Code F40 during cleaning cycle on Kenmore Model 790.9642 oven

Twice during the cleaning cycle on a Kenmore Model 790.9642 oven I got a code F40. I cleared the code each time and the cycle compleated as programed with no further problems. What was the code F40 telling me and should I have further concerns ?

Thank you for your question.

Having an error code coming up on the control panel can be a concern, and then having to clear it to complete the clean cycle.

The F40 code is related one of three possibilities.

The first could be a bad wire connection in the wire harness.

The second could the cook-top lockout control board. This board locks out the cook-top from working when you have the self-clean cycle selected.

The last one could the Electronic Oven Control. If that is the problem it would have to be replaced.

Due to the complexity of this system I would suggest that you have a service technician complete the diagnosis for this error code.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:

Having an error code can keep your range from working properly and I know how great a home cooked meal can be. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that will provide you with more information about your problem. I hope my link is useful.
