I have a Kitchenaid trash compactor KUCS02FRSS1. Sears Parts Direct sent me a new Compactor Motor 9870343 and Switch 777971, but wiring is for switch 780164.

The installation instructions for Compactor Switch Kit #780164 do not match the connections for the actual switch 777971. They're not even close. Here are the connections that came with the motor and switch. The "wire harness leads" from the compactor will match up to color on the"Motor Leads" on the switch. When I hooked them up this way on the first motor the compactor worked correctly for a few minutes and quit. This is the second motor. Did I wire it up correctly to a defective motor, if not I need correct wiring instructions.

According to your details, you received the replacement motor kit with switch 777971 instead of 780164. I provided the tech sheet for this compactor in the first two images below. I reviewed the instruction sheet that you should have received with the motor kit. That instruction sheet does indicate that the kit should have switch 780164 in the kit. I cannot determine whether you have the switch wired correctly from the diagram that you sent. Since the kit has the original switch, you may be able to use the wiring diagram in the first image below to wire the switch. The third image shows a page from the instruction sheet for the kit. That should be the diagram that you use to wire the kit. You may also be able to use the diagram at the top of that image.

If you are not able to wire the switch 777971 using this information, then you may be able to resolve this issue by ordering the switch 780164 separately. That part is available as a separate component.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details. Send us a digital picture of the switch if possible.

This can be a difficult repair to complete. There are times when it is necessary to have a service technician physically examine the compactor to install a revised component. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it:
