My Craftsman riding mower starts, but it doesn't move when it is in gear. It just makes a whine noise.

It is a Craftsman 15.5 hp riding mower with a hydrostatic transmission. It was working fine. Now it will not move when put in gear. When the mower is off and in gear, the tractor will not move.

Without a model number, I can only give you some general information about hydrostatic tractors.

If you can push the tractor when the transport lever is pulled out, the brakes on the tractor are not causing the problem. If you can't push the tractor with the transport lever out, the brake pucks are probably stuck against the brake disc on the transaxle.

If it just started not driving and you know the drive belt is turning the input pulley on the transaxle, the transaxle might have leaked some oil and needs oil added.

If you need more information, send another email and include a model number and more details of what you have tried.
