Get On the Road to Fitness with the Proform Whirlwind Upright Exercise Bike
The Proform Whirlwind Bike gets you to the finish line and has you beating the competition, even if it means beating your own personal best as it gets you to up the ante a little higher each time. With its patented RaceTrack™ feature, you can monitor your progress in a track-style display so you are always on top of your workout.
You’ll be amazed at the total body workout you’ll get while riding it as the XP Whirlwind 280 Upright Exercise Bike works a bit like an elliptical trainer with its Dual-Action Upper-Body Arms feature that trains your upper and lower body simultaneously so you tone all your major muscle groups at a time. You can vary the resistance by working your legs against your arms and vice versa or just use your arms or legs. The powerful resistance system is provided by a fan/flywheel that uses the power of wind to keep you cool while working your muscles, so the faster you pedal, the more you increase your resistance and the cooler you feel. With a ride that feels so natural, you can almost imagine the breeze in your hair!
Comfort features include an adjustable seat that slides easily until you find the position that is just right for you. Bigger and cushier, the seat guarantees not only a productive workout, but a comfortable ride, while textured pedals provide a stable platform for your workout. Other convenience features include a brightly lit LCD display with... read more

Good, solid bike

I disagree with the poor reviews. I also bought the older version of this bike, and it did start to breakdown, but that was after over 10 years of 3-6 days per week of use. The new bike is sturdier and quieter. Compared to the competition, it is a great bike for the price.

Bearings failed but cheap repair ...

Bearings failed after light use.  However, the bearings used are the old-fashioned American style bottom bracket bearings used in older bikes and still in some kids bikes.  I replaced the worn out bearings with a new set of one piece "Ashtabula BB030" bearings.  These are a high quality 10 ball bearing race (compared to the 9 ball original set).  The bike now runs very smoothly - the cost of the replacement was $15.95 plus a bit of effort to get the old bearings out, clean up and put the new ones in place.  You will need a couple of bike tools - a puller to get the pedals off and another bike tool called a Pin Spanner, I used a yellow handled Pin spanner that did fit the key slots nicely.  Cheap fix and the bike now runs better than new ..

Not recommended

This appeared to be the perfect machine for me. I needed both an upper and lower body workout at a reasonable price, and this bike offered this at a great price. I purchased the bike in the store after trying it out. After assembly (I am very mechanically inclined) the bike appeared to functioning perfectly, and the workout was just as I had hoped for. However, after only 3 weeks of daily use (20 minute workouts) it started to make a squeaking noise and I felt a vibration in the left pedal. Because I had read the reviews for this bike I knew that this was the beginning of the end for the bearings. But this is where it gets good for Sears. Their online return procedure is exemplary (return or exchange in 5), provided that you can get the bike back to the store (no problem for me). A very simple and painless return to the store. I am now getting the Schwinn AD6, the quality and build are superior.

Please do not buy

This was the perfect bike for me. But the quality is awful. A pedal just broke off, the steel shaft broke!. Pay a bit more and get something that might last

I am riding every day! It is so easy! The bike doen't take up much room and, when I pedal backwards the fan cools me off. Yes, I like this!

just make sure your put the arms on the right way or the handle bars will hit you in the thighs.

Good Bike

Bought 3 of these bikes, First one back in 1996 and love using them. Perfect for my needs; love the upper and lower mobility. They do have a problem; after some use the pedals do brake off. Cheap metal rod that is screwed into the pedal arm. Had to change it couple of times. Can't beat the price for what you get.

JUNK! STAY AWAY!!!!

I bought this bike in Feb 2010. Right after the 3 months warranty has expired the Electronic Display started to malfunction, but I wasn't too concerned since I'm using my own heart rate monitor to calculate the calories burned. I used it on average 2-3 times a week for 30min or so. in March 2011 one of the pedals just broke, had to order a new one - $45, few months later the other pedal broke had to buy it again - another $45. Then couple of months ago I started to hear clanking noise and resistance was getting too strong on and off, until it got to the point where it was impossible to move the pedals. And now I have a useless piece of junk taking up space on my backyard! The biggest joke is the warranty on the frame! What can possibly happen to a frame? Stay away from this product, don't waste your money on this junk! It doesn't even deserve the one star rating, Sears need to create a speacial negative star rating for this product!
