Why do the shuttle hook and bobbin keep falling out in my Kenmore sewing machine model 385.12216?

I have a Kenmore sewing machine model 385.12216. The manual is worthless. How do they connect in and keep from falling out? I can't get the shuttle hook and bobbin to stay in. If I'm lucky, things go in and work for a time, then pop out while sewing. How are they supposed to be connected so that they stay seated and we can sew or do we just junk the machine?

The images below show the procedures for removing the shuttle hook and bobbin case. Use the procedures to remove these parts and carefully examine them for damage. Clean the shuttle race area thoroughly and follow the instructions below for replacing these components. If the bobbin case and shuttle hook keep falling out, you can try replacing these components. The part number for the shuttle hook is 532096007. The bobbin case is part number 647515006. You can order these parts online from the

Sears PartsDirect

website. If cleaning and/or replacing these parts do not correct the problem, then the sewing machine will need service by a technician.
