Adjusting mower deck belt

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. The only belt adjustment on the tractor is the rod you have already found. I have not had found a need to adjust this rod very often. Before you make any adjustments, I recommend checking all the parts of the deck. All of the pulleys should turn free and the idler should mover free. If all of these check ok, go ahead and adjust the rod. Just remember to readjust the rod if you ever install a new belt.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the tractor.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I will be happy to help you. Over the years, we have sold a few different models of the LT1000 and the belt routing changed slightly. I have posted an image below that has the instructions for replacing both belts. Just click on the image to enlarge it. If the instructions do not match your model, please reply below with the model number off the tractor. The model number is located under the seat and should begin with 917.

I hope this is helpful.

Mower deck belt destroyed

The top of the deck having debris on it likely did not help. Typically if the belt is in this condition it will either be a pulley causing it or the belt got outside of a belt keeper and was riding on the keeper.

Check all the pulleys. Check in the V of the mandrel and engine pulleys. Make sure the new belt is on correctly and inside all of the belt keepers.

Adjust mower deck belt

Mark T is out on vacation so I will be taking on his questions while he's away. I've been over the information you've provided for the situation on your tractor. Notice around each pulley there should be a belt keeper. If the belt keeper is missing then the belt is going to fall off when you disengage. Each pulley on the deck has a belt keeper, so if you do not see one at each pulley, it's missing. If you do see them, it's possible that they have been pushed away at some point (belt jamming will usually cause it). The keepers should all be almost touching the pulley. It should be very close but not touching. If you can move the belt easily between the keeper and the pulley, it's too far away and you'll need to be bend it back into place. Let me know what it looks like and we can proceed if necessary.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I'm sorry but I was not able to locate the drive belt routing diagram nor the Operator's Manual.

I suggest taking the mower to Lawn and Garden service center and they can likely figure out how to route the belt.

Craftsman Mower Deck Belt Issue

Follow what TC has suggested for this. I, too, believe that the PTO may not be traveling its full distance and that will cause the belt to have slack in it.

Let me know what you find and we can proceed as necessary.
