Why is my Maytag washer making a high squeal noise when it spins?

I have a Maytag washer model number LAT8426 I just got it used and I tried it out and when it went to the spin cycle, it started a high squeal. It eventually stopped right before the cycle stopped. The belts just about jump off the pulleys. Is this the way they should be?

A high pitched squeal on this model could come from several different areas. The motor, belts, spin bearing or brake assembly. The belts on this model normally ride loose. I recommend removing the belts for inspection. If the sides of the belt are shinny I recommend replacing them. If you still have the squealing I recommend having the brake & spin bearing checked.
