Maytag refrigerator control panel lights are flashing and the ice door opens and closes constantly. How do I stop this?

I have a 4 year old Maytag French Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerator. All light on the control panel are
fast-flashing and the ice door that opens to despense the ice opens and closes repeatedly. I'm not sure if it is cooling properly because of the constantly flashing lights. What can I do to stop this?

Maytag Model # MFI2568AES, same exact problem with the panel lights all flashing and the flapper on the ice door opening and closing constantly. Mine is way past the warranty. Spoke with a Maytag rep(1800 688 9900) on 2 different occasions and they told me that there was no recall and that I would be responsible for all repair costs. I asked for the supervisor and spoke with Krystal who informed that they were aware of the problem and that mine now would be fixed for free.

Also the fridge seems to not be working but my freezer is working just fine, interesting? Please let me know asap, I know it is Christmas, thx much, Merry Christmas.

Well that is well and good if holds up , however the soldering iron and the wick and the solder and the experience to install the caps in correct and not damage the rest of the board, includes static electricty , you should not handle the board without a static strap on the keep you grounded, and any other thing that has become weak and possiblly cause a failure later. The worst you will be out is the price of a new board, which is where you were in the first place. Good Luck

My Maytag Refrigerator model mfi2568aes has stopped working for the second time. Although there is a known problem with this model with the board Maytag has refused to take care of it. I've lost hundreds of dollars twice now. Maytag, never again. Your customer service is worthless too.

Chris, I'm very sorry I gave you the wrong number. The updated board for this model is # W10310240 and will use the code listed on the fridge. The code 0302 will only allow the unit to run but will not work any of the features.

Scott, thank you for your assistance. The 67006390 is for the housing box of the hv control board. I put the original board back in and it started cooling correctly but my reset problem isn't fixed. I noticed that the original board appears to have a factory rework done to it which may be causing some of my problems with programming. The original board had what looked like a sharpie writing in green on it around the serial number with a +1 so this is probably not an original board off the assembly line. I did buy the refrigerator new from best buy in 08 though. I checked the code for the original board and it was indeed 1411 as expected but the new board will not accept 1411 and will only take 0302 as it's programming code. I assume the code is actual octal functions for the controller board so it can talk to the relays for ice, water etc. I would make sense that 0302 would not be a good solution to this problem? Am I right on this assumption?

Chris, I checked with the source on this and there is an updated board # 67006390 that will need to be installed on this model. This board will use the code listed on the fridge. I'm sorry for the confusion. I hope this will help you.

Scott, you weren't kidding about the instructions being tricky since they sent me the instructions for a dryer :(
It was actually fairly trivial to replace the board and program the controller board. I tried to use the code from the inside of my fridge which was 1411 but it did not take this code. After looking around the web most people that had 1411 were also not able to program the board and they had to use 0302. Now though, neither the fridge or the freezer is cooling. I have seen a few posts like this and it appears that the board was fault on arrival. It is also not making ice. The fan is running but I am not so sure about the condenser fan on the back. Is there a fuse or a reset switch that I can try? My next step is to try and put the old board back in.

Chris, yes the new board will need to be programmed. The board will come with the instructions to program it and it can be confusing and kind of tricky. I would recommend having a technician make this repair. If you would like more assistance, let me know and I will assist you further.

Called today of course had to escalate and they agreed to send me the board and I could call a certified technician. The customer support rep couldn't find any record of problems with this model ( find this hard to believe), but I was able to pin the manager down and she admitted that this is a known problem. I am furious because I do not believe I should have to pay anything after looking and seeing that this is a known problem! The manager warned me that it may need to be programmed and she could not warranty the part if I replaced it.

Questions:
Is there any trick to replacing the HV control board myself?

Is this common that the models firmware differs on the boards. I do see a header for programming the board so I can assume that this is a possibility.

My model is MFI2568AES serial 12754004LT.

I don't know what I am going to do yet but I can assure you one of them is not ever purchasing another Maytag or subsidiary appliance.

Actually contacted Maytag this morning. They agreed to pay for the parts if I pay for the service call. Much better than what their certified repair man told me they would do.

I finally got this issue addressed. When I contacted customer service, they said my model was not covered, so they offered me some service plan which I declined. I instead chose to swap out the board under the display panel myself, was surprised to discover that didn't fix the problem so I scheduled a service visit. They were in & out in < 30 minutes having swapped out something in back of the fridge and Maytag covered it, despite what the customer service person told me. So all is working well now. Maytag needs to get their customer service story straight though.

David, I'm sorry you are having this problem. Yes, your model is on the list released by the source but it's not a recall list that indicates the board will be replaced at no charge. I'm listing a number you can call to talk with someone at the source 1-866-698-2538. I hope this will help you.

I have the exact same issue as of April 20, 2013. I called Maytag service and they said my fridge (MFI2568AES) was not on the list, although it is on your list Scott D. This seems to be a common issue for this fridge given the thread above. Thoughts on how I get Maytag to address this so I don't have to pay to replace the board myself ? Maybe the service department is not the right place to call as their focus seems to be on getting people to sign up for service agreements.

Zbigniew, the only way to stop the door from flapping would be to disconnect the motor. This would be difficult because the motor wires are connected in the harness. If you feel confident that you can safely remove one of the motor wires from the harness, I'm attaching information of how to access the dispenser. The motor wire is on the j4 connector pin 3 the bl/yl wire. Be sure to disconnect the power before removing the dispenser cover. I hope this will help you.

I have the same problem with a 2008 maytag MFI2568AES. I followed the suggestion of calling maytag and they were helpful. Maytag says that this is a known problem and they scheduled a factory repair service to come and fix it at no charge. That seems pretty good since after looking at the price of the low voltage board it is pricey. Looks like the board is $200 on the sears website. Plus, I can't say that the board is for sure the problem and doing the repair myself may be tough. Depends on how tricky the door and pieces come apart. I replaced a water tank w/h unit a few months ago and that wasn't so bad. Took an hour or two since it was my first time taking the interior panels apart.

Now the repair is scheduled but the fridge still makes lots of noise from the ice cube flap opening and closing around the clock. The flashing lights are not annoying but the flap is noisy and keeps us up at night.

Is there a way to deactivate that part of the fridge? Otherwise, we have to put up with the noise for the next few days.

Thx

Linda, I'm very sorry about the problem you're experiencing. I know it's frustrating. Now, this is not a problem with any Maytag that has an electronic control panel. I'm attaching a list of the affected models below. Please let me know if your model is on this list. To be able to assist you further, I will need to know the complete model and serial number of your refrigerator and I will be glad to assist you.

Mine started doing the exact same thing last night. I called Maytag today and she acted like she has never heard of the problem. My refrigerator is only a little over 2 years old. She said my particular model has not had this problem. I told her apparently this is a ongoing problem with any Maytag with the electronic panel. All she kept offering is for me to buy additional warranty for $360!!!! Unbelievable.... I was finally so disgusted I hung up. I will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance. There customer service I experienced today was the worst ever!!!!! Nothing like spending more for the Maytag name and having problems with a $2000 plus appliance in such a short period of time and they do absolutely NOTHING about it.

I had the exact same problem. When I called I was told it was not covered because my unit was 6 years old. I mention the recall I read about on this site and they said there were no recalls on my frig. When I pushed a little more they finally said they would cover it and set up a appointment. So if they tell you it's not cover hold your ground.

I also had the same problem. My model # is MFI2568AES purchased in 2007. I called Maytag 1-800-688-9900. They looked up my model number and serial number and found mine to be listed under the recall also. They also took care of scheduling for a service call. Great customenr service.

This is a known issue and to correct this problem, the control board will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, without a model number, I will not be able to give you any specific information. To get the correct board a complete model and serial number will be needed.

When an appliance doesn't work properly or gives out it can be very disappointing because you don't really know what is wrong with it or you might even have to buy a whole different appliance. A suggestion I have for you while you are waiting on your response from an expert. I found this great link on your appliances. I have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing while waiting on your response from an expert. Hope this helps, good luck

Ron,
I just had this problem start up last night. I called Maytag this morning and they told me that they would repair the problem. Parts and labor are covered, but I have to pay the diagnostic fee. I'm assuming the diagnostic fee is the fee of the local authorized company to service the repair which in my area they told me should cost $59.95. For a authorized repair I can live with that since it guarantees I would be getting a new board and likely another 1 year warranty. Note I did tell them I searched for the problem online, and that the problem matched my issue where there were 2 capacitors bulging. I also mention that I saw that this was under recall.

However I did have a backup plan in case they didn't follow through, take a look at this link I'm attaching and it tells how to repair it. It's basically replacing 2 capacitors that had blown.
