Why is my Frigidaire washer not agitating?

From what you are describing it sounds like the agitator is stripped out. Usually this will happen to the auger section of this type agitator only. (This is the upper section of the agitator that pushes or pulls the clothes down into the main part of the agitator.) This motion is what causes the clothes to circulate through the water.

If this is the problem, the complete agitator will have to be replaced along with the cap.

The cap has an o-ring that prevents water from getting down inside the agitator gears. If this is not the problem please resubmit your question with more specific details.

Remove the fabric softener #66, cap #67 & screw #56 so you can pull out the agitator. Use a putty knife to release the clips so you can raise the top up & remove the front panel. Please see the images provided for details.

When the washer develops problems it is nice to have a place to go for advice. This site is like always having a tech on speed dial. It would help the expert provide a better answer if you can add the washer model number to this thread. If you do decide to let a technician diagnose and make repairs, an option is the Sears Home Services link below. I also attached a video that may help.

Morning Jim.  That's your model number and it's very helpful that you have supplied that to us.  I'm wondering if that lid switch might still be failing some how.  Do you hear any clicking when engaging?  If your washer will not fill, the lid switch may not be what you need; if it will fill but will not wash you may need the lid switch replaced.

Here is a video that will step you thorough the process of replacing the lid switch, please

: Video .  If you feel you would need further assistance,  or if you feel like you would be more comfortable

having an expert resolve your issue, I would strongly recommend Sears Home Service.com. When you do,

make sure to take advantage of their 10% off coupon available to you for making your Sears Service appointment on line.

Without a make or model number I will not be able to give you a specific answer. Usually broken glass will not cause the agitator to stop working. If the rug was too heavy or too large it could have damaged the transmission or caused the agitator splines to strip. This is what secures the agitator to the transmission shaft. If your washer has the auger type agitator, glass may have worked its way in the auger gears. This would usually cause only the top portion of the agitator to stop working. I would recommend pulling the agitator off & inspecting the auger gears & the splined surfaces.

If you still need help on this issue, please resubmit your question with a valid model number.
