How do I hook up a power cord to my Sears Kenmore elite Oasis dryer? The cord is a power supply cord for a 4 conductor wall outlet.

This new cord has 4 wires--red, green, black, and white. The dryer has only 3 hook up points and there are no colors showing on the original gray power cord for a 3 conductor wall outlet. When looking at the back of the dryer, in what order do I hook up the wires from left to right?

You will need to remove the 3 wire cord, and there should be a copper strap connecting the white wire terminal to the chassis of the machine. This must be disconnected. You should be able to remove the screw from the dryer body and bend the strap over so the hole goes onto the white wire post. Insert the new cord (using a proper strain relief connector), and connect the ground(green) wire to the dryer body where you removed the strap. You may have to use an alternate mounting hole if the wire is too short. The other wires simply go to the corresponding posts, based on the color of the internal wires already connected: white-white; black-black & red-red.

The image below shows the installation procedures for a 4 wire power cord from a dryer. This illustration should help you properly install the 4 prong plug.
