How to remove fabric softener dispenser

I have a Kenmore 110.15962401 washing machine. According to the instruction manual there are two different types of fabric softener dispenser, those with a blue locking ring and those without it. Mine does NOT have a blue locking ring. So, according to their directions for this type to remove the fabric softener dispenser you hold the top agitator section with one hand and with the other hand rotate the dispenser clockwise until it stops (approx 1 inch). Then just lift the dispenser straight up. My problem is that my dispenser just keeps spinning and spinning and never stops. (And yes, I am holding the agitator in place with the other hand.) And when I try to lift up it feels like it's still locked in place by something. Any ideas?

A washer will sometimes make you feel confused, they can be difficult to understand. Below I have attached a link to your diagram from the Sears Parts Direct website. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with removing the dispenser. I have looked up the model number you have submitted. On this model, the dispenser just pulls out of the agitator. If you do not have enough strength, you can use a screwdriver to pry between the dispenser and the top of the agitator. I am sorry for the misprint in the manual.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the washer.
