I love my new DVD recorder. I am copying 16 years of camcorder tapes and the DVD Management system allows the video to be set up into sections so they are easy to access. I plan to copy VHS tapes next which is a one-button process. It also has USB and SD inputs as well. You can tape one program and watch another at the same time which was important to me. I use DVD-R when I plan to keep the DVDand DVD-RW when I plan to overwrite the DVD - many other formats are also compatible. It has a heap of options so it does take a while to work out but well worth it! My Sears salesman had good knowledge of product.

Expected more from panasonic

Wish I'd taken it back when I had a chance. Takes about a full minute to boot up & shut down. VCR doesn't record tuner. Freezes up often, has to be reset or unplugged. Changing channels is an adventure. Fast forward doesn't work right. Junk... waste of money. Sears should drop this one.

Panasonic DMV EZ48 VK I am on my 5th one.

We are returning our 5th one this one will not record what we select to record. These are some or the other problems with some of the other 4 recorders. Recorder will change channels at will. The tray does not always open and close when you push the button. When trying to change channels one at a time you may have to push the button 2 or 3 times before it moves at all. After it moves sometimes it will go back to where it started. There are times when you move 6 or 7 channels and it will go back to where it started. Twice it has recorded the wrong channel going back, the correct channel was selected. When you set the picture size to 4.3 it does not fill the screen, and I have black bars top and bottom. Sometimes there are gray bars extending the black bars both top and side. The fast forward jumps to high from 2 10 to 30, thirty is way too fast to know where you are. We would like to have one that works if Panasonic will test it and send it to me direct.

I love the ease of use of the Panasonic dmr ez48

I am looking forward to using the panasonic dmr ez48vk. It was easy to set up and I love all the features it has. I especially love the fact I can copy family vhs movies to dvd and vise versa. Learning how to use it has been especially easy with good directions in the service manual.

Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD Recorder/VCR Combo

Unit was great while it operated properly. Ocassionally when fast forwarding DVD was freezing and drive started to make a chattering noise, at this point the unit wouldn't do anything and just hung up. The only way to get the unit operating again was to unplug it to reset the unit. Ended up having to return it for a refund.

Excellent Technology in DVD, VCR, and Photos

I bought two of these and love them. The DVD-Ram discs are great and very clear. You can record one channel and watch another. You can also chase play and be recording and watching the same show as it records. The photo options are incredable. Who needs a Digital Photo Frame when you have this. You can have slide shows on your TV that are continious and even run with background music. My family loves these. Buy one you will not be sorry.

Panansonic DMR EZ48VK works great and does everything I want.

I really like this machine it does everything I need and want I only have an antenna and will tape shows on a disc and watch later, the movies or shows are also very clear and it plays both DVDs and VHS tapes with no problems, easy to program and use. I liked it so much I brought a second one. Good brand name.

Panasonic DVD Recorder VCR

I've only used it a few days, but so far it's great.Back of unit says it was made in Sept. 2010.Instructions are good, took about 15-20 mins to read.Hook up to satelite and tv 5 mins.Especially like that it has S-Video input and output.Especially like that it records to Dual Layer DVDs.Unit seems well built and is a little heavier than other brands.DVD tray works fast.Recordings look and sound good.Haven't tried the VHS part yet.All functions that I've tried responded immediately.Remote has large buttons and good layout.Menus and functions easy to use.Front display is easy to read and shows all revelant info.

This Panasonic DVD/VHS Recorder/Player is awesome

This Panasonic DVD/VHS Recorder/Player is awesome. It is the latest and greatest update and upgrade from the 1997 model I initially purchased for my son. The 1997 model lasted almost 4 years before dying, and we had purchased the extended warranty so when the Sears repair folks could not fix it, they replaced it with this model at no cost. The number of hours this unit was operated in the past nearly four years was probably 4X that of what a normal family would use. The quality of recording, the ease of use and output quality is superb. I would recommend this over any other brand.

2nd unit

This is the 2nd identical Panasonic DVD/VHS unit I've owned.  The first one was not purchased at Sears.  The first one had the RAM, I think it was, go out at just 2 years old.  I'd also had numerous other problems with it.  It's full of idiosyncrasies.  It would have cost a little over $200 to fix. Can get a new one for a bit over that.   I took a chance and purchased another identical one from Sears because it works well with my Panasonic TVs.  They "talk" to each other.  But as to whether I'd recommend this unit to a friend........based on the first one NO I would not recommend it.  This one is not yet a month old and I've had to reset it numerous times already.  I expected more from Panasonic.  I'm not at all pleased with this item.  Because of what happened with the first unit, I purchased a 5 yr warranty, which I never do, but I'm not going to purchase another one 2 yrs from now!!  Not up to Panasonic standards.

Wonderful easy to use Recorder. Actually replaced earlier model

Easy to use. Replaced earlier version that went bad after 5 years. I always buy the extended warranty for the 30 extra bucks. If you use a good quality recordable media you will not have any problems.  Setup took less than 5 min. Panasonic is well known for its quality electronics. If you take the time and read the manual the devise works great. My wife uses it for recording all the time. Easy to transfer home recorded vhs tapes to dvd. The added feature of the SD card is nice. I like this so much as I did the earlier version I cannot think of any con. My old remote is even identical even thou the models are different.

Good overall features, but breaks down within 1 year.

The features on this items were everything I wanted, although it was slow to load dvd/vcr/menu, etc.  I could accept the slow response time because the price was good.  I purchased a unit which lasted approximately 8 months.  It was still under warranty so I returned it to Samsung and was pleased with the turnaround time for repairs.  The unit worked two months.  Same error messages as before.  Call me stupid for purchasing a second unit just because I liked the features.  The second one didn't last a good six months.  What a piece of junk!

Dubbing Synch Problems a bummer

This is a nice DVD recorder, and has many nice features but the 3 downsides to this machine is that the synch of your VHS tape and DVD will have serious delays in lip synch. The other disappointments are no built in fan which causes a short life for this machine and there is no S-Video inputsso you have less clear images.Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board and fix their many disappointing features.Whats sad is there are so many nice features, menu display, large LCD panel, good design , but the above flaws have me sorry that I purchased this blunder.
