How can I check a recall on Kenmore electric range model 790.xxxx?
I have a Kenmore range model 790.96011405. The serial number is VF61914672. How can I check on a Kenmore range recall. My stove has had 2 similar issues. The left front burner seems to have no heat control sensor. It seriously burned one pan and the house filled up with smoke on medium heat. It warped a second heavy duty pan also on medium heat. It took 3 tries to turn off the stove. It was purchased in May of 2006. It is no longer under warranty.

I also have a Kenmore electric range model 790.xxx.. It has had the left front burner control replaced in 2001 because of the inability to control the temperature. It would turn bright red on low simmer and then could not be shut off. The problem is starting to happen again and the right rear burner at times will turn bright red on a low setting creating a fire hazard if the stove is unattended for even a short time. This stove should be recalled before someone has a house fire.
I don't see any recalls or common problems on this model of Kenmore range. The burner has a temperature limiter that will protect the ceramic cook top. The infinite burner switch controls the burner. If the infinite burner switch was stuck, it would cause the burner to heat constantly but the temperature limiter on the burner would likely cycle the burner off periodically to protect the cook top. I recommend that you call a service technician to diagnose and repair this type of range failure.
