How to reset code of garage-door opener's keyless entry pad without knowing the current code

Previous homeowner left without giving us the current code to the keyless entry pad of our garage-door opener (model no.: 139.53664SRT2). Is there a way to reset the code without knowing the current code, or would I have to purchase a new keyless entry pad & cover and then install it per the instruction manual?

Getting those security system codes from a departing owner is something not normally considered. I found a similar question and attached the expert answer below as well as the owner's manual for your model garage door opener. Hope this helps!

I have the exact same model (139-53664SRT2). Changed the battery but the keypad still wouldn't work. After much googling :o) .....Here's what worked for mine:

Key in the 4 digit pin you want to use. Press and hold 'Enter' (do not release).
While holding 'Enter' press and hold the light button on the main console panel.
Holding 'Enter' and the 'Light' button simultaneously, also press and hold the main push bar (that opens and closes the door).
When the light blinks (or you hear clicks) release all three.

Mine worked after that! I had to have my 6 yr old hold the light and push bar while I did the keypad, but it was a snap.

Hope this helps... best of luck!

The answer Barbara H sent gives you the instructions for programming the keyless entry.

If you hold the learn button in until the led goes off, you will erase all codes from the memory of the logic board. This will prevent anyone from using the old code to open the door with the keyless entry.

I am sending an image showing the programming for the keyless entry. I am sending 2 images because I am not sure which keyless entry you have.

You can erase the previous codes and program new codes into the garage door opener. You should not need to buy a new keyless entry.
