MTD Brand Snow Blower - the starter cord won't pull out. How can this be fixed?

Purchased an MTD snow blower, single stage model 2M1. It started up initially, but the engine died. When we tried to start it again, the pull cord seemed to be jammed - it would not pull out farther than about 4 or 5 inches. It looks like it might have a bad wrap on the pulley or something else is in a bind. Can this be fixed, or does it need to be returned for service?

Having a Snow blower that is not working can be quite a frustration. While you are waiting for an expert to reply I recommend to reply back to this thread with a detailed model number to your Snow blower. Which this will allow you to receive a detailed answer from an expert.

If the snow thrower is new, I recommend you get it serviced under warranty.

Your thought about a bad wrap is very possible. If you remove the starter from the engine, you can probably straighten the starter rope and it will be ok.

It is also possible that something broke or came loose inside the starter and parts need to be replaced.

If you have more questions, reply on this thread and send the model number off the snow thrower. We will be glad to help.
