Why is my dishwasher running too long?

I have a Kenmore dishwasher with Smart wash and Sani-rinse. Lately the sanitized light flashes. The trouble shooting guide indicates the water may not be hot enough but water at the sink is fine. Ran it today with smart wash and only a few dishes. It ran over and over on the wash cycle for two hours. Makes me think the sensor is dirty or bad. Is that possible? Can it be cleaned?

I’m sorry; you forgot to provide us with your model number. Most sensor type dishwashers will keep running as long as soil is detected in the rinse cycle water. If the sensor or water heating circuit fails you will get an error code in the display. This type of problem could also be caused by poor water supply or the unit not draining completely. No, the sensor cannot be cleaned. Please resubmit with a valid model number so we will be able to help you further if needed.
