Why is my Kenmore dryer making a loud thumping noise?

I have a Kenmore dryer model number 110.66872500 that makes a loud thumping noise when in use.

Thank you for your answer. I have checked the drum rollers as well as the lint container to see if it is inserted correctly. It appears as if a small plastic piece attached to the inside side of the lid area is protruding just enough to connect with the drum when it is in use. I manually rolled the drum somewhat to see if the noise is the same as what I have been hearing when the dryer is in use, and it is. I have a service repair person coming this morning to check it out. Possibly that plastic piece can be removed or should have been removed at the time the dryer was assembled...just guessing...don't know for sure until it is serviced. It is a very hard piece of plastic and is not flexible.

What you’re describing sounds like the drum rollers. When the drum rollers are cold it may take a few minutes of the dryer running to warm them up. I would recommend checking the drum rollers.
