Bobbin winding for Kenmore Model 148.861

I cannot get my Kenmore model 148.861 sewing machine to wind a bobbin. I have followed all the directions and have been sewing on this machine since I was a child. Any suggestions??

That is great news Charlotte. I am all for cheaper. Would you share what site you found that on?

It is very difficult to find electronic versions of some manuals and I would appreciate having another resource to go to besides SEWUSA.

Thank you.

Hi! Thanks for all your help! Since I would have to pay $16.25 to get a hard copy manual shipped from sewusa, I did some price comparisons and found the manual on CD on EBay for $8.90 with free shipping! I can print the entire manual, or just one page from the CD. Again, thanks for everyone's help!

Hello Charlotte! I am sorry but Sears no longer has this manual available. I would suggest getting the manual from a web-site called SEWUSA.com

I will give you a link to this site but they charge for the manual.

Check the link below.

Charlotte, I downloaded the manual to this website via Sam the expert. I don't know how this site all works, you can email him at the email address listed above in his response and he should be able to help you get it. I am not sure that the manual to my machine is the same for your machine, you may want to double check it first! Hope you get it all sorted out.

Heidi, I still can't find the manual. Do you still have it? I've tried to find the download by searching through the manuals, but I don't see it. I would love a copy if it's still available.
Thanks!

Thank you Heidi; for the update on the adjustment screw for the bobbin winder on your sewing machine.
There have been some many different styles through the years its had to remember them all.

I am glad that you were able to figure it out and get it working again.

Thank you again for the call out on the adjustment screw and happy sewing.

I know it has been a while, but after I replaced the bobbin tire on my machine and still had no success, I decided to just tinker a bit on it. I discovered that there is a small screw that adjusts the tension on the bobbin tire to push it against the hand wheel. All I had to do was tighten that screw up a little bit, and it works like new now! I thought this might come in handy for someone else with a similar question!

Hi! I am trying to find the manual for my Kenmore Stylist 86 (model number 148 861) but when I use the link above, I still can't find it! I've tried searching with 148861 and also Stylist 86, with no luck. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Would love to be able to download the manual. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Thank you for the update Heidi. You can e-mail me the manual and I will have it put on the MML web site. Thank you so much, and let me know what happened with the bobbin winder.

Happy sewing. Sam A.

Thank you very much, Sam! I will definately check that out ASAP! I have the original owners manual and accessories booklet that I will share with you if don't have one already and are interested...I would even post it on this site, but I'm not sure how to do it... I am scanning it to a memory stick now though...Thanks again, Heidi

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wondering why the bobbin winder will not work.

Thank you for the picture of the machine.

It sounds like the rubber drive tire may be either worn out or broken and will need to be replaced.

If you will remove the screws that hold the top cover on you can examine the drive tire to see if it needs to be replaced.

If that is the problem you may have to go to a local sewing machine repair shop to get the tire because of the age of the machine. 1958-1959.

If you need more help please use the thread link to ask for more information.

Thank you Joseph, I tried the link, but the machine is so old, there isn't anything there. I do have the original owner's manual and it doesn't do any troubleshooting on bobbins, but I will definately keep that link for other appliances I have! Thanks again! Oh, BTW, thankfully, I have another newer Kenmore sewing machine that doesn't sew very well, but will wind the bobbins for me. Otherwise the old machine sews beautifully!

I understand your concern toward wanting to make sure your sewing machine is working properly so that you can make some nice pieces of clothing and I will be happy to help. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link in where you can enter your model number and your owners manual will pop in where you can find some great troubleshooting tips. I hope my link is useful.
