i have a craftsman lawn tractor #917256531, transmssion fluid leaked out thru a hole, hole has been patched with j-b weld. how do i put more fluid back in.

because it is a sealed unit I have been told I have to replace the entire transmission. the cost of transmission is just about the cost of new tractor. my question is, now, that the hole has been sealed. could I drill a hole some place on the transmission houseing and pour oil thru the hole and then tap the hole and install a plug. This seems like it might work, and if it could work, what type and how much of the fluid.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. If you did not accidently cause the hole in the case I suspect there is something broken inside that caused the problem. If it is sealed you can refill it and test the operation. I have posted the information below on how to add oil to the transaxle.
