" my younger child to do the harder game.
This is my sons all time favorite toy. He's only 4 but he says "i've waited my whole life for Red Rover, Red Rover". He plays this game all the time and everytime we see it in the store he wants to rush home to his. The older kids like the game as well. We also loved the shopping experience we've had. We love Mattel!
Entertaining game for children. Both my boys love it!
I bought this toy for my granddaughter for Christmas, December 2010. This was a requested toy. I keep it at my home she plays with it everytime she visits.
it only lasted a few days and the button inside the nose stopped working...i hate it cause my 2 year old LOVES it but she cant play the games now very dissapointing would be a great toy if they figured out the bugs!
My four year old daughter loves this game she plays it with us very chance we get it's also built well she hasn't been able to tear it up like other more expensive toys we've bought her very good product
At our house the whole family loves this game. Anyone can win. Kids 3 & 4 love it. Great to learn colors, shapes and numbers. Would love to order more numbers and letters to the game.
The Red Rover Game was the best thing I ever bought my 3 year old son. He loves to play with it. You can play two types of games. one game is for colors only. The next game is for colors, shapes, and numbers. You can play the came by yourself or with lots of friends. It teaches but it is fun too.
My 2.5 already knows all of his letters, numbers, colors and about 6 shapes. I thought this toy would be great for reinforcing what he already knows. The toy only comes with 12 "bones" - 4 shapes, letters A-D and numbers 1-4 - which is not a challenge at all. It is also slow with the commands, which makes for a boring game. The "tap his nose" feature does not work well and should really be a button.
